I went to the Ye Olde Royal Oak Pub with some girlfriends of mine and the beer was flat and the food was cold and undercooked. Sometimes they have some good bands there on the weekends. I am glad that they changed it back to the Coleman Still again because the food and beer is better now.

Best bar in Santa Clara! Trivia night on Tuesdays is always a good time and they have live music every weekend. Great imported beers on tap and excellent speedy service. Keep us drinking Royal Oak!

It was great as the Royal Oak, but looking forward to checking it out as the second coming of the Coleman Still. The Coleman Still will be opening this evening between 5 and 6.

3.5 Stars … Came here a few times for the trivia night on Tuesday nights with some friends and it seemed a bit hit or miss. Lets start with the beer selection, it was kind of limited given the fact that its a pub, pub for me equals more beers less fro-fro drinks. The bar service ranges from quick to down-right snail’s pace, you wonder where the bartender has disappeared to sometimes even when you go to the bar. The waitress service was slow too, but friendly. The food is nothing to jump for joy for as between an order of shepard’s pie, corned beef and cabbage and the daily special«scottish bridie» was a mixed bag, ranging from too salty to better than average. The entrees were not expensive with all of the food we ordered in the $ 10 mark. The trivia on a week to week basis swings in terms of difficulty from easy to head scratching. Overall, I would go back at some point but its just too far for me to go on a regular basis, the«daily special» if they rotated it around so on Tuesdays its not the same thing than it would be great too as the same pub food goes bland really quick.

I only go here on nights that the Cocktail Monkeys are playing, so this review isn’t for any other night. I love coming here. I believe it’s the old owners of the King’s Head that run this place. I always loved King’s Head(RIP), and I love this place. Plenty of dancing room, which is good when I’m going to see Cocktail Monkeys. Drinks are good and strong and not badly priced. My tab for three people the other night was only $ 50. Bartenders are extremely friendly, if you’re nice they’ll even make you their own special recipes, on the house. I’d recommend checking out the next time the Cocktail Monkeys are playing and make your way out there! I’m sure other nights are fun too. I’ll have to check it out sometime…

Went there today on the way to Costco… Spent a few min’s walking round looking at the stuff on the walls, pretty cool stuff… I’m English, so was interested to see how well it fared… The waitress was great, she was from Dublin in Ireland, I have friends there, so we hit it off on that note. We both ordered the Sausage rolls, chips &HEINZ beans(my favorite). About 15 mins later, the food arrived, we tasted it… The beans were NOT Heinz(trust me on this one) the meat in the sausage rolls was off & the chips were still half frozen… Needless to say, we left, and will NEVER go back again… Trials Pub downtown wins hands down…

What depressing part of London have people gone to that they think the Royal Oak is an authentic English pub? The owner is so sweet and a great supporter of the local community, and there’s the one star. Have eaten here twice(per friend’s choosing and was unavoidable) and the food was ‘ok-ish’ but I certainly wouldnt choose this place if the decision was left to me. Its just a dank, disheartening bar where the employees from Costco and some local freaky-deakys hang out. The place could really do with a facelift, and some zealous interior designing to give it some real English panache. A few flags, a picture of the Queen and wooden furniture just isnt going to cut it. It has potential. but just not quite getting it…

My aunt and uncle rave about this place so much and today we went to go have lunch there. I think the atmosphere was really laid back on a typical Sunday. Good ol’ American football. Hahahaha. The lady there was so nice and the food was more than what I expected. I ordered a Black & Tan(half Guinness and Half Harp Lager) and I thought that it looked pretty cool since the Guiness was floating at the top. Not to mention that it was really good! I also ordered the Fish & Chips with Mashed Peas. I loved the Mashed Peas and the Fish and Chips hit the spot. I thought I would be getting several filets of fish. WRONG! I got a big filet of fish and the batter was crunchy, even when i added the lemon and malt vinegar. Although it was a bit too greasy for me, the fish was cooked good. And the fries were just the right size and portion for me :)

Any place that can raise my spirits with spirits after a spiritless experience at Oktoberfest is my kind of place! Did I ever mention that London is one of my favorite places in the world? Well, this place isn’t really like the pubs in London, style-wise, but they have the same beers on tap and the same pub food. That’s good enough for me! Great vibe and totally laid-back. They even had British football(soccer) on. This place is ten times better than the Brit(which really isn’t British at all). I may even become a regular. Loved it!

Went here for Trivia night on Tuesday — SOMUCHFUN! It’s off the beaten path, but that also makes it a lot nicer of a venue… not vying for a spot at the bar to get a drink and then a good strong drink served by a friendly bartender awards them 5 stars.

