Great place to go on a hot day after getting off the train. Baked goods are yummy, they also have soft serve frozen yogurt, ice cream, and iced mochas. Very nice staff working there that can give you lots of local tips on what to do once in Capistrano. Prices are also very reasonable. Love this place

Conveniently located outside of the metrolink station, we popped in for some goodies while we waited for our train. Tiramisu was decent, light but not very rich in flavor, the crème brûlée was awful, it’s pre-crystalized so there’s no crunch to it at the top and the inside texture is more like cream cheese. Asked for a half caf iced coffee and wasn’t able to get one. Female cashier wasn’t very friendly either, not someone I’d put in that position with so much traffic going in and out. Will definitely go elsewhere for dessert next time we’re in the area.

I went here because I had a 2⁄1 pastry coupon in my Entertainment book. I was a bit disappointed that all that they had here were sweets. I would have liked to have seen more breakfast items. The apple doughnut was on the dry side. The mango custard was really sweet! Service was friendly & baked goods were fairly priced. It’s in a great location of downtown San Juan Capistrano. Good people watching!

I ordered a fruit tart and small cake today. Both tasted old. The pastries did not look fresh, but my daughter wanted to try it anyway. The worst part is that they are not honest. They over charged me and did not give me a receipt. So, I had to ask for the receipt. When I told the lady that the price in the window does not reflect the receipt, she quickly gave me back 50 cents. I asked how she figured that, and she didn’t answer. I had to pull out my phone calculator and show her how much I was due back. Seriously? I noticed another reviewer had the same issue.

Came here with my boyfriend to get some pastries and gelato. The blonde old lady working behind the register was rude and rushing us when we were still deciding what we wanted. Complete turn off. She forced a smile as soon as it was time to pay in hopes that she’d probably get a tip. lol nope.

I had never been to SJC and came across this bakery. Upon recommendation from the server, I tried the Walnut Square. OMG. Delicious! Thank you so much. I will be back.

The coffee was disgusting. The canoli was dry and flavorless. Mexican wedding cookies left a greasy film in your mouth. We took home an apple crumb cake and were disappointed. Poor choice of ice cream flavors, but the kids said it was good. The word on the street is the pastries are shipped in. Won’t be back.

This is a lovely little dessert shop right near the railroad tracks in San Juan. They have gelato and froyo and other baked goods. I went with a friend and we got gelato, which was very flavorful. It is a little more expensive than I was expecting, but not too much. I recommend grabbing a dessert and going across the track to walk along the restaurants and shops while you enjoy your treat.

I was still in the area after the wine tasting. I always have a sweet tooth. I stopped in to see what would catch my eye. Everything looked yummy. I bought a cookie. It was quite soft and tasty. If i ever come back to this area I would definitely stop by for some coffee and cookies. It was clean and their was a nice area with tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the goodies at …

3:16 Bakery is nestled in the heart of San Juan Capistrano, next to the movie theater, free parking garage and train station. Environment is very clean, warm, and inviting. This bakery is the perfect place to visit before or after touring San Juan Capistrano, catching a movie in newly renovated movie theater. My husband and I enjoyed the Walnut Square which was moist, fresh and delicious. One Walnut Square is definitely sufficient for two. My sweet tooth will definitely return…

Kids smile for the family pictures and you’ll get ice cream! Great place to reward the kids after family pictures in the Capistrano Depot. Delicious gelato! Awesome coffee for tired parents! Clean, friendly service. Absolutely coming back.

In a pinch, this bakery with ice cream and gelato is fine. The gelato is brightly colored though, and that usually means it comes from a mix. The peanut butter Kiss cookies are good.

My son ordered a custom made cake for his wife’s Brooke’s birthday. It was exactly what my son Philip and the bakery’s owner Mauricio had discussed. White cake with chocolate and bananas soufflé filling. delicious almost like the cake, frosting and center meshed into one then disappeared into your taste buds! Everyone at the party raved about the cake. Seriously, one of the best tasting and looking cakes we’ve eve had, not to mention the great price for such a cake! Thank you #3:16bakery you made a great impression on our entire party guests! We will make sure to order from you again!

This place is a Christian establishment and named after the famous Bible verse– John 3:16. There is a wide selection of cookies, gelato, and other desserts. I only tried the gelato, which was amazing! It was empty on the weekday that I went in, and the parking in this area isn’t the best. However, I will definitely be going back for some more treats!

I went there for my Dad’s 75th birthday cake. Football shaped with tiramisu filling, chocolate cake and chocolate ganache icing. To die for! Also, for my niece’s birthday cake… a ballerina design. Pineapple filing, vanilla cake and whipped cream frosting. Very pretty, and really delicious too! Also, a seamless and friendly experience while making decisions and ordering.

