As a sushi and raw fish enthusiast, despite high reviews for virtually every sushi joint in utah, most of these places really aren’t that hot. However, this place, Wasabi, really has it. The fish carries quality you really only find across the pond(the big one), and the roll art is on point. Aesthetically, the high ceiling really makes up for the relatively small floor space. These owners, when you get to know them will remember your name and do special things for you. Highly recommend. Best in Draper/Sandy easily, maybe in Utah for the price.

First time eating here and was super happy with the all around experience. My boyfriend is from Alaska and so is very picky with fresh seafood/sushi but even he was quite impressed with the quality of food. The waitresses were very attentive, even after it started picking up. the check was priced well for the service we received and we will definitely be returning. Only downfall is because it’s in a strip mall setting, it is small and every time the door opened it was cold for a minute, but even then they had a heater above the door to help so it was tolerable.

The only reason this place isn’t 5 stars is because the service was pretty slow. But the food was AMAZING. I’m traveling for work, and I always find a sushi spot for lunch. It was so good, I went back for dinner! Pay in cash, and you get a small discount!

Don’t come to this place I want it all for myself. Best sushi restaurant in the South Valley.

A few of my co-workers wanted to go out to sushi and this place was suggested. We went on a Wednesday which was great because it’s half off Wednesday. I ordered three rolls and was not disappointed! I got the October roll which is a fried roll with crab it was perfect with some great sauce on top. I also got the California Crunchy roll which was rolled in the crunch and had a nice stack on top! This one had a bit of spice to it that was great. My favorite of the three was the sunset roll. If there is a roll with salmon and lemon in it I always order it. It’s such a nice refreshing roll and Wasabi’s was great! They do have other dishes to order other than sushi. Just looking at other tables it looked really good too. This is a small place so at prime times don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table. I’ll definitely be back!

Awesome sushi. The tnt is where it’s at. Tnt sushi roll come out of fire! Very good quality fish and rice. Been here around 10 times. Love it. Always busy though. It takes sometime to get served though but worth the wait. I’m sure there is better sushi out there but this is close and convenient.

My husband works in this area so I met him for lunch here on a weekday. We waited a good five minutes for a table to be cleaned, which is fine considering it was lunchtime, but they were not very busy. After being sat, we discovered this place had not-so-cheap sushi(around $ 10/roll if you don’t pay cash for the cheaper rolls…) despite looking like a cheap sushi place décor-wise. We waited a good while for our order to be taken, and once it was, we waited a good 30 minutes to actually get the food. Again, this place was not super busy when we went. To top it off, the table next to us was seated well after us and served well before us, and ordered very similar items. This is not something you want to see when you’re starving — and when you’re on a time crunch for your lunch break! When the food arrived, I was seriously underwhelmed. We went with some staples that we order at every sushi place, namely a dragon roll and rainbow roll among with a few house specials that I can’t remember the names of. The fish was sub-par at best and the flavor of the sauces and the rolls overall was just not there. It certainly did not meet the expectation that the price set. On top of that, the waitress had the bus boy do a lot of the serving and following up, which was odd considering she did not look very busy herself. I left still feeling hungry and quite bad that my husband paid for us to have a $ 70 lunch and all we got were 4 sushi rolls and two sodas. I would not go here again, especially if you are looking for a quick, cheap, and decent place to eat on your lunch break.

I loved that they have half price sushi on Tuesdays and Wednesday! It is a slightly smaller menu than the regular choices, but the sushi was pretty good. The playboy was my favorite with a nice fresh taste, and the Alaska roll has a nice strong lemon flavor if you like lemon.

James maki and TNT. Those are the reason I go here and I’ll be back however … the service sucks every single time, and instead of getting better it gets worse. Showed up 5 mins before they opened but door was open so we went in not expecting to be served right away and as we sat a lady rushed to us to tell us they open in 5 min that we had to get up and leave … No big deal maybe they needed the front area for a quick meeting we stepped out. As we came back in 5 min after they opened I asked to sit where we were in the back where we sat previous and she insisted by the front door. Weird but whatever, so we sat and were rushed to finish our food had to ask about drinks a few times because she assumed we were done and even brought out our check but I insisted on dessert which seemed like it bothered her that I asked. Just not good all around. Luckily I crave the James maki so I’ll be back … maybe.

Sushi is good but over priced. We were forced to pay before we even had a chance to eat… not cool, kind of annoying really. Doubt we will go back.

I’ve been here a few times now, for both takeout and dining in. I don’t recommend it for bigger groups because the interior is really small. The first time I dined here was during the winter, and we were seated right by the door. Every time someone came or went, I was blasted with cold air and was miserable. There’s not a lot here for kids, either; luckily, my seven-year-old likes sushi, but she would easily get frustrated with the roll pieces here. They fall apart easily and are rather large, depending on which you get. Today I got a Las Vegas roll and a spicy tuna. The Las Vegas is good, though not the best I’ve had. The Vegas is plentiful on the spicy mayo sauce and the cream cheese; that’s pretty much all I could taste. The spicy tuna roll, on the other hand… I’ll never get that here again. The fish in the center of it was basically some sort of mush, and there was more rice in it than anything else. They also put what appeared to be iceberg lettuce in there as part of the vegetables. I yanked a piece of it out and didn’t eat it. That seems a weird thing to add into a sushi roll. As far as I know, Draper doesn’t have a lot to offer by way of sushi, other than this place and the sushi bar at Cliff House, which is really good and fresh. I’d recommend driving a bit further east to Cliff House over Wasabi, especially during their happy hour, which is Monday through Friday from 4 – 6. If there’s something you want that’s not on the menu, they might be able to make that for you. If I’m in a pinch for sushi, I’d probably go back to Wasabi, but I’d stick to takeout only and wouldn’t experiment with any of their other rolls. I always seem to end up disappointed.

