I doubted this place since the reviews weren’t so great, but I realized that they were old and probably for the previous owners. I was willing to try this place out since it had a grand opening sign and a convenient parking lot. I got seated right when I walked in and got my menu and drinks promptly. Service was great so far. They took my order and I had to wait a while since it was busy but it’s understandable since they make your food fresh. The food was reasonably priced and good. Huge servings too! If you like to munch on left overs then this is the perfect place. I had an overall great experience with the service and food! Also a comfortable environment to eat in. Very kid friendly too. Owners told us that they will also be doing delivery once everything gets settled down. Can’t wait for hot Chinese food to arrive at my doorsteps!

I will rate the food once I get it, but the customer service SUCKED. I had to seat myself and waited for at least a half an hour before anyone even came over and took my order. I walked in to be seated at 442pm and left after I couldn’t take it anymore at 525pm. I could understand if it was busy but it was only a handful of patrons in the restaurant… The bad part is 3 parties that came in after I had been seated, got served their food before I even received my canned soda that I had ordered. The owner offered to give me the soda for free, but I just paid for it and left. I would give less but you have to give at least 1 star… I recommend JADEPALACE.

This place used to be really good. But ever since they got new owners the food quality and taste has really gone downhill while the prices have gone up. Not my favorite spot anymore.

Been coming here for years. The food is cheap and freshly made. Parking lot is huge. New ownership as we’ll. my spot forsure.

Always fresh ingredients. The veggies has a well cooked snap! Noodles always fresh not mushy shrimp real shrimp not pea-sized bay shrimp! Breaded prawns crispy deliciousness. Try and you won’t be disappointed! I have been eating here since elementary school never once been shut down by health food department. Do this!

Imperial Garden is one of my favorite places to get Chinese food. I usually order takeout. It never takes too long to wait for and it always tastes delicious. It has a fresh taste and isn’t overly seasoned. The host is always very nice. My favorites on the menu are the Tomato Beef Chow Mein, Pineapple Chicken, Vegetable Chow Mein and Kung Pao Chicken. When I do dine in I take advantage of the nice ambiance the restaurant has. Its very calming and never too crowded. I very much like the décor. My only negative would be it’s location. The area is not too bad but it could be better.

Imperial garden’s décor is really dated. fade to the Flower Drum Song movie to see what this place tried to replicate. flatscreen: movies, sports eats: kung pao chicken lunch speical(5.5) –got it to go, didn’t get soup, fruit of the day … –kung pao mostly zuchinni, celery, peannts and a few pieces chicken –2 chili pods wasn’t enough to spice up the dish –peanuts not roasted enough, –overall dish bland. no sauce in the liquid. –rice mushy. notes: –parking in disrepair, watch out for potholes. –pricing not so cheap, just so so.

It’s just not the same… I’ve ordered food from here several times since Imperial Garden changed ownership. The place is cleaner and nicer now, but the food isn’t as good as it was. They should have kept the old cook. I miss the old fried rice and sizzling rice soup. There’s just a lack of flavor now, and you have to pay more money for less flavor. I’ll still come here, it’s close by and not horrible. I just miss the old Imperial Garden.

INEDIBLECHINESEFOOD. Bland, not seasoned well or even at all. Owners are new, but they said they’ve been there for 8 months. Figured by this point they’d get it together. I ordered chicken chow fun as well as beef and black bean sauce over rice to go. Both came out super watery. The chicken chow fun had only small bits of chicken, no chunks or anything. Way too many vegetables that just don’t belong in chow fun. Napa cabbage? lettuce? The beef was thrown out. Yes. That bad. While waiting 20+ minutes to get my takeout, i noticed the guy bringing food to the table. I understand the plates are somewhat hard to carry but it’s a little gross having your thumb hookover the plate into peoples food that they’re about to eat. Pass.

Pretty good Chinese food. Good for eating in or take out. The Schezuan prawns were extremely good. If doing take-out, I’d recommend getting the sauce on the side, bc the prawns got soggy by the time I brought them home… it tastes much better when you eat them fresh and hot at the restaurant.

I just received a very nasty email from Ryan H. calling me an effing bitch for giving this restaurant such a lousy review. Nice Ryan. Really nice. What happened recently and I apologize to the new owners for this… I noticed my posting was gone, so without seeing why, I just re-posted it which put a date of November 2011 on my review and NOT the actual date I actually ate there which was easily a year or so ago.(Probably longer?) I still stand by the review of the restaurant from the previous owners. I have not eaten at Imperial Gardens since it changed ownership. I have no idea what it’s like so I will remove my negative review of Imperial Garden so it does not reflect the new menu and ownership. Again, sincere apologies to the new owners, and to Ryan H. watch your language. You really don’t need to be quite so nasty. Calling me the F word was a bit out of line. Did you write an equally nasty reply to Lisa T. about her comments? It’s hard to start a new business and really hard to get a restaurant started, so I understand how negative comments can seriously impact a business, however I am still pretty disgusted by your defensive ridiculous email to me, Ryan H. You could have been professional and just asked before you started name calling. I had a pretty bad experience at the old place, so my comments were justified. Re-posting without knowing about the new ownership was irresponsible on my part. Good luck to Imperial Gardens. I am happy to know there are new owners and I am sure the food is a thousand times better. If it was me, I would have changed the name.

I’m a new fan of this restaurant that has apparently been here for a long ol’ time. My friend literally live down the street and we were always skeptical to try it out. However, one night we decided to give it a try and we’re glad that we did! Decent prices and tasty food! We’ve ordered food from here now several times, we haven’t actually ate inside(due to us living so close). The people who work here are pretty friendly. My only semi-complaint is that I wish their soup was thicker. We’ve ordered hot and sour soup here a couple times and while the flavor is good, it’s a bit too thin than I’d prefer.

My family and I have been going to Imperial Garden for a few years. We come here because it’s cheap, VERY kid-friendly, and usually very fast(order your pot stickers before you sit down). The staff are excellent and they always remember us and what we ordered last time. They are a very family-oriented restaurant. They are also within walking distance of our house so it’s very convenient. The food is so-so. It’s a bit greasy and kind of dull as Chinese food goes but there are some dishes like Snow Pea Chicken and Sizzling Rice Soup(not on the menu) that we absolutely love. The décor is a little outdated, but its charming — check out the wall of pictures of families who regularly go there. And my favorite thing of all — the spinning ball Buddha fountain…

I have never been to a Chinese restaurant in Des Moines, but I imagine it would be exactly like Imperial Garden. What flavorless food! The only saving graces are the super cheap prices, the friendly service and the cute little red lanterns hanging from the ceiling(I did mention Des Moines, didn’t I?)
