Daughter and I ate there and I must say, one of the best in taste, service a and price. Recommend highly

Good food, terrible service. This used to be my favorite Sushi place in SLO but I’m not sure if the management changed or what… But now it’s terrible. Waited over 50 minutes for three rolls, only for them to forget about two of them. Our last two rolls must have sat on the bar for along time as the roll that was supposed to be hot was almost cool, and the other roll was room temp. The only reason I give two stars instead of one is because they were pretty busy and very understaffed, but this is the second time in a row I have had an experience like this.

I come here for lunch on occasion. They have a lunch menu that you can order a ton of sushi rolls off of that will be charged at 50% off, if you order enough to total more than $ 15. Which is a given when you’re eating with more than one person. The rolls off of this menu are pretty good. You can imagine that 50% off means you’re obviously not getting access to the super fancy rolls. But they are good. Just nothing special. Now, their special rolls. Like their Crying Tiger roll, with sriacha, jalapeño and spicy mayo, spicy tuna, and cucumber is amazing. We normally order from the special board and have never been disappointed. They service is good, it’s usually pretty quite around 11:30a, so that’s when I’d suggest coming. They do have a hibachi table which I’d love to do one evening. Prices are good and it’s normally ~$ 50 for two, which is great.

Okay this is my 4th? Revised review… Ownership has changed… again. But it looks like it’s now lead by someone competent. James(sushi chef) left as did Reneé(chef). Jose is still there and there are a couple new sushi chefs there. The place underwent a minor cosmetic change. One thing I really like is their 50% off menu. Here’s how it works: there’s this yellow menu with a bunch of rolls/handrolls/sushi/appetizers on it. Front and back. If you order ATLEAST $ 15 of food from this menu, then the food items you order from that menu will be ½ off(no limit). Example: You order an $ 11 roll from the menu. Still $ 11. If you order two rolls at $ 11 each(total of $ 22), then on your bill it will show 50% off($ 11). If you order $ 60 worth of rolls, sushi or appetizers from that Yellow Menu, your bill will be $ 30 and so on. *DRINKS, tax, and tips(obviously) do not fall under the 50% off rule. *Ordering $ 15 off yellow menu and $ 20 off regular menu will NOT split the entire bill by ½ — just the applicable yellow-menu-items. Still don’t understand? Welp, I’m sorry there’s no other way I can explain it. :/ What me and my friends do is order only from the yellow menu to keep things simple. You are not missing out on much else from the normal menu. In fact, with the serving sizes of the rolls as they are now, you might feel cheated paying $ 17 for a roll. The serving of fish in the hand rolls however are huge and fresh! Definitely an unbeatable price/quantity & quality ratio when ordering hand rolls. 1÷20÷16: The yellow menu used to be during happy hour. But it is now available whenever the restaurant is open.

I think Sushiya is the best sushi place just under Goshi’s in SLO. Even though prices at Sushiya for nigiri and sashimi is kind of high, the times I’ve tried it was decent and fresh. I can tell the fish is of course not something you would find in an expensive sushi shop, but it’s actually pretty firm and fresh for a casual sushi restaurant. Never got food poisoning here after eating here for maybe 2 – 3 years. Rolls here are pretty good.

My pet peeves still stand with this place. Asked for a shrimp roll, server put down Salmon roll, has to correct them TWICE. Asked for a Shirley Temple– was told they don’t have them when it’s on their menu. Food is mediocre. Save yourself for Yanagi’s or… somewhere else in a city somewhere else.

This place is so good! Whenever I go here we have a great experience. I love their California Rolls and Popcorn Lobster Rolls! The prices are average, environment is great, and staff is kind.

Our server Dennis saved the day. There was a problem with our order and he came through to fix it. He was very kind and made up for the issue. SushiYa is lucky to have a server like him.

Really enjoyed our time here since the restaurant had come under new management. The rolls have been delicious and the wait staff is very friendly. Tonight we had Dennis and he really made our evening enjoyable.

