While I’ve not personally ordered from El Campeon, a friend has hosted several dinners and served El Campeon. I love the authentic flavors of their food and their pick-up meals are a great way to feed a crowd.

Place is always busy but you don’t have to wait too long. Amazing authentic food and you will know why once you start eating. Order your food and hold on to your ticket #. Best to find a place to sit down now if you are with ppl. As there are only bar stools inside with seating outside. Space is limited. Wait for your order # to be called and then pay.

For a Mexican to approve of a «Mexican Restaurant,» must mean that it is delicious. This is as authentic as it gets. Taste just like moms home cooked meals. From the Tortas(Mexican sandwich) to the meat filled tacos, to the combination plates… It all taste amazing. Probably one of my favorite food places. Trust a Mexican when they say a Mexican restaurant is good. Lol Ps. Try their ‘Aguas Frescas’(fresh waters)

Spanish, English, family, quality, and money friendly. Dont like Mexican food? Idk why you would come here if you didnt, but under the same roof they sell cupcakes, fruit, bread, and tiramasu cups, so this this place really is for everybody. Free Wifi too! This place gets BUSY af though. Everybody who has a brain knows that this is the place where you get authentic tacos. Don’t be intimidated by all the spanish speaking people, employees understand english and there are English translations on the menu, no need to break out your terrible high school Spanish haha. There is also a thrift shop a few walking steps from here so if you want tacos and pretty but cheap clothes come over here!

When my kids can sit through a meal that they enjoy is worth the wait. They explored the Aguas frescas and had Agua de Platano and Agua de Sandia.

After a long road trip to La Jolla and a few days in the OC, we needed to charge our Tesla. The nearest super station is in the same strip mall as El Campeon. This is a very authentic Mexican place considering everyone that ate here(bedside one other Asian man charging his Tesla) was Mexican. It was not the warm, caring atmosphere that I am used to at Mexican restaurants in South Bay. It was order your food, pay, bye. The food was very tasty. I ordered the egg taco. It did not seem to be on the menu. I pointed to the platter of eggs and asked for a taco. My hubby ordered the chicken and the chorizo tacos. I topped my taco high with pico and salsa. It was very tasty. The tortillas were delicious and so soft. My hubby favored his chorizo and egg taco. He said it was very flavorful. The bodes well since I found the chicken taco he had to be tasty. My son had a small fruit bowl for $ 3.75. The papaya, pineapple and watermelon were delicious. The mangos were super hard and inedible. We will eat here again while using the Supercharger after a weekend in San Diego.

My tongue was on fire and I needed to kill time before I got on the freeway, so buy food it is ! After a great dinner at Kawamata seafood, I decided this detour isn’t complete without dessert! It seems like San Clemente doesn’t have copious amounts of dessert(ice cream, shaved snow, Che, donuts) like westminster and Costa Mesa have, but this place popped up and since my tongue was dying, an horchata sounded great. I like my horchatas on the thicker side with a not super cinnamony taste. This tasted better than ones you get at Alertos, but it didn’t make me want to share this with everyone. It did help with my tongue though. Drinks you can just order at the paying line! So I wasn’t sure what bread to get so I asked someone for help. I dislike the crunchy hard ones but I love soft breads. I got something that looks like a biscuit; this one is nice because it’s a subtle sweetness and not overwhelming. It made my mouth kind of dry but it wasn’t dry itself! I like ! I also got the custard cone. This one is different from that other bakery in San Bernardino since the cone was crispy and flakey. It wasn’t hard but it had a bit of a bready element. Not too sweet for custard but I would definitely finish this. I’m not sure why I got this large bread piece with a slab of butter? Margarine? And coated in sugar. I ripped off the bread and found it to be tender but it made my heart kind of hurt looking at it. The rice pudding I got was thick, I think there’s hella eggs in it. There’s some raisins too, that healthy. Right? As I kept eating it though, it got a bit much for me. This would be better if the sugar were lessened but it was only $ 1.95!!! Total for everything was under $ 6. They accept card too, but there’s a .25 fee. Would come back if I’m in the area and craving

Spent the night in the area and random grab some tacos here and it was amazing. Just got the basic asada and chicken tacos, it was kinda price per taco but definitely worth it.

The place to be for carnitas, aqua de platano, tortas, and pan dulce. We took a day trip today from LA County to visit the Mission. Saw good reviews and were not disappointed. Tortas have a nice guacamole spread and a slice of panela. The tacos are LOADED with meat. The stews, like pozole and menudo, looked good in the display, but did not try them. Dedinitel worth a visit. Thw check-out is a bit convoluted, but managable.

