Place was decent, not the best. They had a live band playing during dinner. They have little mini cornbreads with peppers in them that are to die for! I do think its the best cornbread I’ve ever had *drool* I ordered the jambalaya as mild & it came out spicyyy! I love spicy but dang it was super spicy. Our waiter was as helpful as he could be, but our food took forever to come out. I’m not too sure if I’d come back.

I believe that this restaurant may have closed. We went there on a Tuesday evening, when, according to the website, they are open, at 7:00 pm. Door were closed, lights were off, not a soul in site. The online-calendar was not updated for the month of November, maybe that should have been our clue.

Yea, never again. The only thing that saves this restaurant 1 ½ stars is the great customer service and waiter we had — he was funny, attentive, quick(a little pushy at times but very kind about it) and if he didn’t know an answer to a menu question, honestly admitted and came back right away. He seemed new so we couldn’t ding em for that. However, the food and the music was another story… The lady and I came here with the LivingSocial deal for a dinner and a movie date. We were greeted by a guy(also our server) who seated us next to where the band was warming up. The band, once they got going, were amazingly distracting and way too loud for a dinner scene. Plus, they sucked. Our waiter, the only bright spot on the evening, explained our deal to us so we went ahead and ordered the fried pickles and 2 glasses of merlot, plus an extra appetizer of crab cakes because we were starving. The pickles came out piping hot and had a very light and crunchy batter surrounding them. Nice way to start. The crab cakes tasted decent but were a little cold which turned me off to them. The merlot wasn’t bad but I gave both glasses to my lady and had a Jameson and coke. We put our order in for the ½ rack of ribs and the tri-tip. As we tried to finish our appetizers, they brought out some of their pepper cornbread. My girlfriend loves cornbread and she wasn’t pleased with the graininess of the bread. Everything came out pretty quickly as the place was near empty. The ribs were terrible! Extremely dry and lacked even a hint of flavor! The tri-tip I could do better myself at home(one of the ways I judge BBQ is if it tastes better than my home-cooked). Overall, I was severely disappointed with the meats. The sides of potatoes and veggies were also mehhh. The waiter was fully attentive and kept our water glasses full. He offered us dessert but we just wanted to get away from the music and the musty smell of oil so we skipped. We will not go back.

We went here for the living social deal. I honestly thought it was okay but not great or terribly bad. We get 1 appetizer, the fried cat fish nuggets and they were okay with the sauce they gave us. Then we get only 1 choice in terms of what white wine(chardonnay) and one red(merlot) if you didn’t like those you were out of luck. We got one of each to try it out. Definitely the chardonnay tasted cheap but the merlot surprisingly was decent. We ordered half rack of bbq ribs and the ribs came with your chosen sides. I chose potatoes and veggies. The ribs were okay but again not great. I’ve had better ribs many times in the past where the meat falls off the ribs this one didn’t do that. It seemed slightly over cooked. The potatoes weren’t anything to talk about neither were the veggies. My date got the jambalaya and it was bland as hell. You can definitely tell if the restaurant was an authentic one based on their home dishes and jambalaya was miserably butchered here. There was no music on this particular night. I’m not sure how that works at this restaurant. every other Saturday? etc? On their sign it said live music 7pm-9pm but no specific dates. Maybe it’s when they’re a little busier. it was pretty dead when we were here. The Waitress was nice enough and made sure to give us extra napkins and refill our waters and was attentive. All in all, not great food but for someone needing some decent food this is okay.

