Service was awful, food was good.

Food was to be expected. Atmosphere is pleasant with the location being in the second floor. I ordered the Gorgonzola burger and was very disappointed, the burger was medium and the bacon was fatty. The sauce was too overpowering for me as well. I wouldn’t recommend you order that. I did advise the staff and without hesitation he took $ 8 off the bill since I had eaten a few bites. I felt that was fair. 2adults 1 child with 2 drinks bill was $ 30 after discount

My favorite rubys of all time. Staff is great. Everyone always happy and friendly. It’s beautifully set up with an outdoor patio and a full bar but also has the traditional look inside. Their banana split is the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Their hamburgers are so fresh and good. Love love love.

close to the mission, and nothing decent to eat around here, except rinky-​dink unknown shack-​type café’s (no knock on them just not for me) and a Chicago pizza place named selmas underneath. So came here by default.
The burgers are ok. Nothing mind-​blowing, but decent.
The homemade chili was good, needs diced onions on it though.
Quite an extensive menu; I had a Mediterranean salad with shrimp, the shrimp is garbage but salad tasted good, albeita few wilted soggy parts.
The calamari is a joke; taste is ok but over half the basket is filled with shredded red cabbage! The joke’s on me sucka!
Passable food what else can I say, no more no less. Whatever.

We ate here today to celebrate my granddaughters 4^th Birthday after a visit at zoomars. There was 5 families in attendance for a total of 21 adults and kids altogether. Yasmin was our waitress, she did an excellent job attending us. My wife and I each ordered the hickory burger. The burger was very good, one of the best I’ve had. No one at our table complained about the food or service. We moved our reservation to an hour earlier than we had originally requested with no problem. Very good service and food over all. Thank You «Yasmin» for the nice service you provided. I would definitely recommend.

Just a solid burger and a shake. Better than I recalled. Cute train inside for the littles to watch one the ceiling. Have a nice view on the patio of the mission. Great service too. Domingo did an excellent job.

Great place, especially for people with kids! I visited with my sister and 3-​year old nephew. We ate in the outside patio because the little one likes to run around. We sat in a corner booth, so he wouldn’t bug other customers and it was very spacious. They also had a balloon animal guy, which helped us capture some great pictures of my nephew as he impatiently waited for his balloon monkey to be finished :)
Service was very friendly and efficient! The food we ordered was perfection! I ordered the Ahi burger and it was so delicious– fresh, with a little spicy kick :) We also ordered onion rings, which were just amazing! I have a hard time finding decent onion rings in LA, so this was exciting for me!
The day was really nice, so it was perfect sitting outside. We even heard some of the set from the live band playing at the Swallows Inn Saloon across the way.
So, great job Ruby’s! We will definitely be back next time we visit!

The 2016 Unilocal 500, Review #017:
Ruby’s is Ruby’s. If you have been to one and love it, like me, then you love them all. I enjoy their turkey burger.. although not as good as Dave and Buster’s, Ruby Tuesday’s or BJ’s Restaurants, it is good enough that I go out of my way to plan flight layovers in airports that have these restaurants in them.
Here in San Juan Capistrano the server was Crisanto L. This guy represented Ruby’s well. His appearance was neat and he was very respectable to my party. The model employee. Next time I pass thru the area, I wouldn’t think twice about eating here thanks to the service I received. Thanks Crisanto!

We have visited this location a couple times and have always had good food and service. What makes this location unique is that they have a outdoor bar area and an additional menu where you can get items such as chicken empanadas or tortilla soup. If you sit indoors you can still order from the bar and there’s an overhead train that rotates o. It’s track around the restaurant. The train keeps the kids entertained until their food arrives.

Place is set nice and high above the main drag in San Juan Capistrano.
Unfortunately that’s the best part about Rubys. Burger was falling apart, never asked us how we wanted them cooked and they were over cooked.

Nice atmosphere, one block frm mission and a western menu along with regular menu. The cheddar cheese burger is great!
Service was fast and friendly. Some servers can be pushy and make you feel rushed to eat and leave. Service here was just the right amount of attentiveness, efficiency and politely asking about dessert. I will definitely come back to this Rubys. Yasmin was awesome!

but the worst food. The worst burger I have ever had. My wife just made one at home (on the frying pan) and we both agree it is so far above the crap served here. Stale burger buns and a sorry excuse for fries.

