Perhaps my fiancé and I didn’t order the right dishes, but overall it was just a disappointing experience. I won’t go through the the whole experience play by play, however I will give you my top reasons why this place had me feeling bummed after spending $ 120.00(we did not order beverages). 1. Despite the nicely developed flavors of the pierogi special app, they came out cold. Ugh! 2. The halibut dish was sub par and disappointingly bland(had to doctor with salt and pepper), especially for the price– $ 34! The halibut itself was very greasy and the ravioli were entirely under seasoned and actually were not enjoyable to eat texturally. Spinach and tomatoes were steamed, nothing special. I felt I could prepare this meal at home. Far overpriced! 3. Bread or no bread? Who knows? Anyone?! Why are tables getting bread around us? I speculated, was it because we did not order a glass of wine/beer… It was odd and a definite faux pas. We were not even asked if we were interested. 4. The short rib special had nice reduction but it was not fall of the bone, not tender and half of it was inedible fat that did not have the chance to render down. Again, $ 30+ for further disappointment. The waitress was sweet but lacking fundamental service skills except for refilling the water. She did not inquire as to why half our plates were not eaten either. Inexperienced perhaps? We will not likely be dining here again. It’s really not worth the amount of money they ask you to pay for their dishes. I wish we had a better experience! I was excited when I made reservations to try their food in the atmosphere they offer(exposed brick walls were unique and romantic lighting) but the real star of the evening was going to batch for a coconut ice cream and oatmeal cookie sandwich.

I’m sure the dinner would’ve been awesome if everything ran smoothly, but when something honestly insignificant went wrong the waitress got pretty mean and aggressive to us. huffing and puffing away saying«oh looorrdddeee»(and not even under breath didn’t even hide it lol) …would just throw each of our plates down like she hated us… bizarre for sure. Idk, we ordered easily almost $ 300 worth of appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts. maybe it was just a bad night for her? bummer for sure!

Visited Koberl At Blue this past Friday for the first time and let me tell you, it was awesome! The atmosphere, service, and food were all amazing! It is rare you find a restaurant that excels in all of these aspects and more! I will definitely be returning soon! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess and asked if we had reservations. When we told her no, she proceeded to return with a, «That’s totally okay!» and a smile and promptly sat us in a lovely section in the back! From there we were greeted by a cute blonde waitress, Ashley, who truly was amazing and made our experience there even more pleasurable! She explained to us all of the specials for the night and we chose to go with two of her recommendations which included a seafood dish and the buffalo short ribs! We were not disappointed, both were delicious! The whipped potatoes that accompanied the short ribs were also delectable. As far as appetizers, the oysters served on ice were accompanied by a great cocktail sauce and the ahi tartare was so good as well! The waitress also had an extensive and impressive knowledge of wines and the vast array of specialty cocktails made at the bar. She was so friendly and helpful the whole evening throughout all of my indecisiveness(since EVERYTHING sounded so amazing), and it truly made our experience enjoyable! The other staff were also awesome, swooping up used dishes and empty glasses promptly and always refilling with a smile! Overall, my dining experience at Blue was very impressive and the food was amazing, I cannot wait to return!

Had one of the most uncomfortable and disheartening experiences here. After waiting 40 minutes for $ 30 worth of oysters we asked to not have them anymore since our main course would be coming soon and the waitress was extremely rude she answered aggressively that they took long here and stomped off without apologizing. She even said«oh lord» and rolled her eyes walking away. When confronting the owner and asking for a new waitress they said that she was their best one(which is shocking considering how unprofessional she was acting). The rest of the night went on with her not saying sorry acting extremely uncomfortable and stand offish and shaking her head while walking by as well as mumbling under her breathe. The food was great but for such an expensive meal but I was shocked at how the unprofessional and rude this one waitress was and ultimately felt so uncomfortable I couldn’t enjoy my meal. Ultimately I would not ever come back here due to the horrible service despite the decent food.

