Scabby waitresses, poor service, mediocre food. The restaurant itself looks great and has decent charm, but the same dismal faces. Everyone looks depressed and the service… Not good. Look somewhere else.

Went there on Tuesday evening to grab a bite only to find that they were CLOSED. The entire restaurant was empty and the door had a lock box. There was nothing about the location closure on their website.

I typically frequent smaller type places for this category of cuisine, and get the personal experience. I gave them a chance though and happy I did. We are big fans of the salad entrée as well as the pork ramen bowl. Pretty standard but delicious offerings. I also once took the time to try a spicy chef special sushi roll and was very impressed.

Sushi yes? Sushi noooo. Went here for lunch with my wife instead of another sushi joint because we had never been here. Should have went with our first choice. The ideas they have for sushi are sound but the execution is amateurish. The flavors were bland and the rolls were not tight. When I say not tight I really mean loose as loose as my ex girlfriend Tammy’s morals(you were helping those 4 guys find a lost contact? Really? And you were all naked because it would help you feel the contact? Really? Ya sounds legit… cough, cough whore). The albacore was dry and flavorless, the rolls fell apart when you picked them up. The only upside to this depressing soirée was the service. The service was friendly and quick. Our waitress was very helpful and even picked her favorite roll for us to try. She took good care of us when we were there and she showed us kindness and respect that is usually reserved for… strangers eating at a restaurant who are leaving a tip.

I came here on a Saturday night around 7. So I totally expected to wait awhile for a table. The three of us were sat 20 minutes later. Not bad at all considering it was Saturday night. We had enough time to review the menu and decide what we wanted before we were sat. The manager informed us that they only had two servers because of people calling in. But was nice enough to take our orders right then. We ordered 3 different sushi rolls. I wasn’t overly impressed with the quality for the price we paid. Then we had some entrees come out. And they were so so as well. I can tell they were having issues due to being short staffed. But overall the food wasn’t the best and I really can’t judge the service because the circumstance. I am sure I will give them a second chance when I am in the area.

The food was good and the service was stand-out exceptional. I think the strip-mall location is a little deceiving but don’t be fooled, if you’re looking for decent sushi in the south end of the valley, check them out. Great lunch spot!

Mikado is good. The ambiance is nice. The waitress sat down and had a 10 minute conversation with us. Now this is better than a lot of the cheaper sushi places popping up recently that offer 50 percent off rolls. The service was better, and the surroundings are nicer. But man, honestly, I may take a slightly lower product to cut my bill in half. Guess I’m classless. But not a bad place at all.

Everything was a bit heavy and greasy, but tasted very good. The miso soup was very watered down. Finally, the whole place was über cold. Nice wait staff though.

So… this is where my boyfriend got himself into credit card debt when he was a poor college student. Lol He would hate me if he read this. He usually go to Mikado a lot with his college buddies when it opened. pretty much, they tried every dishes on the menu. I remembered first time he took me here during my birthday. The sushi were great and our favorite were the dragon rolls. The sushi chief was a pretty interesting guy to talk to. He told us he worked at the Kobi sushi where Man vs Food tried their spicy sushi. The secret why man won was he had to come back next day to finish up the sushi because 1st time burned his mouth. Also he was making fun of the server used the British accent to flirt with two other girls at the sushi bar because the server only stayed at England for a month. lol We haven’t been there for long time and I was craving some ramen. Koko Kitchen was too far away, so we decided to try Mikado’s ramen. I was disappointed. The Ramen was a bit salty. My boyfriend had teriyaki chicken bowl and disappointingly said, it doesn’t taste good as before. Oh well, the service always good as before. We will be back for more sushi.

We came here for dinner tonight because my daughter kept asking to come here. We ordered a variety of rolls during their happy hour. We had their California roll, Playboy roll, Crunchie Roll and Rainbow roll. We also ordered a couple of bento boxes(regular and surf and turf). For apps, we had a couple orders of gyoza and edamame. All our dishes were good — not great, not bad. The rolls had a lot of rice on them, but that is what I always expect when I order rolls during any happy hour at any Japanese restaurants. The bento box had a lot of food and variety of tempura, rice with your choice of meat and California roll. My son said his beef was good and I tasted my daughter’s chicken. To me, it had way too much butter. Would I come back here again? Only if my daughter asked again. You know, she is my little girl.

What is it really that differentiates the sea of sushi joints now appearing on every corner in this state? For me: consummately fresh fish, well thought-out flavor combos, and superior service. Anything short of this lineup will disappoint, because there are many now providing it to a proper extent. How does Mikado stack up to some of the best(Nagoya, Tsunami, Takashi, etc etc)? We originally tried this Mikado location because some friends had a gift certificate that they generously shared with us. We’ve been back a couple of times since then, and it’s always been A-OK. It’s definitely not my favorite sushi, but it’ll do in a «already in Sandy and don’t want to drive anywhere else» kind of way. First — and foremost — the majority of the sushi is fresh, but the sashimi and nigiri can be slightly«off» on occasion. The Playboy and Vegas rolls are very standard fare, but Mikado goes out on a flavor limb with their Funky Charlie, Saigon, and Chepitos rolls. My personal favorite maki at Mikado is their Fairway roll employing chopped up salmon mixed with sriracha, shichimi togarashi, and scallions. If you’re seeking a Chuck Norris flavor punch in the throat, get this one. Decently priced menu selections, and occasionally great service round out Mikado’s advantages. All in all, if you’re not in a hurry and have plenty of gasoline, drive a little bit further and get great sushi elsewhere for roughly the same prices(or less, even). But if your tummy demands immediate attention, and you’re already in the parking lot, Mikado will probably do nicely. How’s that for a lukewarm commitment?