The food was crazy good! The prices were a little steep for the small business & tiny atmosphere. That was my main concern. They do have ½ off Tuesday & Wednesday’s sushi nights although I do not know what rolls it consists of. I wish they had healthier menu options(brown rice rolls, etc. .) but other than that, we had a great time at Wasabi! Servers were friendly & very thing seemed clean & welcoming. Lighting was a little fun but I think that’s normal for most sushi bistros. **Tip: If you have a Wasatch Savings Book you can get BOGO sushi!

As a strip mall sushi restaurant, Wasabi is astonishingly good. We’ve been there many times and after tonight, it’s now our favorite Draper Sushi restaurant. We have had so many wonderful sushi experiences in Salt Lake County, so to rank Wasabi high on our list means a lot. It has a unique«big city» feel. With gigantic images of Tokyo papering the walls, you definitely get a inner city vibe at this place. The dining room is small and one can easily imagine this restaurant being located in a New York City neighborhood or maybe San Francisco — definitely not a strip mall feel. From the time we stepped in the door, we found the staff to be warm and friendly. We were greeted by everyone as though we were well known favorites or regulars(greeting from the servers and the sushi chefs). Before we got to our table we knew we were in for a good experience. Our server was excellent. We found her to be attentive, efficient — aware of what our needs were. We didn’t have to try to get her attention because she was nearby and circulating the room.
The fish was fresh and therefore the rolls were incredible – my main course was made up of four rolls; California, tuna, salmon and spicy yellowtail — delicious! The prices were fair plus we took advantage of a coupon for $ 10 off a $ 50 or larger check. We can hardly wait to go back again and certainly recommend Wasabi for sushi in a part of town with many dining choices. Salute!

Being originally from Southern California I’ve eaten at a few sushi restaurants. Wasabi is bar far the best, freshest sushi restaurant I have found in the Salt Lake Valley. The fish is always fresh, which is important to me because I don’t eat cut rolls with lots of sauce or toppings or anything fried. Wasabi offers all those things, but I prefer just fish with a little rice. The staff is friendly and works hard to provide great service. I think what separates Wasabi from other restaurants, besides the freshness, is the sushi chefs. Every time I’ve been there they have the same chefs, one of who is the owner. I think this helps provide consistent quality sushi every time. I have and will return in the future!

First time here and I came in on my lunch break. I ordered the bento box because the rolls were a little pricey if you’re not with a group. I got a bento box($ 10 @ lunch, not bad) with shrimp & veggie tempura and spicy California roll. It included a small salad, rice and 2 potstickers. Honestly the potstickers were the highlight of my meal. I could have eaten a whole plate. And the tempura was quite good, but the dipping sauce was really what made the tempura awesome. My only complaint would be that with the«shrimp and vegetable tempura» you only got one shrimp and the rest veggies. But oh well, I guess for 10 bucks I can’t complain too much. The California roll was just ok, but that’s because it was just a California roll and it was the only roll with the bento box that looked good. But I will be back to try their happy hour on Tuesday or Wednesday!

This is a nice little sushi place. Not necessarily the BEST I have ever had, but it is always good and they do their best to serve me well. Definitely try the Italian roll!

Wasabi Sushi is a nice addition to this area if you’re in the mood for some Japanese food. It’s not the most authentic, but I’ve never even been to Japan so who am I to judge. The menu features a lot of different sushi rolls which made deciding a bit time consuming, but I appreciate variety. I sampled the Hawaiian Poke($ 8) and it was nothing special. It’s really just a martini glass full of seaweed salad with a couple little pieces of tuna and mango. The Yellow Stone roll featured on the specials chalkboard was okay, but had too much eel sauce for my liking. The highlight of my meal was the James Maki roll which had tuna, jalapeño and cilantro wrapped in rice paper. Overall, I had a decent meal, and might come again if I were in the area.

Sapporo, Kirin, Asahi, and a decent selection of Sake make this strip mall sushi joint fine by me. Their Bento Box Special is only $ 9.95 for lunch and leaves me feeling right every time. My sole«let down» was the Agedashi Tofu appetizer. The soy broth was not to me liking but it could have been the serving temperature(barely warm) more than anything.

This place is pretty gimmicky. A lot of rolls with cream cheese, a lot with tempura-fried shrimp and crab; shoot, even one with fried potatoes and one with teriyaki steak. Big on gimmicks but short on fresh fish. The place was packed(it’s pretty small) and the service was excruciatingly slow. However, I could have easily forgiven poor service had the sushi made up for it. But it didn’t. The TNT Maki was served wrapped in tinfoil and on fire, literally. There were blue flames(a la a bunsen burner), shooting up on either side of the roll. It would have been a nice touch had the roll not tasted like kerosene. The Snow roll was covered with so many tempura crumbs you couldn’t even see what was underneath until you dug a bit. And the Kill Bill? It had potential until I realized the tuna on top was paper thin; the only things I tasted were sliced lime and siracha. Gimmicky. I was happy to see a sushi place come to town that is relatively close to my home; but after tasting what they have to offer, I’m more than happy to deal with a longer drive.

We loved coming during«Happy hour» weekday due to 50% off on certain sushi which include our favorite sushi… They called it «dynamite or fire cracker»… This sushi is literally«on fire» because the chef puts liquor on top of the sushi and set the sushi on fire. It gives a very nice smoky smell and taste … You got to try this !
