My boyfriend found this great spot from fellow Unilocalers and it was fantastic! The menu was superb and so was the service. We enjoyed excellent service and the food was great! The rainbow sherbet martini was incredible and the wine list was awesome too. I ordered the Brie appetizer, the duck entrée and the chocolate fondue dessert. My boyfriend enjoyed the cured meat appetizer and the ahi tuna entrée. The ambiance was great and we definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a classy and quality dining experience while in SLO!

This place has a great classy bar with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Don’t get me started on how much I like the food! Make sure to stop in, even if its for just a cocktail or dessert. Side note: I’m pretty sure Jason Bourne/Matt Damon works there, long lost twins!

My fiancé and I went here for NYE dinner. It was delicious, the food, dessert, and drink options were awesome! Our reservations were for 9:00pm but we didn’t get seated until 15 minutes later because some of the previous guests wouldn’t leave their table although they had been long finished with the meal– so perhaps the restaraunt overbooked there. However, the hostess, server, and owner/manager were are very apologetic so that helped. Overall, it was a great experience and we really enjoyed our meal. I had the filet mignon and fiancé had the salmon and we split crème brûlée for dessert(yum!). I thought the price was well worth the quality of the food!

The ambiance and service were absolutely delightful. I mean, JUST lovely. I would be glad to take friends, family and colleagues here to enjoy cocktails, wine and appetizers — however, that would really be the extent of it. My husband and I had the following: Buffalo & butternut squash empanadas, roasted squab w/mushroom risotto and some sort of a red wine reduction, breaded veal with salad and an apple tart tatin for dessert. Both entrees were specialties for the evening. Everything was just… OK. There was nothing special about the flavors and I really expected more in terms of taste from our waitress’ description of the food. The squab was roasted well and the reduction itself was magnificent, but the risotto was again — just ok. The veal wasn’t bland, but it really didn’t have much flavor either. The breading itself tasted really more like just an egg, flour and spice mixture. Something which I could have easily done at home. I expected Koberl to produce food that were above average and definitely something I would walk away from with a rave — it did not deliver. We brought our favorite bottle of Wolff Vineyards Petite Syrah which was corked for a mere $ 20, but if we hadn’t, I must say that the wine list at Koberl would delight any wine fanatic, featuring both imported and local wines. Overall, I will definitely re-visit Koberl just to try it out again since I must admit the menu does invoke promise… plus I still have yet to try these martinis folks have been talking about!

Kind of pricey, but super good food and fun clean atmosphere. Had the beet salad with goat cheese and it was really tasty.

Koberl was our first stop on our wine trip last year. We hopped in to have a few drinks and relax before dinner and ended up staying for a bit at the bar. Excellent atmosphere and great service! Loved the food as well but we only had a sampling while we were there.

Great food and excellent wine selection. I received great service too! However, you should probably make reservations, as there is often a wait to be seated. ~

So for the mother day thing, since mom always wanted to eat here I surprised her by driving by the place, then circling around to find parking. Yeh, I’m sneaky. We walked around the corner and that’s when it hit her that we might actually be eating at a place of her dreams. Not too sure it met with either of our expectations though. Her friends have been bragging about what a fabulous place this was. I dunno, it has all the markings of a great restaurant. It’s hip, trendy, excellent presentation, has a large yuppie martini crowd. But the menu items are just blah. The food was very good, but too safe and just not that creative. Maybe cuz they offer items that all the other high end places have. Come on guys, Ahi Tuna? Get over it. All in all I’d say the wine country is their focus and food not so much. Considering what the bill came to, Mom and I think their reputation exceeded the magic.

I love to go here to get drinks on occasion. The drinks are a bit more than you will find at most places downtown, but the ambiance is pretty nice. I would def recommend pre-ordering the chocolate molten lava cake! SOGOOD(but sometimes they burn it)

I guess I“m the only one who didn’t like this place at all. Pricey, snobby, and the food was OK. When I go out to eat, I like to remember what I had. This place is utterly forgetable. Wine is list good I“ll give it that. But, I don’t appreciate the crowd either. Do ALL the realtors come here after work? It’s like a martini paradise, full of people who are just ignorant about the world. Can we say TRENDY? Hey I’m all about trend, but this place is the cherry on top. These people drink wine because it’s expensive, do they know what they are TASTING? …Ok, I best stop lol. 1 lonely little star for this place.

The food here is delicious as well as the wine selections. We had a glass of wine in the bar and then went in for dinner. If you go early the service is excellent.