We love coming to this Ruby’s location, it’s a great location and the service is great! We never have any issues coming here with the food and service. They have a great bar on the outside patio and a bigger menu selection then the rest of the Ruby locations

This Ruby’s was not so great. Both the service and the food were mediocre. However, I am giving it three stars because the location is adorable and the restaurant was clean. Don’t expect anything exceptional here though, it’s just your basic Ruby’s, on the lower scale.

Great Ruby’s location, the patio has a fireplace for those late night milkshake cravings!

We are here on a Friday night and got a great view of the hills and downtown San Juan Capistrano. They have a special menu designed just for this particular location. Ordered from said menu, the sky ranch caliente burger and it was muy Bueno !
Also had the prime rib steak sandwich it was good as well. Service was okay, but what made the meal was the view and there was no real rush to get the table for someone else.
A very enjoyable experience!

Summary: Pretty bad food & service.
This was my first trip to Ruby’s, and I had high hopes based on local friends’ recommendations for a kid-​friendly restaurant.
I ordered the «hand carved turkey dinner» and my daughter had the kids burger.
Both of our meals were cool to cold when served. My daughter’s fries were «cold» cold. They were also the kind of fries with that extra coating which keeps them from going limp once they are cold. Not good at all. She told me that her burger tasted «not so good».
My «hand carved» turkey was apparently carved some time prior to my arrival at the restaurant, and then reheated on the greasy griddle, judging by the sear marks and off-​taste. The mixed veggies on my plate were cool and limp. Potatoes on my plate were the only hot items.
The service was inattentive, even though the restaurant was mostly empty on a Tuesday night. Even the simple bill for two meals was incorrect (we were overcharged). We were held at our table for an extra 15 minutes while we tried to flag down a server for our bill.
On the positive side, they had an excellent balloon artist who visited our table. Her attention to our table and positive attitude were the bright spot of our visit, and exactly the sort of service that the Ruby’s servers should emulate.

I seriously love Ruby’s. This location is one of my favorites thanks to the huge patio overlooking the bustling little downtown San Juan Capistrano.
The inside is smaller than many other Ruby’s, but still plenty of seating… the hostess station is way in the back to the left when you walk in so if you want to sit on the patio you have to go inside to the back to be seated where you just came in from. Silly, but ok.
We almost always sit outside because there are tons of tables and even a bar outside (full bar mind you). The service is always quick and friendly here and the food speaks for itself.
I think I’ve had every burger on the menu now that they have gluten-​free buns… the gluten-​free buns aren’t perfect and they do fall apart, but it fits the bill when you’re sick of ordering your burger lettuce wrapped. Ruby’s also has plenty of other gluten-​free options if burgers aren’t your thing… but then again if burgers aren’t your thing why are you eating at Ruby’s. Plus, how dare you not like burgers.
Their fries are delicious, they have a full breakfast menu that is served until 11am and then partial breakfast menu served all day.
I absolutely recommend this location for a weekend lunch on the patio.

My family and I elected to dine here for lunch recently after a morning of fun spent at the Zoomar’s Petting Zoo just down the road. Plus we figured that my daughter would enjoy seeing the theme-​styled restaurant’s usual model trains chug it’s way on their tracks around the restaurant.
After making our way up their steep staircase we elected to be seated indoors for their air-​conditioning also so my daughter could get a good view of their model trains. The waiter was alright, seemingly in a rush taking our orders. I had my usual swiss mushroom burger and replaced the French fries with onion rings. My daughter ordered their kid’s portion consisting of macaroni and cheese and apple slices.
When our food arrived, our party was very disappointed seeing the large black spot on all of her apple slices. My daughter didn’t like her blemished apple and refused to touch it. Looking back now, I should have spoken up and returned her apple slices, otherwise lesson learned. The rest of us finished most of our burgers and sandwich meals and rolled on out of the restaurant afterwards making our long trek again down their stairs.
The steep staircase was a little rough on my parents and my daughter, so I’m not sure if I’ll be back anytime soon.
