Amazing lunch deals, you can’t beat it. I walked over from the hospital and the lady owner was opening up. She takes pride in her restaurant and it shows. She was very sweet and setting lighting up and turning on music to open the restaurant up. It is a quiet restaurant with simple plain décor, but it is really clean. I ordered the lunch special for 6.99 which you seriously can’t beat. I got egg drop soup, hot tea, fried rice, a spring roll and chicken with vegetables. The veggies were cooked perfectly and fresh, broccoli, water chestnuts, onions, carrots, snow peas and bamboo shoots. There were solid yummy chunks of chicken, not like a lot of Chinese restaurants that leave you wondering what the hell animal it is. I also waited to write this review as Chinese is loaded with so much salt and msg you feel tired and bloated afterward, but that didn’t happen at all. Over all it’s not a five star restaurant by any means, but they are very pleasant, clean, priced well and delicious. Also in the time I was there about 5 other tables sat down, and whether the waiters were in the back or not, they rushed up to the table with water and hot tea, and for the 2 different tables who must come in often they walked right up to them with their iced teas or sodas that they like before they had a chance to ask. A lady walked in and out in a lunch to go order and the chef walked out with a soup for her to eat while she waited! Needless to say the hospitality was very impressive!

I’m giving Shin-Shin a five-star rating just for their Honey-Glazed Walnut Shrimp. It’s sooooooo good. So is their War Wonton Soup and Crabmeat Rangoon. Actually, it’s all good there at Shin-Shin Restaurant. I’ve been eating there for many years and never been disappointed. Prompt, friendly service always!

I have always enjoyed their food. We live a few blocks away and have tried Louie’s buffet style but think this tastes better although a few dollars more.

I’ve been coming here for over 30 years. The food, the service, is always five star. The prices are very fair. The restaurant is very clean. I love their wonton soup.

Love this place. Our family has eaten here several times and the food has been great! A nice size dinning room with tables that can be put together for large families. I love the feel of the room, as soon as I walk in I feel like it is an American style Chinese restaurant.

I went once… Ordered a wide range of food. Haven’t been back. Somehow it didn’t taste like much and everything tastes the same.

This is the prototypical, Americanized, Chinese restaurant. It is practically an archetype. It has the protoypical lunch combo menu with broccoli beef and Kung Pao on it. Fast service, and pretty much everything you could expect. It is a wonderful value, the food tastes good, and it is convenient. There is nothing special happening here to warrant 4 stars or above. If you had to make up a Chinese food menu off the top of your head baste on every stereotypical dish you could think of, you’d probably come up with this menu. I know this sounds mean, it’s not meant to be. I will definitely come for lunch once or twice a year, and if I worked close to here, I’d go at least once or twice a month, if not more often for lunch. But I would never invite someone for dinner here, or order from here if I really wanted to treat myself. If it’s lunch time and you want Chinese and you’re close, go here right now you won’t be disappointed.

Don’t order the Chicken broccoli, it should be called Corn starch chicken. Literally zero flavor, not even from the broccoli. The pork fried rice was equally as bland. This will be the last visit to Shin Shin.

The three star average rating is correct in my opinion. There are good things about this place and bad. First off — it’s not high quality Chinese, but its not nasty food-court msg massacre either. IT’s sub standard cheap Chinese, and it’s clean — as you will find out if you use the bathroom — which you have to walk through the kitchen to get to. This is one of the perks — the kitchen really is clean, and that’s always a good thing. As for the food — it just isn’t anything special, reminds me of average Chinese places I ate at in upstate New York as a kid in the 80’s before the high end stuff came up from the city. Also — they seem to be closed a lot when I go there — and the staff don’t have the greatest attitude. 3 stars. This is the place to go if you live in the center if san pedro and don’t feel like driving.

Very rude staff and owners. Food is on the inferior side of mediocre. It is not for Asian tastes. The dishes are dumbed down for the Gringos There is an extensive menu. Far too many dishes to do even one well. would eat anywhere else.

I NEVER do Unilocal reviews, but I am compelled to do so now. We used to come here all the time, and last night Chinese to-go sounded great. WHATHAPPENED! The Pot Stickers were fried and not in a pan, the house special fried rice was flavorless, and the sweet and sour shrimp was all mixed in the box and soggy when it all got home(3 miles). Most places give you the fixings in different boxes to let you mix it yourself. I used to(note used) love the Wor Wonton Soup… it was my fav, but no more. Soggy veggies, dumplings that were pasty, and not worth the effort. Totally the WORST I have had, even compared to that dive on Gaffey Street that gives you a lot of food for a few bucks. A wasted $ 50.00. Shin Shin… you lost it! Get a new cook! It’s off to Chin’s on Broadway in Long Beach for us now, Shin Shin is a place to avoid sadly.

