Every time we drive by this place, it is so packed. We tried coming a couple times but we were too late. So we finally got a chance to stop in today and it again, was packed. The menu is mainly all carnitas but averagely priced. I ordered tacos dorados sencillos and my man ordered lonche especial, which was a taco with bean and a taco with potato for me, and a pulled pork and ham sandwhich for him. I had some confusion about the bean and potato tacos, so I brought my food back and the lady who helped me(which I think was the owner) was more than happy to solve my problem with multiple resolutions, so I just got a side of beans free of charge! The food was okay, but the service makes it that much better. Thankyou so much for great food and great service!

Great tortas! The pork is on point, especially with the onions and vinegar. But beware the hot sauce it’s pretty spicy once you had a couple of spoons.

If you want to a place that will take you to Guadalajara without leaving the bay you have to go to Tortas GDL. The Tortas ahogadas are the best! This trip I had the menudo which was also really good served with hand made tortillas. My daughter had the tacos she loved it especially since they prepare and serve it as you would at home with a side of queso fresco. What I loved even more was the atmosphere. Super friendly staff that again took me back to GDL. You gotta go and try!

These pregnancy cravings are taking me to the extreme, lol(I don’t crave things often, but when I do… I do!). I was craving a torta ahogada, last time I had to drive all the way to Oakland just to get the real deal.(Well, more like my husband drove his pregnant wife.) This time I thought I would try this location. After all they say tortas ahogadas is their speciality. The tortas are pretty good. They are very generous with their meats. The sauces are pretty good. They are tasty and flavorful. They do kind of lack on the amount of sauce they give you, I had to ask for more. Oh and they only give you one piece of lime… I am more of 3 pieces of lime. The bread just like someone else said isn’t the«soaky» kind of bread, it takes a while for the bread to easily tare. I read in someone else’s review that the bread is flown in from Guadalajara which means its probably a day old. Regardless the tortas are pretty good, especially for the craving moments. I also tried the lonche de pierna, now that was on point. Plenty of everything and lots of flavor. And yes, I also tried the good old tacos dorados. Very good, I just went for basic potato. They serve them to you just like they are shown in the pictures below. The last thing I had was an agua de horchata con fresa, amazing! Some challenges: parking. Parking is super limited. The restaurant is located in a small shopping center. The location itself is a little crowded, not much seating available. I recommend going before or after the lunch crowd, and only on weekends. Service is hit and miss, some staff is really nice. Other staff is not friendly. All in all, worth a try if you are in the mood for a torta ahogada.

Finally found a place with good Tortas Ahogadas, food is really good, I’d recommend also the Jericalla with Rompope and the agua de Horchata. Be careful with the sauce because it’s really really hot! I couldn’t try the michelada but next time definitely I will!

This is how a true delicious Torta Ahogadas should taste like. Original salty bread«Birote» imported straight from Guadalajara! Is just a pleasure to the palate!!!

I was told about this place that sounded too good to be true so I had to stop and check it out for myself. Their selling point is that they fly in the«birote» aka bread directly from Guadalajara. Those were magical words to my stomach but honestly, this restaurant was a big flop to my taste buds. I’m from Guadalajara and make occasional trips on a yearly basis back to the motherland and know EXACTLY what a delicious Tortas Ahogadas taste like. 1) Even though this place claims to fly the bread directly from GDL, it honestly doesn’t have the same consistency that it would normally have. The bread was stale and didn’t absorb much of the salsa. There is a reason why they call this a Torta Ahogada, so that the bread can absorb the tomato sauce. This was an epic fail. After many attempts at getting my bread«drowned», it failed to do so. I even asked the worker to bring me extra sauce and that didn’t even help. 2) Speaking of sauces, they had NO flavor. With a traditional tortas ahogada, there are two sauces: the first one is the tomato sauce. This is not intended to be spicy, but it should be flavorful and sets the tone for the meal. The most important one is the spicy sauce. Both sauces were lacking flavor. The first one tasted as if it was just water and tomato and the second one lacked spiciness. People are supposed to fear the second sauce and it was anything but intimidating. 3) The meat that was served in my torta was filled with fat. I think I must have thrown more fatty meat to the side than what I actually ate. The meat also lacked some seasoning. I never add salt to my dishes but this time, I found myself sprinkling some salt, wishes for some flavor to magically appear. I could also comment on the fact that the onions cooked in lime juice weren’t up to par, but let me not get that picky. The venue was rather small but serves its purpose. The staff is friendly and I like the whole«Loteria» system when receiving your meal ticket. As my boyfriend would saying: «Don’t expect the real deal, but this is as close as you’ll get around the area». Consumers you have been warned.

Ok, let me start off by saying I go to Guadalajara on a regular basis, I’m from there, so that being said I’m extremly familiar of what a Torta should, look, taste and hold together like. For this torta the first thing I notice is that the bread does not hold the salsa real well and it falls apart. Second, the carnitas are good but not amazing. Third and most important part was the salsa, it was lacking in flavour it was missing the most important condiment, MEJORANA. Anyways they do the Job specially for people who don’t go often or can’t go to get the real deal. I will continue to visit this place from time to time, hoping the salsa gets better.

We arrived on a Sunday after 1pm and every single table was taken, although a couple of seats opened at the bar a few minutes after. It took some 5 to 10 minutes to order. We sat with a number and waited for our food. They offered to bring our drinks twice(soda) but forgot about it; we asked if we could grab them ourselves and they said ‘Fine!’ So don’t feel shy and ask for what you need. The ambiance is very casual; the tables are pretty close since the place is small. The servers are friendly and treat everyone familiarly. They play ranchera music(traditional Mexican) and Mexican TV on the screen. My husband had the speciality of the house: torta ahogada, and I had the deep fried tacos with carnitas. Both are a delicious mess. The salsa that covers both dishes is very thin, almost like a broth, not too spicy but very tasty. The taquitos were very crunchy(the fillings a bit on the thin side) but the carnitas on top were generous. They were garnished with very fresh lettuce and tomatoes. I really enjoyed the food; unfortunately I haven’t been to Guadalajara so I do not know if they are completely authentic or not, however I thought everything was very tasty and I definitely will come back.

I am happy this place replaced the Korner Café as the last owner did not do the place justice, but decided to try this place out since I saw the banner replace the Korner café, but old memories are still there at the place like the order here sign and the green sign as well. For $ 7.99 for a torta that size was a little too much than what I am used too as I am used to paying $ 5.00, but I thought about quality and decided to give it a shot. Anyways I had it to go so they packed the sauce in zip lock bags and gave me a lot. The meat was okay, but the bread was hard as a rock :(The owner is really nice and are the workers. The Torta ahogadas was just okay, but I rather go somewhere else.

I am originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and loved going back to eat the delicious food. Now I don’t have to travel so far! This place is very authentic and delicious. I ordered the torta hogada and agua fresca de Jamaica. Both tasted awesome! The only downside is that they are only open weekends right now and plan to be open all week long, hopefully in one more month.