Update! Went there on Thursday last week to use my LivingSocial deal. The deal included 2 glasses of wine, appetizer, and 2 entrees. I called the day before and made reservations for 2 at 6pm. Soo we get there at 6 and immediately the waitress opened the front door for us and took us to our booth. I can’t remember her name but she was very friendly. There was like one other table occupied there, super empty, but more groups trickled in after a while. Got us started off with water and 2 glasses of white wine. We ordered the fried pickles appetizer, which came out pipin’ hot, and pretty good, and the sauce they brought with it was delicious also. While we waited on the food we also snacked on the mini cornbreads. probably could have eaten a few more baskets of those lol. So we were waiting for our food and the waitress came around and asked if we were ready for our entrees. I was kind of surprised by that because number one that makes me wonder how long its been ready and its just sitting up there, but at the same time I liked it because sometimes restaurants will bring out the entrees when you’ve only JUST gotten your appetizer, which is annoying. Soo… i’ll let you decide on that one. Anyway, I ordered the hot link po’ boy sandwich with cajun fries and my date ordered the hot link/chicken jambalaya SPICY. My sandwich was really good, but it could have used more sauce, I felt like the bread was a little dry sooo minus one star. I tried his jambalaya and it was delicious, and super spicy. too spicy for me, but he liked it a lot. The waitress was attentive to us the whole time, and she informed us they have live music on the weekends, And another gentleman(I’m assuming is the owner) came by to check on us also to make sure we were enjoying our experience. She escorted us out and opened the door for us as we left and even remembered my name when she said goodbye lol So overall, food was good, service was great, friendly inviting atmosphere. We will be back for the live music and more tasty food :)

I’m giving it 3 stars because that’s the intermediate between 1 and 5, both of which it deserves. The jambalaya was the dullest thing I have ever had. The catfish appetizer, however, was utterly divine. Perfectly cooked and so incredibly tasty.

We went on a Thursday night, late. The menu was limited, but the food was excellent! Even better, the live blues band was superb. I have a cold, but still had to get up & dance :) It was definitely loud, so if you’re looking for quiet you may want to go elsewhere… but if you’re looking for good food and great music, don’t miss this place!

We tried the place out based mainly on the positive Unilocal reviews & were not disappointed. We walked in the door at 6:45ish on a Sat. night & the place was empty so I’m glad I’d seen positive reviews or we would have left. To start, we got a basket of mini sweet corn cakes served warm. I had a combo plate, tri-tip & a hot link served w/potato salad, my husband had the jambalaya. Tri-tip was so-so, hot link good, potato salad SUPERGOOD!!! Nice portion too, just about right. Hubby’s jambalaya was a huge portion & quite spicy, he seemed pleased. Service was friendly, we chatted a bit w/one of the owners & by the time we left, there were 3 more tables of customers. I’ll go back… they’ve got fried pickles on the menu & I’ve just got to try them!

I’ve been dying to try this place for months and finally gave it a try a few weeks ago. It was very tempting to choose from because they had a House of Soul food right next door. We went in and got seated right away. I was expecting to see a crowd because it was lunch time and I thought there would be that«work lunch crowd». But I was wrong. There were only a hand full of people. On the positive note, they had live music going on, but on the down fall, they only had the singer and a guy on the drums and switched off to his guitar. Off to the reviews with the food. My bf ordered a chicken poor boy sandwich, his mom ordered the shrimp poor boy sandwich, his dad ordered the red beans, sausage and rice, I ordered the jambalaya. Overall, the taste wasn’t bad but not yet the greatest. Portions were pretty small for the price. Their corn muffin were pretty good. I just wished they had a variety of beignets on their menu, I was really looking for that to eat.

This place makes Southern food accessible for even the pickiest of eaters(me!). For instance, they have chicken breast two ways, blackened or fried. I’ve always stayed away from ordering fried chicken at other restaurants because I can’t stand eating meat off of a bone. But I went for it here, and it was delicious! The side veggies are great also. I hear their fried pickles are a must-have, and we ordered one for the table. Everyone liked them(but, of course, I don’t like pickles either). Otherwise, they have a bunch of traditional Southern food — my tablemates ordered gumbo and étouffée and enjoyed them. They also offer those traditional dishes vegetarian style, which is great(because I’m not going anywhere near crawfish!). OMG their cornbread is amazing! Just a touch of jalapeño flavoring. And it comes free, like chips at other restaurants, and comes with limitless refills. Nearly every dinner entrée runs $ 10 — $ 15, which is not bad for a sit-down restaurant, and the portions are generous. Definitely a place to try!