The service here is outstanding. The food is ok, but there is a real lack of local competition, so you don’t have a ton of options if you want a sit down Chinese food restaurant. Due to this I won’t get in to which dish is better than which. Most are decent a few are standouts. None are terrible. The real bummer is the ambiance. It’s eerily quiet inside, and the décor is dated. I’d describe the vibe as — library. If we are dying for Chinese food, we’ll order from here. But we rarely if ever dine in anymore. Despite the great service, the place really does need a massive face lift inside. You feel weird even talking inside, like you’d get in trouble for being too loud. I hope this place sees the various reviews that have brought this up. I’d love a more modern and updated restaurant in town. Even if the food is just ok, I’d still come if the overall dining experience was better.

Non buffet style Chinese establishments in San Pedro are far and few between. I stumbled across Shin Shin about two months ago. Not being a fan of the line buffet style places, I was thrilled to discover a sit down restaurant close to my home. I have been there now 4 times and I have to say that this was a good find. The food is fresh, reasonably priced, and yummy. They do not rush and allow you to take your time and relax. I can’t stand it when you order soup and an appetizer and your main meal and it all comes out shotgun style or all at once. The wait staff here is very conscious about making sure you have finished one course before they bring out the next. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend you stop by and have lunch or dinner.

The décor is the same as other Chinese restaurant. The food is also made as others, it was nice and tasty but not the best and not the worst… Service was good. If you come later in the evening theres plenty of parking, prices are ok.

I’ve been coming here for decades now, & Shin Shin has became me like a loved member of the family. We come for celebrations, so Shin Shin has been there for most of our memorable events. My family loves this place that much. There’s something for everyone– the vegetarians, pescatarians, the carnivores, the omnivores. Everybody can find something on the menu. The lunch specials are a really great deal. Includes egg drop soup, egg roll, rice, and entrée. We always receive the best service & since we would come here so frequently, the server and cooks know the order as soon as we walk through the door. Fantastic restaurant with many menu options. Enjoy!

Good is good but service is not. The server doesn’t stop by at the table and asked if the food or anything I needed.

Like Martin said, totally Christmas Story restaurant. In fact, that was one of the best parts of this place. It is clearly an institution in San Pedro. This place is always busy. Always. At the weirdest times too, like you walk in at 3pm on a Wednesday and its busy. so that speaks for itself. The only reason I am not giving it higher than a 3 is because the vegetarian options aren’t very good. There are a couple, like the bok choy is very good and the mushrooms are delicious, but that’s about it. The orange chicken made my father’s stomach sick, but that’s as far as I can comment on the rest of the menu. Service was good. Food was all right. Limited Veg options. Mock Christmas Story set.

Local shop, like walking in to that scene in A Christmas Story when the dog eats the Christmas dinner and they end up in a Chinese restaurant. It’s cool in that kitschy kind of way. The food is o.k. although I’m not sure when the Chinese started using maraschino cherries and pineapple in their savory dishes but I digress, there are two choices for Chinese food in town and not many more in the south bay so short of driving to the San Gabriel Valley you are hitting one of these places to get you’re sweet n sour or kung pao whatever on.

Shin Shin = scarier version of Twin Peaks. And while this would normally equate to me being in love with it, it actually kind of skeeves me out. The inside is circa 1970s porn house and not in a good way. Everything from the decorations, booths, chairs, mirrors… it’s all very creepy. There’s always a ghetto handwritten sign on the swinging doors about how the restroom is broken. Ugh. The owners seem normal(and are actually quite nice), but the wait staff here is downright scary. Think ex-cons with tattoos, gold teeth, and dirty aprons. They’re attentive, just unsettling. I wouldn’t be surprised if you went into the back and saw a horror movie meat locker with human bodies hanging in there. The dishes are very bland… even the spiciest ones. The pork sparerib appetizer is huge but always seems like it need to be cooked longer and with less grisel and fat. The kung pao chicken is uninspiring. Seriously people… my fortune cookies were stale. No me gusta. I’m not going to lie; I live around the corner from this place, so I do order food from there on occasion. But really, it’s out of laziness and desperation. The food is subpar at best. They do give you quite a bit of it, though, so you can leave feeling that you paid a lot for a lot of shitty food! Woohoo! I really hate to say this, but you’re better off going to Lucky Star(even though I’m not a fan). Or better yet! Eggroll King. At least it’s cheap there.
