Mr. Nate’s Adventures in Music

I agreed 100% with the previous two reviews. My six-​year-​old daughter has been taking piano classes with Mr. Nate for a year now, and she has developed many skills as well as a true appreciation for music. In school, she shies away from challenge, but when it comes to piano, she practices everyday because she wants to make Mr. Nate proud. I also LOVE his low stress/​low anxiety approach to recitals! My daughter looks forward to her performances, and she feels a sense of pride in the end. I know she’ll be with Mr. Nate for years to come.

My daughter (7) has been taking piano lessons from Nate for about 9 months and she absolutely loves it. It’s the highlight of her week. Nate makes learning music fun — he’s a real clown with the kids. My memories of sitting in a quiet room with an old lady sitting next to me on the piano bench making me learn boring songs is nothing like what my daughter is experiencing. They play games and have a lot of fun each day. And she never argues with me when I remind her that it’s time to practice. She does it happily because she wants to impress Mr. Nate. I think the group setting is perfect for her because she doesn’t feel on the spot and learns from the other kids. I would highly recommend Mr. Nate to anyone looking for piano lessons for their young child.

Mr. Nate has a passion for music and teaching that rubs off on the children. He has just the right mix of fun and serious to help them learn the techniques and to maintain their motivation to practice. I don’t even have to tell my daughter to practice her piano, she does it willingly and with enthusiasm. Mr. Nate has also encouraged her to go at the speed that is comfortable for her, which in her case is mock speed, but I have seen him also accommodate many children who want or need to spend more time on particular songs or sections of the book. He is a fabulous teacher for the beginning piano student, and teaches more than piano. He teaches them how to love music.

I enrolled my son in a classical piano class with a well respected teacher when he was 7. Unfortunately, he felt lost and stressed out under her instruction. He dreaded practicing and hated going to class. On several occasions he burst into tears and refused to go to class. Fortunately, I found Mr. Nate through word of mouth and my son loves music again. He enjoys the group setting and looks forward to going to class every week. Mr. Nate brings an uncommon enthusiasm to his work and connects well with each child. My son feels a great sense of pride and accomplishment every week and no longer experiences the pressure of a traditional class. He’s not advancing as quickly as I’d like, but he loves his class and is so impressed with his teacher that I know he will stick with it and progress at his own speed. In this community we tend to over schedule our kids and create pressures where they don’t need to be. Having an after school activity that is fun and educational is priceless.

We found Mr. Nate when we wanted my older son to start piano lessons at age 7. Mr. Nate’s easygoing, fun-​loving approach not only kept him interested for several years, but inspired my son to move on recently to take classical piano lessons with a one-​on-​one teacher. I credit Mr. Nate with igniting and maintaining that spark of interest that is growing into a real love of music. Now my younger son has been Mr. Nate’s student for almost a year, too. And they both love the summer camp.