Went there on Friday night, The food was so good! We ordered the gumbo and oyster sandwich with Cajun Fries. The oyster was so fresh and not really greasy even its deep fried. They have live music from Tuesday to Saturday, the night we went music was mainly Blues and old rock n roll(mainly from 70′ and 80′) and when the mood strike, people will go to the front and start dancing! It’s really fun place to go and relax after work! The whole atmosphere makes you forget you are in the bay area. Definitely will go back again! One suggestion to the owner: they can put their band schedule on their website with a bit bio about each band, this way they can promote the restaurant and the local band.

I came here with my friends because the House of Soul Food next door was closed that day. The food is a little pricey for such mediocre quality and the restaurant ambiance wasn’t too impressive. We went in around lunch time and there was only one server so our food took a while. I ordered the jambalaya which I expected to be of a stew consistency and my friend ordered the seafood gumbo. When our food arrived we were both surprised that my jambalaya was more soupy and his gumbo was more stewey. My food was satisfactory but I didn’t think there was anything special about it. My friend didn’t find his gumbo to be too impressive either. Our other friend ordered a country fried chicken sandwich and her side of cajun fries were pretty good. The only impressive thing about this restaurant is the cornbread mini muffins! They are so amazing! There are itty bitty chunks of jalapenos in them so they have a little bit of heat and they taste even better with a little butter spread over it. Our server was really nice and gave us a second basket upon request. I think they’re probably baked fresh because she said we had a wait a little bit before they were ready and they came out all warm and soft. The only reason I would come back to Bluz would be to snack on the yummy cornbread mini muffins and their cajun fries…

Came in by myself around 3:30 there was three other tables seated and eating. I was told I could sit anywhere. I seated myself and was promptly given a menu. I ordered chicken tenders. Which starts with a chicken breast cut into strips then hand rolled in cajun spices then fried. I asked for them spicy and they were mild at best. I spoke with the cook afterwards and I let him know the strips were good which they were and I like to sweat when I eat spicy food. He said«Awwe man if I would’ve know I would’ve threw a little something extra in there.» I also enjoy some free corn bread muffins which were right out of the oven. Probably some of the best corn bread I’ve ever had. And I LOVE corn bread. I was also given four more muffins to take home. The service was prompt and polite. The food was served hot just missing the spice that’s why my review is missing a star.

At first glance, this doesn’t look like much, but its a hidden hold mine! Nightly music, happy hour M-TH 3 – 7, and fantastic food. I had the ettoufe an fried oysters. Husband had the shrimp poboy and fried pickles. Im not a huge fan of cornmeal dredge but it tasted pretty goosd– maybe a little more salt on the oysters and shrimp. But the ettoufe was the star of the show! Service was fantastic and music had SOUL! Clean and comfy. Just a fun place.

Great Music the night I went. A 14 year old joined the band to jam and he shredded it up. I ordered the Catfish. It came with asparagus and«red» potatioes. They weren’t red. The only flaw. I wouldn’t go outta my way to get back but not bad.

I was feeling kinda blue yesterday. Stressful work week topped off by missing the SF Giant’s home opener because of said lame work week. So, when it came to deciding where to dine out I needed something fun. Something different. Something to chase my blues away. Well, BBY successfully cheered me right up! What chased my blues away last night you ask? Let me tell you: ***********************CAJUNFOOD************************************ ~ Cute, little, delicious cornbread muffins with some hidden jalapenos inside for a kick. Watch out… addictive. ~ Fried Pickles… say what??? Must admit, my fav! ~Spicy Jambalaya ~Swamp Water — YUM! Basically a Long Island Iced Tea touched up with some Louisiana charm and sure to make everything more cheery. ***********************SERVICEWITH A SMILE************************* Southern hospitality style service. Definitely felt more like friends than a customer/server relationship. Our server was named Savannah. Even if it was made up, how adorable is that?!? ***********************LIVEZYDECCOMUSIC************************** Live music put EVERYONE in a good mood. The band was so much fun! If you get a chance, check ‘em out! I don’t know of many places where you can dine and get live music in the South Bay. Awesome! Definitely a new favorite spot. We were already talking about taking some family & friends there soon. Thank you BBY for turning my frown upside down ;)

