Went with the family AND the dogs(2LARGE goldens) and sat out on the patio. Gabby was great as the waitress and we had breakfast. Eggs Benedict and Eggs Marin(no meat). My daughter had chocolate pancakes– WOW, I tried a bite and they were delicious. All in all, really relaxed on a Sat morning and having the dogs was a bonus. Really liked the food and service!!!

The male bartender here is great, but the female one with chin length hair and a big back tattoo is super unpleasant. She completely ignored us when we sat down, then when the other bartender asked if she’d mind changing one of the Sharks tvs over to the Warriors for us, she said, «Yeah I fucking mind.» Directly in front of us. Awesome.

Alexis is the best bartender. She used to work at Peris and she can make a drink. The food is pretty good as well. I like that they deliver breakfast. We order pretty frequently, they come quickly and open as early as 6

We stopped at this restaurant on our way thinking to grab a quick bite. AHA… the waitress messed up every single thing that we ordered. It took them around 50 mins to bring us our food while the restaurant was literally empty. The iced tea that I got tasted like urine. Half of us didn’t get utensils when the food was served, so we had to go and fish out some from other tables. Eggs Benedict were just hard boiled eggs on a slice of over fried Canadian bacon.14 dollars for that. Wtf?! The owner needs to shut down this place and move somewhere far before people who are disgusted and poisoned by this place filed a report to the health services.

Order here all the time– cool owners who care a lot about their service and products. Recommend the hot sandwiches– salmon is a winner. So many sandwiches to chose from! Try them all:-)

Delicious breakfast at the West End Café! Super friendly service, smiles, endless coffee. My husband and I split an «Incredible Potatoes» and ordered our eggs on the side… they brought our split plate of potatoes already split onto two plates, with my eggs on top of mine, his on top of his. So accommodating, and we appreciate it! The dish was SOYUMMY, full of mushrooms and onions and avocado and served with a spicy salsa and sour cream on the side. Fellow vegetarians, I noticed they have«veggie sausage» on the menu — we didn’t have any this time, but we’ll try it on our next visit. Plenty of veg-friendly options here, including a $ 3.75 egg-and-cheese sandwich on english muffin. Some really unique and beautiful art gracing the walls, which may have nothing to do with breakfast but it sure did contribute to our enjoyment of the meal.

If there was a way to give no stars that’s how I would rate this restaurant. There were six of us friends that met there for breakfast today. Every single one of our orders was screwed up our food was cold – I ordered over medium eggs and got over easy eggs that were even less than over easy they were runny and gross. my husband and daughter had to send their blueberry pancakes back because they were Raw in the middle and then the second pancakes we got were also raw in the middle. The bathrooms are really gross if I hadn’t ordered already when I went to the bathroom I would’ve come out and said let’s leave. it smells worse than a port a potty! Also someone from the kitchen without any teeth came out and talked to our table TWICE!!! Now half of us feel sick to our stomachs/we are at a Walgreens getting peptobismol. I am thinking of trying to make myself throw up. DONOTEATHERE!!!

Overpriced, slow service, and mediocre ingredients. Would recommend passing and hitting the buffalo wings spot a few doors down.

BREAKFAST: Good basic breakfast. I have been having breakfast meetings here for ten years or so — about once a month. It is my ‘go to’ breakfast place in San Rafael. Basic. Clean. Friendly. Not upscale. Nice place. Nice people.

Wandered in tonight on the 4th of July. Was greeted by the nicest bartender Sarah who made us really feel comfortable. We just came in for a quick drink were heading to Flat Iron. Because of Sarah we stayed. The house wine is excellent as is the food. The ambience is cozy and warm. What I love the most is the music on demand very Silicon Valley wired. Nice not to deal with a juke box that costs money and you may or may not hear your song. Great location too! We will be back!!!