How Exciting, my first post! Ok so I’ve only been here 2 times, both Tuesday nights, due to the fact that my friend’s friend hosts trivia night. The owner, SAM, is a delight. He will accommodate your beer needs and makes sure that you’re going to like what you ordered. The place is very authentic and very fun. The menu has very British options, meaning bangers and mushy peas… make up your own mind here. Trivia night is a lot of fun except for the rude girl host. She thinks that everyone is cheating and reads off the questions like a cheesy 70’s television host… actually a lot worse than that. If you’re looking for a fun place to drink good beer with good friends then Ye Olde Royal Oak Pub is it. They even offer fun drinks like Black Velvet… it’s a mixture of Guiness and cider. Shark Something is Harp and cider. Clean and fun!

My parents’ wedding anniversary was on Tuesday, but Tuesday evenings my father and brother have practice with the chorus they sing with, so we decided that Monday lunch would be a good time to all get together to celebrate their 41 years of marriage. I had a restaurant in mind, but then found out it’s closed on Mondays. So I did a bit of Unilocaling and every other idea I had of somewhere to eat was either closed on Mondays, closed for the holiday, or only opened for dinner service. Argh! Finally I stumbled upon this pub — I clicked the link to their website, had a look at the menu, and was overjoyed to see they offer a ploughman’s lunch! Talk about authentic pub-like menu items! So we made plans to meet here for a late lunch on Monday. When we walked it, we were truly amazed at the décor. This place LOOKS like an English pub. The stuff on the walls is interesting and varied, and my parents(who are both English) had some fun pointing out things to the rest of the family. We got our menus and that’s when I saw they had a lunch with a sausage roll, Heinz beans, and chips! WOO! I wasn’t the only one excited to see that on the menu — of 8 of us there, 5 of us ordered that(and none of us ordered the ploughmans!) Better yet, the sausage roll was authentic — great sausage, puff pastry, just the right texture and taste! I was in heaven. Dessert was an apple crumble that was lovely, not too sweet(although the crumble wasn’t crisp enough) with custard(which had lumps in it but tasted fine otherwise). The waitress was nice, attentive, and seemed to find us more amusing than not(there were some animated discussions going on at our table!) and we weren’t given any«hurry you out the door now that you’ve paid» feeling either. Which is good, because we really didn’t hurry out the door! Minus one star for the slowness of the kitchen(seriously, we were hungry when we got there and just about dead from starvation by the time the food finally arrived), but the ambiance, menu, and staff made up for that — I will definitely be going back for lunch — and next time I’ll definitely give the ploughman’s a try!

«Ill take a Smithwicks» «No Smithwicks? Then whys there a large Smithwicks sign right there?» points to large Smithwicks sign on wall. «Ok…Ill take a Carlsberg» «No Carlsberg? Then whys there a large Carlsberg sign right there?» points to large Carlsberg sign on wall. «Ok Ok Ill take a Bulmers» «No…» Ever seen a grown man cry? Davids bottom line– Yeah minus one star for having beers on the wall they dont serve(you tease) BUT I love this place. Tuesday is trivia night and we always try and make it. Cottage pie anyone? Winning team gets $ 50 bucks off their tab!!! Hows that for useful?

Cute little shack. As soon as we walked in and were about to sit down, the owner helped us grab seats. He’s an older Englishman and is so very sweet! I came to listen to my friend’s band, Redwood, and the way the venue is makes the music seem a lot louder. The beer mix(with beer of course) is pleasing to the palate. Overall, this is a relaxing and cozy place for decently priced beers on tap.

We have been to Ye Olde Royal Oak numerous times now, with a group of friends or just the two of us. I would rate it very highly due to the friendliness of the owners and staff, the great food and, sometimes, live«pubby» music. We even have found a little niche where we always sit. The only problem we have had is the loudness of the music later at night. We try to go early before the groups start playing. May Ye Olde Royal Oak Pub last for many, many years and get better and better as time passes.