Great beer selection(Abita FTW!). Live Music. Good menu. Spicy food. A recipe for success hopefully. My wife and I recently gave this place a shot out of pure curiosity. Thankfully it panned out. I had 4 beers here, the Abita Purple Haze, the Abita Turbodog, Abita SOS and finally the Abita Andygator. Each had their own charm and flavor profile. I liked them all. The food was quite good too. We shared the chicken strips which were delightfully seasoned and served with a cajun style ranch sauce. The wife had a jambalaya which turned out to be just a bit too spicy for her, and I went with the red beans and rice. Both turned out delicious and the portion were big enough to spread into lunch the next day. We didnt get to hear the live music, but we’ll come back for that. I want to go back soon for more purple haze and a po’boy.

My curiosity drove me here. I was waiting in line next door… talking to a friend and a fellow Unilocaler who was there too! I’d didnt get his name but he was a Unilocaler. Yay! A fellow Unilocaler busy checking in like moi! Well I digress! We wnt in to BBY and was greeted seated and served by a staff who I’m sure was at one point diagnosed with ADD. he was talking to us looking at people coming in and doing other things. Whew! IMHO the staff looks like he was afraid that he won’t be able to greet the people coming in and get them to stay. So in other words he was trying to take our order, greet people and puff his chest. No bueno! I had the Gumbo. I’m not very happy with it to say the least. It was salty but at the same time it tasted pretty bland. All I tasted was the sauce and did not bite into anything solid at all. Grandma food. Ewwww! Our food came pretty fast tho and the waiter explained that it was pre– made that’s why. He volunteered that info. I didn’t have to twist his arm. The saving grace that night was the live band that we found out plays there every Thursday. Awesome group. Them I will come back for and just head straight to the bar in the back. Since this is my first time here I will say maybe I will get some food again. But for now the bar sounds more attractive! Place is clean-tons of parking and close to me. So I will make an effort to support biz in the area.

noticed this place after eating next door at the soul food place. it was kinda empty for lunch so getting a table was no problem at all. we were given cornbread to start off with. i liked the cornbread a lot. it had bits of maybe bell pepper or jalapeño. added nice flavor. i had the shrimp po boy and i was super happy with my choice. the shrimp by itself would be kinda salty but its really good with everything else. i put it in the jambalaya and it was reallllly good. lol. the cajun fries remind me of KFC’s potato wedges. i will definitely be back!

Came here on a Monday night and with House of Soul Food closed, I figured that Bluz By You is a good alternative as any other option. Dining room was completely empty but there were a few people in the bar which was pretty much the only lit area in the restaurant. After sitting at a bar table and seeing the«soft menu», I finally understood that this place is getting started and work in progress. OK… so with my expectations in check, we ordered the jambalaya and the gumbo. Ordered both of them spicy too just to see where the kitchen set their spiciness level. Both dishes came out served in modest bowls with rice served with each dish and small corn muffins as well. The gumbo was a decent spice level… just about enough to start a modest fire within my mouth. There was a fair amount of meat but I could had used a bit more rice. I didn’t see a bar menu of specialty drinks so I got a pint of Shiner Bock. Maybe they didn’t have the bar menu ready so whatever. The bar area definitely had more appeal than the dining room. All in all, they are on the right track and hopefully things will be busier and a lot more busy the next time I roll around here.