Note to self: If a place looks meh, it’s probably meh. Pros: — Has outdoor seating. — One of the servers was friendly and energetic. — The ice tea wasn’t over-brewed. Cons: — The onion rings were greasy(said our neighbor). — The owner wasn’t friendly(took our order, didn’t smile, just stood in the doorway nearby while taking our order, unshaven, didn’t say anything after we finished saying what we wanted — just left). He seemed like he was having a hard time. — They have large tin cans in the corners of the patio(which is only 10 feet deep) that are full of cigarette butts. It’s illegal to smoke within 15 feet of a doorway. — They have a bench out front of their bar. While that’s nice, someone took that as an invitation to sit and have a smoke — 10 feet from us trying to enjoy our lunch. — They don’t stop people from smoking near their doors. — One server didn’t speak any English — not even«What food do you like here?» — The service was confused. There is no assigned server for a given table. Four different people asked us what we wanted to order. — The burger was lousy. — They don’t clean their griddle enough. The pancakes had a taste of savory dishes in them. — They got our order wrong(brought small stack instead of full stack of pancakes). — It’s overpriced — $ 11 for 3 pancakes with maple syrup(no sides)? — Being within 50 feet of the corner of 4th and B Streets has drawbacks. I watched while someone on the street walked by and took the bacon off a plate that hadn’t been cleaned up. — They take their sweet time in cleaning off the tables. — Our table hadn’t been wiped clean when we arrived. — The ice tea was tasteless. — The bathroom was clean, but needed renovating. — They had about 5 food guests and 6 or 7 people at the bar. 6 or 7 people were working the front. 2 guests per server seems like too many servers, but given the disorganization, I’m not surprised. So we won’t be returning. On a side note, the space is big and has a liquor license. If they sold it, someone could remodel, tear down the wall separating the café and bar, and make a nice restaurant out of the space. And that would take some cash.

It’s a little bit unusual is a café because when you enter it you’re not really sure what door to go through and then when you get inside you can’t tell if there’s table service or not. I noticed that the customers were having similar problems trying to figure out whether if they sat in the other room the back room where the bar is whether they would have someone take their order. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. It was very good I liked it it was me D good size came with a pickle and a pepperoncini and was hot. It was served on light rye. You have to serve yourself your own water out of paper cups out of a giant container they have in the front you have to get your napkins from the counter and you have to ask for ketchup if you need it on your food its not at the tables. There’s several people that work there but they’re not all in the room at the same time so you never quite sure who does what. There was one man that greeted me when I came to the counter he was older and seemed to be the person that was sort of in charge of the kitchen area so I let him make my sandwich for me I waited at my table then I went up and paid for it because no one asked me for payment so I paid it to the lady and then the sandwich. By yet another person. The bartender was also in the restaurant side for a bit too not sure why. Anyways a very unusual when is being served I wasn’t sure if I needed to even bust my own plate after eating my sandwich was $ 9 men think it’s a little high for a sandwich but downtown San Rafael maybe they have higher rent.

JUSTDON’T DOIT! Every thing that could have gone wrong did. Food was horrible, order was late, order was wrong, I was over charged, and the owner was extremely rude! Don’t normally leave bad Unilocal, but this really took the cake.

Always nice going to West End. Bright and sunny storefront, great falafel and gyros. I also enjoy the bar that is connected. They have a killer happy hour: $ 1 tacos and $ 2 burgers. Can’t beat it!

We’ve used West End a lot for catering events and have never been less than delighted. I’m writing because we just had a big dinner yesterday, and everybody loved the food(and we loved the modest cost). And we also loved Robert, who delivered and served the food and helped with all sorts of other things, like moving chairs and bartending, that weren’t in his job description. I’m vegetarian and yesterday’s whole meal — which was lavish and extensive — was vegetarian, so I can’t comment on other dishes. I do want to say I’m amazed that people have had rude service at the West End because I’ve always found everybody to be so polite and gracious.

Went to the café for a late breakfast. Good food, not so good service. I ordered a sandwich and salad, which my husband shared with me, and my stepdaughter ordered a wrap. First off, they forgot about her wrap, and we waited to eat our food, hoping her’s would come out, and then most food started cooling off. Secondly, they charged an arm & a leg for coconut water. $ 3!!! It is $ 1-$ 1.50 in stores!!! Ridiculous. And third, they tried to charge us for the sandwich and salad separate(for $ 8 you can get salad & sandwich — they tried to charge for each item individually $ 6 more!).

**BARREVIEWONLY West End Café is a place for Happy Hour. Period. When you’re stuck in San Rafael and your bank account is hurtin’ real bad, West End provides super cheap specials to drink and snack on. I mean, you can’t really argue with $ 2 and $ 1 tacos(that are stuffed, by the way) paired with cheap well drinks and pints. However, even with the price I wouldn’t frequent it. Service is mediocre at best. It’s definitely a local watering hole and a venue to watch your favorite Bay Area team play. All in all, you can’t argue with their portions, and you can’t expect high quality with the price your paying. Buy a drink, watch your team play, and relax.

This place is great but we waited 2 hours to get our breakfast… by then it should have been lunch.