I’m confused… this place got mostly good reviews, so I feel a little bit bad for what I’m about to write. Ok, I’m just kidding. I don’t really feel so bad for writing a poor review. I just like to think I have a conscience. We stopped by here on a Saturday night because we were in the mood for some good old pub food. Well, this was certainly not the place for that. Maybe I just don’t have a good appreciation for their food, but I was incredibly disappointed. I got the corned beef and cabbage, since that seemed like a pretty safe bet. How can you mess up corned beef and cabbage? Oh well, let me tell you: by overcooking the corned beef. They even sliced it super thin in the hopes of making it easier to chew, but it failed miserably. Yeah… I didn’t know that corned beef could be so tough and chewy. What’s so sad is that I ate two or three pieces and then just gave up, sending an almost full portion of corned beef to the trash(there was NO goddamn way we were taking that crap home!). Now, before you tell me that maybe I just don’t understand corned beef and cabbage, I have to say that I’ve eaten a TON of the stuff(both homemade and at pubs) and I surely know the difference between tender, fall-apart-in-your-mouth corned beef and this weird tough cardboard stuff they tried to tell me was corned beef. Maybe I do have a conscience. I feel a little bad for writing a bad review of their food, because the people working there were really nice and kept an eye on our table without being overbearing. They also did a good job of keeping our beers full. I wouldn’t mind going there for a few beers, but I don’t think we’ll be back for the food.

Any place that calls itself a British pub better have some Boddingtons, or not only will they be denied my patronage, but I will talk shit about them until I’m blue in the face. Luckily for Ye Olde Royal Oak Pub, they have my beloved brew on tap. Lives are spared and reputations have been saved. My friend and I tried this place out on a Tuesday night. The quiz was in full swing when we arrived, and had I known about it, I would’ve learned the names of all the New Kids On The Block before I left the house. I didn’t get a chance to try the food, but I am insane about British food so I can’t wait to. My favourite colour is mushy pea green, so let’s hope I can see some of that in the near future. The crowd was a bit confusing; there were a few post-work crowd techies, some people who looked like pub or quiz enthusiasts, and a large contingency of older men. This is all fine and dandy, but I’m certainly not going to look for a date here. My old men fantasies are limited to Alan Rickman and Anthony Bourdain(doesn’t make sense, I know), and the whole techy thing just doesn’t do it for me. I will stick to Trials where I can drool over the hot biker gang that comes in on Thursdays. I used to live in Kansas, where every restaurant is a steakhouse. The décor totally threw me for a loop because when I walked in, all I could think of was barbeque sauce and steaks. It’s decidedly un-pub like, and when no one is seated in the dining area, it takes on an awkward cavernous feel. Minus a star for that. Most notably, the barmaid was terrifically friendly. I will come back just to talk to her. Oh, and the name is too long-I just call it Ye Old Pubby-pub.

I went here with my ex, who happens to be associated with the propriators via his best friend. Typically, we would have just headed to the King’s Head Pub, but we decided to support a newly upstarted business. The setting is more along the lines of a sports bar than a British pub, but even still the food and drinks were amazing. I had the Cottage Pie(the equivalent of a Shephard’s Pie, only yummier because it’s loaded with cheese on top) and he had the Corned Beef and Cabbage, which was excellent. We loved the Swithwick’s, even though in a bottle, it was lovely to have a change of scene from the usual dull tap house beers. Very clean, very personal. I love the fact that the bartender, crew and owner’s were willing to come and spend some time chatting with us and mixing with the crowd. A great environment for a comfort meal with more than plenty liquor selection. I would most definitely come again, though it would be nice if our waiter had recognized that we were friends of the owner and not pretend that my questions were an inconvenience.

Initial review, just for the bar and a couple of drinks… and bartenders. Some buddies and I stopped in here for a couple of drinks to celebrate a friend’s belated birthday. Of course, it being a Wednesday night, I wouldn’t have expected the place to be busy or whatnot. At 8:30pm, we were almost the only people in the joint. S’alright by me. There was The Cure playing on the soundsystem, snowboarding on one TV, and MMA on another. And then… there was Adrianna and Chantalle(?)… =) I liked this place; it probably had something to do with the two cuties, Adrianna and Chantalle(?), who tended bar and chatted us up. Okay. It had everything to do with Adrianna and Chantalle(?). What can I say? I’m a sucker for cute girls who pour drinks and talk it up with quick one-liners and witty repartee. Yes, I’m easy… 2 Heinekens(bottled), 1 New Castle(tap), 1 Gin and Tonic, 1 Stella w/Rose’s Lime = $ 24… not bad, yeah? This coming Tuesday(10÷23÷07) is going to be the first Trivia Night(what self respecting Pub doesn’t have a trivia night, right?), so I’m definitely going back again… Maybe try some food. Likely have more drinks. +1 for the lovely bartenders… +1 for Stella on tap and Smithwick’s(even if its in a bottle)… +1 for Hendrick’s Gin… +1 for the lovely bartenders… again… HA! … did I mention the bartenders?