As a Foodie, I feel the need to celebrate my holidays at the best of food establishments. I leave nothing to chance and try the businesses several times before settling on them to spend my special time. Korbel at Blue is my favorite. This shrine to perfection gets my vote every time. We started with a Turley 2004 Zinfandel, as this is my favorite Big Zin and a treat to drink. First, we ordered Blue Point oysters and knew that the wine was to be left to breathe and open. We ordered a bottle of Per Bacco Pinot Grigio to go with the appetizers. The oysters were freshly shucked and served with red chili mignonette and a tangy tomato horseradish sauce. Impeccable in every way. The Provencal bread from Farb’s bakery with a sprig of rosemary is one of the reasons I visit Korbel at Blue. It is a yeasty masterpiece. I would sell my soul for this bread and if you have not tried it, you should. The dinning room is smartly decorated with wire Christmas trees with twinkly lights and warmth from the candles. Eric the funniest, most talented chef in the area came over to say hello and wish us a merry holiday. Next, we ordered the snow crab chinois, a treat of three crab claws stuffed with crispy crab and swimming in a cream of ginger, garlic, and cilantro. We fought over them and ended up dividing them equally. We shared the Hoisin marinated chicken lettuce wrap, with several fresh butter lettuce leafs are used as a taco that you stuff with chicken, toasted peanuts and soy wasabi. Amazing and something I always look forward too. We also shared a shredded pork cohiba wrap with black beans, soaked with Cuban flavors. The special was petrale sole done piccata style with lemon cream sauce and capers, baby broccoli and fingerling potatoes. It was like swimming in a warm sea of pleasure for my taste buds. Gary ordered the sautéed duck breast and confit of duck with spring vegetable and yukon gold hash with applewood smoked bacon, goat cheese, rainbow chard, and a port blackberry sauce. After the chef made a dessert of hot baked sliced apples in a cinnamon sauce over vanilla ice cream and it was creamy, sweet precision. What a lucky girl I am.

3 girlfriends & I had dinner here on Sat night. We were in the area to do wine tasting & decided to buy a really nice red to take to dinner. Their corkage fee is $ 20 which is high, but that’s the only(minor) complaint we had. The service was exceptional, food was outstanding, ambience great — all in all the 4 of us were extremely impressed. The bar area was full when we left at 9.30pm so a good spot for a drink if you aren’t dining there. Prices were high but the quality and presentation were so good, it was well worth it. We’d definitely go back.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday here last November. We’d been wanting to go for awhile, and since it is a bit pricey, this gave us a good reason to go. We’re not big drinkers, but if we were this would be a great place to sit back and spend the night drinking and enjoying the atmosphere… in a quiter part of the restaurant. The wine selective is impressive. My husband loved his Syrah. The food was very good, definitely more upscale in its presentation and preparation. But what really made the meal for me was their lava cake… expensive and worth every penny best-I’ve-ever-had lava cake! Perfect texture and a good portion. Warm gooey real chocolate inside. Fresh fruit tossed around on the plate. Next time we feel like spending an easy $ 100 plus for dinner for two, we’ll be back!

You can easily spend over $ 100 for dinner for 2 because I did! O_O Korbel at Blue( ) The presentation of the food is well thought out and placed, as is the taste of the dish. They combine very different ingredients together to make something quite magical! The menu is always changing and exciting! The dessert was my favorite! Poached pear in red wine with a pistachio and ricotta sauce! I loved the atmosphere and to people watch here! It was classy, chic, and modern. It’s always super busy and crowded here in the evenings! So make sure you make reservations or come before dinner. Everyone likes to splurge once in a while on a nice restaurant. So I recommend saving up your money for this place! You won’t regret it!

Despite still sporting the previous restaurant’s name on the front doors, Blue is quite the original fare. The giant wrap-around bar seems to consume the interior. I would call it a restaurant if it weren’t for that. But then again, since when does a bar serve lettuce wraps that are TODIEFOR? But why would a restaurant have a wine and liquor list as long as your arm?(why your arm? because mine is too short.) so is it a bar or a restaurant? i’ll settle with calling it «a great place for a night cap.» great food, great drinks, great service. …and i got picked up on while wearing face paint…

I almost thought it was just a sports bar when I first went in. Keep going and you’ll see the hostess in the restaurant area. Cramped space, especially in the upstairs dining area. The food was good, large portions and tasty. Nothing really stood out – good or bad. When we were wrapping up dinner, I noticed other tables around us getting chocolate truffles, eating them, and then raving about them. I asked for the dessert menu and didn’t see them listed but ordered an apple crisp. So I asked our waitress about them – how does one get truffles? She was embarassed and explained that the owners were treating their«regulars» to an extra treat. She would bring me some since I asked but that’s what they were. I thought that was really tacky of the owners! The regulars next to us said, «That’s not a good excuse, don’t they want to make you a regular?» Good point.

Seems I’ve been giving five stars to restaurants lately… well here’s another one. Our wine was awesome(though expensive), the service was perfect(ask for Laura), the food and ambiance was rockin’. What can I say? My first time in SLO, and you Unilocalers helped me pick this place. I’m glad you did, because it was wonderful. We went on a Tuesday night at like 8 o’clock though, so obviously it wasn’t as busy as it probably is on the weekends, which probably accounts for why we had a better service experience then others. Interesting note — if you try to mapquest this place, or put it in to your navigation system, it takes you to Marsh St instead of Monterey St. We thought it was just our nav system on crack, but our server says that happens to everyone. So know before you go — they’re at the corner of Osos and Monterey streets in the big brick building. Happy dining!

The best restaurant in SLO county. It belongs in San Francisco, but I’m glad that they’re in SLO so that I have somewhere to get a decent fancy coctail when I’m in town.