Blue is one of my FAVORITE places on the Central Coast! I love the atmosphere and the service is always wonderful! This is a great place to mingle on Thursday & Friday night. A great variety of menu items. The steaks are fabulous! I love the vegetables! Wine and beer list always has some of my favs! I’ll be back soon!

Excellent restaurant! I sat at the bar and got the rib eye. It is served with green beans, mashed potatoes and two dipping sauces, both delicious. I chatted with the bartender, Jeremy, who was very friendly. There’s also a TV in the corner of the bar area. Big windows looking out onto an intersection. I’d definitely come back here if I was in the area.

My husband and I dined here for the first time. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was equally as impressive. The customer service was top notch. They made us feel special from the moment we arrived. This place is a must while in San Luis Obispo

I ordered the pork chop and the sides were delicious– fresh and tasty. My husband ordered the steak and said that his meal was excellent also. The atmosphere was upscale but comfortable, and the service was very good. We were seated right away and the servers were all very friendly. The prices were reasonable considering the quality of the food. We would definitely eat here again.

This place has definitely got it going on! Everything from the ambiance to the food quality is all top notch. Nicely located in the downtown area in a very lovely building that possessed a cozy ambiance, and, unlike most other busy restaurants, the noise wasn’t unbearable. Either they have good acoustics in the building or the particular clientele that dine there just know how to be respectful of other guests and talk at a more graceful decibel. Only minor criticism I have to mention was that the server shotgunned the specials off to us. I may have liked to order one of them but I will never know what they were because it was announced so swiftly.

The atmosphere and this hip, refurbished building is fun and upbeat. We walked in and were immediately taken to a table next to the front entry. I asked to be moved to the table(same size) that was a bit out of the way and had better lighting. I was ignored. Not cool. They turned down the overheard light a bit, but a bright blue light was still glaring in my eyes. The waiters greeted us. She was blonde, bubbly and very sweet. I ordered a half bottle of wine that she recommended according to my request. When she presented it, instead of giving me a taste, she poured a full glass. Before I could give her feedback, she walked away. Incidentally, I didn’t like the bottle at all. She tried to rectify the matter by offering other glasses, but they were not good either. We order the liver, the Caesar salad, the beet salad, the filet and the scallops. The salads were good, not great. The liver was good, the filet was tragically undercooked and the scallops tasted previously frozen or just overcooked. After the mediocre experience, dessert was skipped.

Went there last night with my hubby for our 12th anniversary. First time eating there and was excited for the food. Maybe my expectations were to high. Anyhow, on to the breakdown: Appetizers were Caesar salad and crab chinois. The crab was sort of a crab cake wrapped around a crab claw, served in a glass with a spicy remoulade. It was tasty! The salad was fine, not mind-blowing, but good. For the entrees, my husband got the rib-eye, medium rare, with«paris butter». This butter, we were told, has 25 spices, so we had to go for it. His steak was cooked perfectly, and the teaspoon of butter on the side was indeed full of flavor, as one could imagine it would be. The potatoes were on the cold side, though. Crispy onions on top were delish. I had the tortilla soup as my entrée, because nothing else on the menu really appealed to me. The soup was meh. Corn and beans, a little bit of chicken, maybe there was cheese and avocado but if so it was in miniscule amounts. Tortilla chips on the side to crumble in with the soup. Everything was underseasoned, in need to salt. And no spice whatsoever. Just a bland mediocre soup. For dessert husband got the apple tart with rum raisin ice cream. He devoured it. I got the crème brulee, which was good, but average. And really cold. I prefer it to be a bit more room temperature. The bill, with drinks and tip, came close to $ 200. Service was good, ambience pretty except for the rips in the booths. I may try it again sometime, but am not in a rush now that I’ve been.

