The food is delicious, one can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the owner is super friendly.

Delightful little place for lunch, breakfast, or coffee. I met a friend for lunch. I had the smoked salmon/goat cheese omelet to which I added spinach, and she had the eggplant parmesan. The omelet was served with a couple baby potatoes roasted to perfection. The smoked salmon was the big flake kind, and the whole dish was delicious. The taste of my friend’s eggplant parmesan was equally yummy. The very pleasant Italian gentleman who took our order was knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his food and his restaurant. Everything was prepared with care and a step above. Bonus: At one point, he came running into the separate room we were sitting in to let one of the customers know their meter was expired and they were about to get a ticket. I’m looking forward to coming back for coffee and breakfast, for another lunch, or just for a quiet and comfortable place to work when I want to get out of the house. Downtown San Mateo has been needing a place like this.

This place is awesome. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they care about making your experience a good one. The food came up really quick(2 – 3 min). Can’t wait to come back and try the shawarma.

Great little spot for brunch on the way to the airport. Our omelettes were delicious and were served quickly despite every table being full. The mimosas were perfect as well. I recommend eating in but there was a nice selection of pastries, etc if you need to take food to go.

A wonderful gem in San Mateo. Sun-filled and cozy, with a very friendly owner that makes a mean espresso. Great paninis, too!

The problem with seeing al the great reviews and looking trough the photos is then going in with high expectations. That’s what happened to me. So first to confirm: Yes, the guy behind the counter is super cheery. That alone will wake you up. Who needs coffee! Coffee is very good. It’s dark roast. Bold and fiery! Croissant was fresh and crispy. Delicious. Space is welcoming and split into multiple rooms so you can find a nice place to sit. Here is where my expectations were off. Menu is really limited. I was looking for a small breakfast. There were only 5 choices on the breakfast menu. All were omelettes. There were also cookies and other Danishes. The only small non sweet item was a croissant so that’s what I got. Bottom line, nice locale, nice service, good food, but extremely limited options. Worth a try for sure.

Fiero is an absolute gem in San Mateo and I almost hesitate to write this review and share my secret. Filipo the owner is amazing, super warm and welcoming and a great latte /coffee maker. The space is great lots of room and tons of light. Plus, there are three different spaces where you can set up shop to read the paper or have a quick meeting. Free wifi let’s me come here for a change of scenery in the afternoon as well. I don’t go anywhere else for coffee, a quick breakfast, or lunch. Must visit.

Was looking for some good food on our way to the airport. Ended up here based on all the good reviews and I have to say it lives up to the expectations. Had the lasagna which was to die for. Finished it off with an espresso which was fantastic. And, of course, Filippo was very friendly and hospitable. Would definitely come back again.

There are very few casual places in San Mateo that are rated 4 stars or higher, despite there being a lot of good food. The fact that this place is rated 5 with over 50 reviews so far is definitely noteworthy, and well-deserved in my opinion. Outside, the place kind of looks like a diner. The sign is very diner-ish even though it says café. Once you go inside, it feels nothing like a diner. The décor is very interesting and hard to describe in one word. It has a cozy/homey feel, but is also open/spacious with a lot of natural light. It feels like a house because there are a couple different rooms where you can sit and eat, but they’re all connected via open door-ways and all the rooms have windows. It’s definitely a neat place to chill and do some studying, minus the hustle and bustle of a busy coffee shop. The food is very fresh and tasty. This is one of those places where the ingredients and dishes are simple and straightforward(they almost sound kind of plain when reading the menu), but because everything is made well and made to order, it tastes great. My go-to so far has been the Sicilian omelette, which is not made from your typical pizza italian sausage but something that looks more freshly ground and not pre-shaped into chunks. The egg is scrambled very well and has a soft texture. And like I said, it’s made to order so when you get your food you know it’s hot off the grill. If I had to gripe about something it’d be that it’s a tad on the oily side, but not sure how much of the grease is from the sausage or from added oil for cooking. Lastly, the staff here is super friendly and just the right amount of energetic. The owner is so nice and makes sure everything is ok. Because everything is made to order, the food doesn’t come out fast, but he’ll check in every now and then and let us know when we can expect our food to come. One time I came in with a few coworkers, and after we all finished our meals, he gave us chocolate mousse to share on the house!(and yes, it was good) The location of this place makes it lower profile since it’s just outside of downtown on the other side of El Camino. But I would highly recommend seeking this place out.

This is the place with the best coffee in town. They also have the best«Cannoli a la Siciliana» in the Bay Area, slightly different from the ones in Italy but very fresh since they prepare them for you just in time.

First visit and quite pleased. Yummy Caesar salad(prepared fresh and not out of a bag or frozen chicken) hot cocoa, and WiFi. And the wonderfully charismatic Italian behind the counter called me «Bella» so I felt pretty. What can I say?! :)

Holy crap, can you say«The Best Omelette in San Mateo» this place puts the other«breakfast» only deli to shame! This guy(I think he is the owner), he knows how to deal with his clientele, a very friendly yet the food is exceptional delicious!!! I had a Sicily and the sausage that he used is off the charts my old friends! I am definitely coming back for more. Great place to hand and work or to kill time. Cheers!