We ordered sushi to go for the office a few weeks ago and it was TERRIBLE!!! First of all they got our order wrong and when we called to tell them they said they would give us a call right back so they could credit us back for the things that we did not get, never happened. The fist did not taste fresh at all. What they claimed to be «spicy tuna» we could have sword were some re fried beans. I think we could have gotten better sushi at a grocery store. Never going back there again!

Sake bombs! Hey you won’t get the best sushi of your life but the service is legit and the prices are fair. Do the sake bombs and enjoy life! BTW just did a sake bomb. Ask for the unfiltered sake ;) the waiter Dennis is super sarcastic but really funny, makes your dinner special ya know.

We picked Sushiya to celebrate our son’s birthday. We were pleasantly greeted and seated at the Teppan table. The server(Eric) was very polite and prompt with our drinks. Then came the real fun… Chef«John» came out and entertained us with his quick wit and knife skills. He chopped, sliced and diced. This Chef, by far, made our experience a solid FIVESTARS! Food was good but it was all of the above that made our experience outstanding. Thank you Sushiya!

We went there a few weeks ago. I didn’t like it but my husband thought it was alright, hence the three star review. My sushi was a little warm. The portions were really small, the miso had barely any Miso, and they charged us more than what the menu said. We got out of there for about $ 45. It was just two of us. You should go to Goshi’s instead. It’ll cost you about the same but you won’t have any complaints.

Below generic service. Food is just ok but nothing special. Very underwhelming and definitely not worth the price. Overall I would say last resort for Japanese food as your experience will be forgotten almost as soon as you leave…

Favorite sushi place in the area! I’ve been to them ALL. The fish is always super fresh and they know how to do their spicy tuna. I hate ordering spicy tuna and it has NO spice to it. This does not happen at Sushiya. The menu is huge, they have bento box, tepan table, and a ton of unique rolls. We had a spicy tuna salad tonight that couldn’t have been better. And our favorite roll is the Crunch Red Fox-never fails. We live in AG and go out of our way for this sushi.

This place isn’t too shabby at all! I was impressed by the extensive sushi menu they had. I ordered their signature Sushiya roll and it was pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but still good nonetheless. My brother always gets this deep fried beef dish and I tried it and it was amazing. Definitely see myself ordering that when I return. I had the bento box and it tasted like any other bento box. Our waitress really didn’t know much about the menu but she said she was really new so I can’t really fault her. I would come back :)

Aside from the glitz and glam — sushi rolls with flame underneath, loud décor and elaborate dance club birthday celebration — I’d say this place is just mehh. I would suggest Goshi as a go to place for lovers of authentic sushi experience and, if your not up for the 45 minute wait of Goshi on a Saturday night, give Kumi Ko a chance!

Came in with a group of 12 for my friends birthday our waiter Kody made us feel welcomed! He was very knowledgable of the menu and specials and remembered all 12 of our orders! Great food! Every plate that came out was a piece of art I would recommend sushiya to any of my friends! Very impressed!

Love it, big plates, good service, great taste, the baby lobster was the best! I love to come here and get a beer and the spicy pork plate, which is more than enough for two, if you want to share!

Soooo… I’ve came here before 4 years ago and it was okay. Came here very recently and wow idk what happened. We wanted the Sashimi Combination, which comes with 40 pieces. They told us they didn’t have Yellowtail, Tuna, and something else, so it reduced it to 12 pieces… WAY less than half! Wthec?! That was just shocking. A japanese place that sells sushi, but doesn’t have any fish… doesn’t make sense. We got the lunch combo that comes with miso soup. Usually the miso soup comes before the meal, but we didn’t get ours till after. They said they ran out and had to make another batch. Usually, restaurants are able to predict when they are about to run out so the guests won’t have to wait, but nope. Also, I asked for sauce on the side… and my salmon teriyaki was drenched, but at that point it wasn’t even worth telling them. Overall, the food was honestly good. Just the other aspects brought it way down.