Awesome Dining Experience! Celebrating my birthday at a beautifully appointed restaurant that was once a bank bldg I think. It is romantically lit and the décor is classy. The food is delicious. We split the Mixed Grill($ 50), which was enough for both of us. We each had lamb chop, half a filet, shrimp, scallops and duck sausage. It was outstanding! We started with the tempera oysters and Caesar salad. The service was impeccable. I highly recommend this venue for any special occasion meal.

Always assured to have fantastic food with all the delicate flavors that only come from a kitchen with trained professional gourmet chefs, with prices and choices to match. I have never a bad meal here, but this last visit was subpar in two ways. The restaurant was busy, but not full. Initially service was what I would expect, but the waitress essentially abandoned us after the dinner order was placed. Over 1HOURLATER we were advised the kitchen was running behind. During the wait I had to go to the bar myself to order drinks. An hour and fifteen minutes after the basic dinner we ordered was served(First they tried to serve us another tables order), 2 duck, 1 halibut, and 1 seafood mixed grill main courses. While each of the dinners were delicious, and for the most part well prepared, the seafood mixed grill special had burnt shrimp and asparagus on the plate. When I say burnt I mean black charcoal type overcooked burnt, the shrimp was also dry and hard, the asparagus black and crispy with overcooked asparagus goo in the middle. Absolutely inexcusable to have been plated this way. Additionally two small spears of asparagus is not really a side of vegetable but more if garnish, for the price of the dinner would have been nice to have 3 or 4 spears. Anyway burnt shrimp and asparagus would have taken very little time to have cooked and plated properly prepared and tossed the burnt ones. Outside of the long waited and burnt food, the dinners were all exceptional, and perfectly cooked. 5 star dinner with one point taken for excessive and fairly unapologetic wait, and one star taken for plating and serving burnt overcooked food. Cocktails were excellent, and desserts of the quality you expect at a high end restaurant. Hope things will be better next time, couldn’t help but notice several disappointing reviews recently on Unilocal.Come on ‘Koberl at Blue’ you can, and should be doing better than this!!! Bottom line: for dinner at north of $ 50.00 per person, should have been a better experience… Will revise review time if experience is better.

Home of the Amazing LAVACAKEAKA a freshly bake chocolate SOUFFLÉ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is by far my favorite upscale restaurant in the downtown SLO area. FORGETTOURISTYSLOPLACESONHIGUERA! Here you can find: GREATGOURMETFOOD! GREATSERVICE! GREATAMBIANCE! GREATDRINKS! ATFAIRPRICES! My wife even set up a small Birthday Party for me, at my fav table, last year. The waitstaff did a great job of taking care of & serving the cake that my wife brought earlier. They even had candles on it. Whenever I dine here more with my wife, we MUST get the Chocolate Soufflé. It takes 20 minutes to make it fresh, so make sure you order it when you get there. The only other one that I have found in my travels were at Gary Danko’s in SF. Their great Chef is Austrian & really knows how to cook! You can get an excellent Burger with all the fixings at the Bar, or go to back and have a more formal dinner complete with candlelight. My fav dish is their special huge dinner with three different yummy choices like Duck Sausage & other goodies. Whatever we have tried there has been good to great. For you single people, this is a great date spot, sure to impress. Despite the upscale clientele(like the lawyers from the courthouse), the personal liquor locker/cabinets, the service is amazing friendly & make you feel like family. The charming manager & staff are genuinely friendly, nice, & really go out of their way to make sure that you are happy. Most importantly, they seem to select & train arguably the finest wait staff in the area… so no hassle with spoiled Cal-Poly kids who have a «what-ever attitude». The bar area has so much class that you at first feel like you are underdressed… but do not sweat it. Eating at the bar or cocktail tables after a hard day at work, is a pleasure. The bartender is knowledgable about the local beers & wines…& ciders! They have two excellent locally brewed Hard Apple Ciders which go excellent with a loaded Kobe Burger(with cheese, bacon, mushrooms, & a sunny-side up egg). If you are curious about the back wall of fine wood personal lockers, you could inquire. There is a long waiting list & it does cost hundreds of bucks a year, but for regulars who want to reserve their own special liquors, it is worth it. The only other place that I have seen that have an option to reserve you own fine drinks was in some of the local bars in Hawaii… but those were just on a shelf. To conclude: Whether you are a local or not, this is without a doubt the finest best all around place in the downtown SLO area & beyond. It’s only rival is in Shell Beach or in the Bay Area. Once you try the Soufflé, you will be a fan for sure. This is the place for locals to take visiting family to SLO, after a nice stroll downtown.