We were tired from shopping in the area and were in mood for something Japanese, and this place was within walking distance. I figure the same restaurant group that runs Ichiban Sushi near downtown area cannot go wrong here, but I was in for a surprise. After an initial scan of the Unilocal reviews and picture, I was drawn by Jeremy P’s picture of the Sashimi Plate, so I ordered that plus calamari and a roll on the side. The calamari tasted ok, a little too dried due to overcooking. The large sashimi platter in particular, ugh… honestly, I felt like I walked into one of those kitchen nightmare restaurants after seeing it. The best description for the taste was«Sushi from Hell». There was also the roll, which was not even worth mentioning. None of the fish was even fresh, and they all tasted very old. I will let you guys be judge by comparing the two pictures. Even the plating shows a lack of finesse and laziness in the chef. Given that other picture of the sashimi platter was taken two years ago, I imagine things have gone downhill in an extreme manner for Mikado… most likely due cutting corner on quality. Now they just another one of those rip off Japanese restaurants that craps on your food but expect you to pay big bucks for it.

Ok, I’m a little weird about my sushi — and I am a big wimp about trying it when I’m out of town. However, Mikado was offered up as a suggestion and I was willing to try it. I’m glad I did, because this is a great spot for sushi(there are other options as well). There were a ton of kids in the restaurant when we were there, so the atmosphere was a little bit loud and very casual, but it has nice décor and a super friendly staff. The food was all very good — though we definitely ordered too much. The rolls were all delicious and some were really spicy(yum!). The wine selection was very good and they also have quite the sake selection. Overall, a good spot with great food, reasonable prices and a friendly atmosphere and staff. I’d eat there again if I were in the area.

OK food, better Sushi. Some low points. Some high points. Japanese«food» in America tends to be fried, bland and often not very Japanese. Most of the food here was that way. The miso was better than normal. Most of the rest was as expected. We set at the sushi bar for better communication with the chef. Initially, the sushi was pretty standard. Lots of very un-Japanese sushi rolls and pedestrian salmon and tuna. There was plenty of mayo and cream cheese stuff in the roles. That’s not something I like. The fatty tuna was a nice touch that lifted them up, then I saw a small whole fish about 8 inches long like an Italian sardine. The chef made each fillet into a nigiri sushi and had the carcass deep fried to go with the presentation. The perfectly crunchy fried head and bones were wonderful. The nigiri was very tasty. A great way to finish off the meal. Having something good at the end really helps out with the final view of the restaurant.

At you walk into the restaurant, you are reminded of the open spacious layout from the unattended tables on a Friday night. I expected the menu to be more inexpensive but the experience is made up for in food quality. The menu is large with a nice variety of rolls. They say they have a full bar(which is not on display) but was unable to make a long island iced tea though they do have a good beer selection. The service was very good as was the food, but is on the pricy side.

Mikado was, at the very best, lackluster. The place seemed pretty clean and well appointed. My party was stashed in a closet … out of site, and therefore pretty much out of mind for the staff – the server was often absent for long stretches maybe waiting to catch us canoodling in the dark recess. We got some sushi rolls, and I thought to try a bento box for some tempura. It took a while to arrive though the restaurant wasn’t overly full, and let me tell you everything was stark, raving ‘meh’ – except for the bill.

I met my boyfriend here for lunch one slightly snowy April day. Hooray for sushi exploration! Shortly after arriving, we were greeted by our extremely peppy server, who eagerly recommended a few items on the menu. I’ll have to try them sometime. On this day we ordered miso soup(of course!), the sunset roll(which is different than the roll of the same name at Takashi), the red dragon roll, and albacore and sardine nigiri. The miso arrived quickly and was delicious, but we were waiting for about 15 minutes before the manager came out and informed us that the chef«didn’t recommend» the sardine today, so it wasn’t available. We subbed in salmon, the old standby, instead. Some time after that, our food arrived. I would say it was generally worth the wait. The albacore was the highlight for me, super fresh and tender. The salmon was quite good, but not mind-blowing. The sunset roll was good(though I’m starting to think I’m generally not a huge fan of smoked salmon in my sushi), and the red dragon roll was an excellent mix of flavors that really hit the spot. Despite the long wait for our food, service was quite good overall. I also thought the prices were quite good for the quality of food. True, there are better sushi options in the downtown area, but this is a very nice suburban sushi spot. I’d check it out again if I was in the area.