This wonderful bakery located in the center/historical area of San Juan Cap. is lovely. Not only are the pastries delicious. The gelato taste pretty darn good. There’s a beautiful park walking distance from 3:16 bakery. That’s were my baby shower was held & of course I got all my deserts from 3:16. Which were so cute & a hit with all my friends & family. I would recommend anybody to come here for a coffee date, & watch a movie right next door. Or like me order pastries for your party or baby shower. Thank you 3:16

Gelato, pastries, ice cream, coffee, this is a great place to have a snack or a coffee whilst wandering around SJC. Staff is friendly and helpful and the place is super clean. I enjoy the chocolate gelato the best.

Driving home from Orange County the hubs, kids and I decided to stop and grab a quick treat. What we had: *Gelato(Strawberry, Vanilla and Dark Chocolate) — no complaints from hubby or the kids *Chocolate dipped(raspberry) french macaron– I didn’t care for this dessert. Macaron did not have the traditional filling and the texture was a bit chewy *Mini Fruit tart — nothing memorable, tasted like something I’d find at a Chinese buffet * Ham and cheese croissant — kids gobbled it up! *Caramel macchiato with almond milk– MYFAVORITETHINGTHERE! Cons: * When I ordered the ham and cheese croissant the girl tried to charge me $ 5.80, when the sign clearly showed that it was $ 3.50. I was irked by this because I had just finished discussing how the ham and cheese was made with her. Not cool. Pros: * The COFFEE! For this reason alone I would stop in. The coffee was so good it would make Lorelai question her loyalty to Luke’s coffee!!! Yup, that good. * This spot has frozen yogurt(although the machines were out of order today), gelato, cakes, cookies, pies and all kinds of baked goodies. * Aside from trying to charge me $ 2 more than the marked price for my croissant, the 2 girls seem to be fairly nice(?) and energetic.

Such a cute little pastry and ice cream shop. From what I could see today, most of the guests were getting ice cream or frozen yogurt. Mike got a cup of frozen yogurt with chocolate M&Ms. I got a cup of spumoni and dark chocolate ice cream. Really good flavors(I’m a sucker for Italian spumoni), generous portion. However, next time I would not get the ice cream in the plastic dish. It smelled funny, like chemicals. They have sugar cone dishes and I should have gotten that. The ice cream selection is not huge, about 10 flavors, but each of them looked really good. $ 5 for two scoops is not hugely expensive, and it was very tasty. We sat outside at the little tables right on the street, and enjoyed the peace and good air of this area, and people watched for awhile. A nice stop.

This is the newest incarnation of the shop next to the Regency Theater in San Juan Capistrano. They don’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook page and from a scan of the posts I am going to guess 3:16 is a biblical reference to the New Testament Gospel of John Chapter 3, Verse 16: «For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.» Not sure what this has to do with baking, but there could be worse names. Proving my point, I have linked the following: Rohlinism: The name of a business can attract people like flies to honey or drive them away in droves! I have visited this bakery twice very recently and found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. They allowed my wife to try a whole cookie as a sample and just today brought my wife and I out cold water while we were enjoying our purchase. The one disappointing purchase was a blueberry muffin top. The muffin top was moist and the muffin was good, but there was literally five blueberries on the top and not one inside the muffin. To quote Sam Rothstein: «From now on, I want you to put an equal amount of blueberries in each muffin.» Definitely two of our favorites have been the Angel Cookies with Chocolate Chips for my better half and the Peanut Butter Hershey’s Kisses for me( ). The Angels were a little too sweet for me, but my wife loves them and the Kisses are one of my favorite cookies. I also had a chance to sample some of the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Gelato and it was decent. I am not sure if they rotate flavors, but this was the list of available flavors on my visit: Raspberry Mango Lemon Vanilla Bean Dark Chocolate Cookies and Cream Chocolate Covered Strawberry Mint Chip Pistachio Strawberry Fresca Coopa Mista Crème Brulee ( ) They have a good selection of baked cookies( ), cakes( ) and other items( ). There is a self serve yogurt machine with a good selection of topping to add on. They have a couple of tables outside on the sidewalk with nice little plants on each table which Laina really liked. The cast iron chairs are surprising comfortable and tables are sturdy. So the question that comes to mind: Why only 3 stars? The bakery to the best of my knowledge makes nothing in house. If you are not baking, you aren’t really a bakery. It appears they receive shipments everyday, but getting the stuff second hand moving me to my next point: price. The cookies are $ 10.95 per pound which is pretty steep. The other baked item have the prices on their tags. I assume the self serve yogurt is by the pound as well, but I am not sure about the price. One suggestion for the ownership: Lose the yogurt machine or gelato. It doesn’t make sense to serve both and I doubt the gelato and yogurt sell at the same rate. I haven’t seen anyone with yogurt yet, but I have seen people eat the gelato. By eliminating one or the other, it cuts down your overhead and you could pass the savings on to your customers. Since the wife and I like to walk Kaya around here on the weekends(she loves the alpacas at ZOOMARS), we will probably be returning in the future.