Parking: All street parking, be sure to arrive early. Place: It would have been very romantic if only it wasn’t so noisy when we ate dinner here! it was dimly lit and nicely decorated. I couldn’t sit across from my fiancé because i couldn’t hear him, had to move next to him. Food: So delicious! The duck was superb — I thought it would be dry but it was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this dish. Presentation was beautiful. Got to love fine dining. Service: Friendly and fast. Tips: Make reservations. Arrive early for parking. Sit next to each other in order to hear lol.

The Mixed Grill may seem festive and an economical choice for two to share, but it was NOTGOOD. Some of the meat was overcooked, weirdly seasoned and unappetizing. Think twice before selecting an ice cream flavor to accompany the chocolate lava cake. When the bill came, we realized that we were charged $ 3 for the scoop. It would have been fine except we were not notified of the surcharge when we ordered the dessert. We were also slapped with an additional $ 3 split plate charge. The dinner ambiance was amazing though– extremely dark and illuminated by a single tealight candle on each table. Perfect for hideous people. So, yeah… I was here…

Still excellent. After my latest visit I was surprised to see that I ordered the exact same things last time, except no dessert this trip. Everything was once again terrific. Probably the best fine dining in SLO. The service was excellent. The waiters are very familiar with the menu and the various preparations. My water glass was constantly kept full. The one uncomfortably long pause came after I received the dessert menu and before my dessert order was taken. A decent selection of wines by the glass with generous pours. The meal was preceded by a nice basket of toasted sour dough bread. The heirloom tomato, field greens, and mozzarella salad was excellent and had a nice balsamic dressing. The tomatoes were perfectly ripe with lots of flavor. The herb roasted halibut was very good, crispy on top and nicely flaky for the rest. It came with a very good, but small, dollop of tomato confit on top and excellent sautéed spinach and a wild rice ravioli. The cheese plate was excellent with nice accompaniments including apple slices, walnuts, quince jelly and honey. I highly recommend Koberl at Blue. I try to eat here everyone I’m in SLO.

Koberl at Blue is understated, elegant and charming. Don’t look for the big neon sign; you will know you are there when you reach the corner of Monterey and Osos, look for the discrete Koberl at Blue sign on the door. The service was extraordinary, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I decided on the Grilled Pork Chop, what an amazing dish! A thick cut pork chop grilled to perfection — tender, juicy and sitting on a bed of roasted fingerling potatoes, corn, fava beans, cipollini, pancetta & watercress. Then Koberl uses a tarragon mustard sauce to choreograph all of the fabulous favors to what has got to be one of the most delicious pork chop dishes around. Next time? Snake River Farms Signature Beef — 12 oz rib eye, of course!

I enjoy Koberl’s bar — beautiful setting and quality cocktails! Koberl offers a number of local resipes for cocktails, which my wife is a fan of. I’m a little more simple, and enjoy a well made Old Fashioned on occasion. Koberl offers some two dozen bourbons/ryes to choose from! The last few times I’ve been to Koberl, Jeremy was our bartender — he mixes a fine tasting drink. The interior at Koberl’s bar is dark wood(cherry?) bar and furniture, However, about ½ the bar is bordered by large windows, looking onto the sidewalk and streets, which provide ample lighting during daylight hours. Well made cocktails served in a comfortable setting? I’m a fan! Cheers! RL