The fancy Mexican restaurant around the corner had a 25-minute wait, so we decided to try this one. Anything but fancy, but, what is that saying…“Fancy is as fancy does-not-necessarily-mean-authentic-and-delicious” like this place! Long line. Had trouble keeping the bar stations clean(since it was so busy.) BUT the food was authentic and delicious! Staff was very friendly — I was watching one of the kitchen crew break down a pig — she noticed me watching and flashed me the biggest smile! They all speak Spanish and English, and are helpful with translating the menu, which isn’t clear about how each beef or pork dish differs from the other. No bottled water there, but available in the grocery next door. For some reason, you can’t pay until you get your food — different, but okay. Confusing, because they call the numbers out of order, but service was quick, even with a long line. My husband had a Torta, which he really liked — some kind of pork. I had Tacos la Lengua(get ready — «tongue tacos»). The meat was perfectly cooked — juicy and plentiful — but not seasoned. We also ordered rolled tacos — very good. And the frijoles were amazing — even exceptional! Beware — the hot sauces are true to their name — HOT! But used sparingly, the flavor is on point. Almost every kind of beef and pork use you can imagine, and they even have goat. Can’t wait to go back and try other things on the menu which are not readily available even in San Diego! This«dive» is a «find»!

Gran selección de alimentos en el mercado con fruta fresca y hortalizas. También hay una panadería y refrescaria con productos frescos. Sus tacos Barbacoa en el restaurante son los mejores de la ciudad. Es muy beuno!

The watermelon juice is one of the best! Must order! This place gets busy during the lunch rush, so it’s a good idea to get there before 11:30 to avoid waiting in line. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and tried the al pastor and carne asade taco. They are so generous with the meat portions, and eating one taco was so filling. I can’t wait to come back to try more.

It’s been a busy minute since I’ve visited El Campeon’s awesomeness in downtown San Juan! There’s a lotta everything here a ton of different Mexican specialty food goodness as well as a bakery with a market! The food here has always been pretty good and flavorful like the asada burrito I had was filled with a ton of meat beans and other scrumptiousness that was next to a bed of every rabbit’s favorite food lettuce that was super veggie goodness status once I threw a bunch of salsa on it! The Torta’s here are super bomb and piled away with whatever meat you want to concur and a bunch of yummy veggies that just totally hit that hungry spot so definitely seek one of those out as they are always good! In the middle of the square line type of thing you will discover a pile of different salsas some green red and the Pico of goodness that go well within just about everything you can imagine and then some! Something icky about the line is like they wouldn’t let us pay for a drink together or what not and we had to go to someone else because there is different line for everything. Either way it was all good once the magical deliciousness known as banana drink(agua de banana) was soon in Dia’s hot little hands on this super humidity strange October night! There is an abundance of drinks here of various different flavors and colors just pick a color and try to guess it’s flavor because you know it’s going to be good anyway! After eating our food at the counter wile listening to the occasional sounding drum beats of meat being chopped in the background we made our way outside and down to the market where I discovered pretty much anything I would need for home and some of those crazy white soda boxes from the future! I’m sure it won’t be long before a trip back here as it’s got some tasty food and other useful things for all to enjoy! As this is an awesome local place that’s for the people so pay a visit and I’m sure that you won’t leave hungry as there’s a ton of options here!

Ordered a Carnitas burrito I think I paid seven something with tax. Huge burrito seems like quality ingredients. I maybe would return. It is a buffet style you tell him what you want they put it together right in front of you. Unlike a lot of places the burrito was mostly meat. And I don’t think I found one piece of fat. Very tasty update: bloated from to much salt

Ended up here by accident on a Saturday day trip to San Juan Mission. Awesome food. Very authentic. Had two carnitas tacos and a torta de milenesa. All was delicious. Would definitely come back again.

My dream frijoles. It doesn’t get more authentic than this. So, you can probably find similar food at another taqueria, but I’m absolutely sure you won’t get the same cultural experience. The food is behind a glass counter where you order. Everyone spoke English, so no problem ordering and paying for your food. There are tables outside. You pay separately for meals and the bakery. They take credit cards. Fruit juices served from jugs were refreshing. We had the mango, watermelon(sandia), and Horchata(rice drink). If I lived here, I’d be a regular.

Been here before, however, back before my Unilocaling days. Enjoyed my food back then. Enjoyed my food this past Friday. I was in the area for a friend’s wedding and the couple I carpooled down with, asked me if I knew of a Mexican hole in the wall restaurant near the Mission. Told them I knew exactly where it was and we ended up exactly where they had hoped to go. Parking looks like it can be an issue as this restaurant is located on a fairly busy corner. Walk in, place your order and wait until you’re called. Still not sure if it’s cash only because there are no signs stating that fact, and there’s an ATM machine right at the door. It’s not table service, when your number is called, go up, pay, grab any condiments, sit down and enjoy. Everything looked to be freshly made as you can see the cooks over the stoves and the counter, line selections being refreshed pretty regularly. I understand but don’t speak Spanish but not to worry — menu is in English. As for the food — I wish I took a before and after picture because my Carne Asada Burrito and accompany salad, was devoured and the plate licked clean. It looked like they served me an empty plate. Needless to say again, but I will — it was delicious and I enjoyed it.