The prices are reasonable. The food is great. I’ve tried their muffins, omelettes, specialty drinks and desserts. The place is quaint and clean. The gentleman always greats me as «Bella,» what a nice compliment! What more can you ask for? ;)

If you want real coffee, go here. By real, I mean, keep you awake all night, super high octane and super delicious stuff. :) Their foods are also delicious. I’ve tried both their breakfast omlet and their homemade lasagna. Both wins. I’m really happy to see this place here. May have to go again this weekend!

My windy, cold Sunday consisted of dreary school work, but Fiero Caffe really perked up my day. :-) Upon entering, the café is super clean with plenty of seating options(and outlets!!). The music is great, and the guy behind the counter was super friendly. They have a pretty robust food menu, and I would’ve ordered something if I wasn’t still full from a late lunch. Instead, I ordered a vanilla latte and then posted up in the other room with my laptop for an intense rendezvous with the final draft of my senior thesis. I love coffee shops, and the soft background noise really got me into the writing process. The latte was AMAZING, foamy, and delicious, just the right sweetness(some places really drown out the coffee with sugar). I would definitely come back, especially if I needed to get some more work done. Access to outlets, free wifi, and delicious coffee is a great combo for productivity.

Friend: I’m just searching for my soulmate, you know? Me: meh. I’m just looking for someone who can mildly tolerate cats and will watch my stuff when I have to use the bathroom at a coffee shop… but good luck to you on your journey. Don’t think of it as settling. Think of it as me being so self sufficient that those 2 things are really all I need at this point. I don’t need a soulmate, I need someone who’ll help with the litter boxes and let me bask in the glory of being comfortable with the monster I’ve become… and if they want to take me out to eat every once in a while they wouldn’t get any guff from me. Anyway, I didn’t come here to meet anyone, but while I was here I thought about how it maybe is a good idea to hang out in coffee shops because then I’m already like a quarter of the way there. I could test strangers to see if they’ll try to steal my ish when I ask them to watch over it. Maybe even throw in some creeper bait like a notebook clearly labeled, ‘Cootie’s Super Secret Diary — DONOTREAD!’(Cootie will be mission alias… obvi can’t give away my real name) and see if they snoop or steal. If they remain loyal, maybe I’ll buy ‘em an Italian sodie pop or one of Fiero Caffe’s $ 7 mimosas(only if they had to actively ward off possible faux diary poachers) and strike up a conversation to test the water regarding their feelings towards cats… because you gotta be proactive about meeting the person of your dreams, right? Or at least that’s what I’ve gathered from the unsolicited advice people keep trying to give me. This was only my first visit of many hopeful future visits because it seems like a great place to scout for potential ‘watch my stuff’ partners and also because they serve vegetarian lasagna. Actually, now that I’ve reminded myself about the lasagna I couldn’t care less about finding a partner or my stuff getting stolen. Who needs stuff when you’ve got lasagna? Certainly not me or Garfield. If you really want to know more about this Caffe you should just go there now, check it out, and stop being so dependent on my opinion of the joint. Not that I’m wrong, but if you’ve already read this far something tells me you’ve got a lot of time on your hands and you can afford to take some minutes out of your day to drive on over here and chill out in one of their 3 very different seating areas/rooms with a perfect latte and probably some lasagna because you’re only human. Speaking of perfect lattes… I can attest to that statement from experience. Filippo(the super Italian owner who also happens to have a lovely singing voice) made me one mean cup of caffeine… so good, in fact, that I went back for more. Only my second time at bat I got an iced tea because a few hours had passed and the sun was at its peak and I get real sweaty real fast so the IT was like my cooldown. It was also perfect and it wasn’t nasty jasmine tea like so many places in the Bay Area give you when you just want a straight up regular, non-baby Tylenol tasting tea. Inside is bright with light and warmth from the windows. There’s one room that’s kind of like a reading nook area, perfect for a small book club gathering, interview, coffee with a friend, or eating lasagna by yourself. The main coffee shop area is a bit more masculine with a long bar for coffee, beer, wine, italian specialty sodas, etc. There’s a small variety of baked goods and a well defined menu featuring just a few items for breakfast, lunch, and beyond. I’m not sure how early is too early to order the lasagna but I’ll make a mental note to find out the next time I’m in. And then there’s a third room area that’s got a mega comfy couch, some great study area type table, and an adorable high-top that overlooks a little garden-y creek down below. It’s adorable and a really nurturing environment for working alone on your laptop and eating lasagna. Go. Eat lasagna. Drink some coffee. Wash it down with more lasagna. Listen to Filippo sing songs in Italian while making more caffeinated beverages.

There have been a number of cafes in this location, but it’s new incarnation is very special. The new owner, Filippo, is a very warm personality and a fine barista as well. Filippo is from Italy and the café is a bit of a hang-out for European folk passing by or folks wanting to practice their Italian. Coffee is imported and excellent. Panini and omelette are available, but I have not yet tried the food extensively, since the kitchen doesn’t get cranking until 9 am. The space is light airy spacious and completely redone. It is a calm and spacious alternative to the mob scene at the big coffee chains. Street parking is always available on the west side of El Camino, right in front. Fiero is a real gem and a great way to start the day or take a calming break.
