I like this place! The burgers are good, salad is great and beers are good! Cute atmosphere too!

The place has a clean faux industrial look which is kinda fun and unusual for Santa Cruz. The beer is really good. The food tastes pretty good but will definitely kill you. I ate one of their hamburgers and it was so fatty I could feel my arteries screaming!

Service is 10 out of 10. Great atmosphere. Terrific beer and food was amazing. I had the cheeseburger with bacon and avocado. It is one of the best burgers I have ever had. The beef was so fresh and flavorful. Wife had the chicken sandwich and, by the time I asked for a bite, she finished it. Needless to say she loved it. Daughters had the flatbread and the Cesar salad. They loved them too. As tourists from out of town I’m sorry we can’t come back soon but I will come back on my next visit through Santa Cruz.

Good beer and the ham flatbread was ok. The tomato& avocado salad was small, overpriced, swimming in gravy and served with no bread or etc. The burger was ok but very greasy. Good«french» coffee.

Nice casual vibe. The food are great and service okay. A bit slow but the services are knowledgeable about the food. Flatbread pizza was tasty as was the fried chicken. I would definitely go back.

The aesthetic of this place is gorgeous if you’re into the industrial chic look with hardwood and concrete throughout. Not to mention the little hanging succulent and air plant terrariums scattered throughout. And the cute semi-private booths, and the couch/lounge-y sitting area in front of a giant fireplace. West End is tucked away in the back corner of a little strip mall area with several wineries, an art gallery and knick knack/antique-y shops. It’s also right around the corner from a «community store»(which I took to mean co-op, but it looks almost identical to a Whole Foods inside, so who knows). However, the food here isn’t anything necessarily to write home about(not that it’s BAD, just… not mind-blowing), and the price leaves me a little put off about coming back. Boyfriend and I paid $ 40 for a fried chicken sandwich, a beachified, American version of banh mi, and a pint of beer. That’s a little steep for just okay food in a nice venue, in my opinion.

Popcorn & calamari are a MUST. Roasted organic chicken salad was delicious and huge! The soup and salad of the day was also a huge portion and super delicious. 16ish beers on tap. And 2 wine taps. Great vibe inside, super cool interior design. We will definitely be back next time we’re in SC.

Wow this place has awesome interior design. Very big warehouse space, with a variety of seating options, from tables outside and inside to these intense oval shaped booths in the middle. We were seated immediately and ordered our drinks and a cheese board. I’m not big on hard cheese but my friends really seemed to enjoy the board. My friend actually ended up ordering the salmon board to be her full meal, they are that filling. I got the lemonade and the fried chicken sandwich. It comes on a challah bun with with greens. Kind of wish it could come with a side of fries like the burger, but oh well. The chicken was really juicy and fresh, lots of flavor with every bite. Only complaint was that the sauce left the bottom of the bun really soggy. But I ate so quickly that I was able to catch it all before it fell apart in my hands. The service was very attentive and friendly, shout out to our waiter Sterling! Would definitely recommend this place, can’t wait to try the rest of their menu.

I was hoping for a more casual vibe for the dinner before our big wedding day. We had a small party, 7 people — just our immediate family. We made a reservation, but once we arrived, we still had to wait. Once we sat down, they took our drink order a bit slow, and I had a few impatient people really wanting water — and with ICE. They didn’t serve their water cold at all, which I found odd. We ordered some of the pickled veggies to start. Which came out in a small bowl, and I had to ask for small plates so we could eat the dish. Maybe they were just off their game that night? I felt things were a little«off». I ordered up a sampler of their beer — 8 different variations, which was fun to drink and test out. I was eyeing the burger and I surprised myself because I found other items to be just as delicious but my gut said burger and fries! Others had the flatbreads, big salad and the rest, THEBURGER. Lemme just tell you that West End Tap & Kitchen makes the best fries I have ever had. Perfectly crisp, done in the middle potatoes and seasoned with a little salt. They were addicting little crack sticks. I swear to you, order the fries! Our waitress even told us the secret! They spray the fries with a potato starch before thrown in the fryer. Whaaaaaaaa?

Very comfortable outdoor seating, as inside had too much noise to converse. We had beers and snacks. A disappointing cheese plate, not very elegant. The fried calamari was done right and included jalapeño. The olives were very tasty, much nicer than those at Bantam. Overall, for a quick get together it met our needs and service was excellent.

We stopped by here to have lunch to celebrate our youngest son’s birthday. His choice by the way, he really enjoys a good burger and fries. He said he recalls how yummy both were the last time we had come here almost two years ago. Wow, it must have been good for him to remember! We sat in the outdoor patio since the weather was perfect in Santa Cruz. Casual, chill atmosphere, and family friendly. Decent beer selection, good food full of flavor and made with fresh ingredients! Their portion of their dishes are decent as well. Not to mention the staff is attentive and friendly. Legit as my husband would say. My husband and I split the ham and cheese sandwich/side salad and the roast beef and smoked cheddar flatbread. –The ham and cheese sandwich is not your typical ham and cheese, this was made with Niman ranch smoked ham, bacon, brie, wild arugula and maple aioli but I felt like I could have made this at home although my husband said it was pretty good. –Roast beef and smoked cheddar flatbread was delicious, packed with flavor and texture, my fave of the two dishes we had. Made in a wood fire oven, Herb béchamel for the sauce(subtle hints of rosemary), marinated artichokes, pickled mustard seed, and chili flakes. Now for what the kids ordered: Our son ordered the –burger and fries. He said the burger was juicy, pretty big and just loves the battered crispy fries with their in house made ranch. We all tried the fries with the ranch and confirmed the fries were all that my son raved about. Our daughter had the –cherry tomato flatbread. She said it was just«eh, ok, kind of plain but I figured as much since it’s highlight was the charred cherry tomatoesz This flatbread is topped with parmesan cheese, fresh mozzarella, basil and oregano. Nothing really stands out on the description of the dish so no surprise there. Drinks– Husband had the –Eureka IPA– pine trees mixed with black currant, sticky dankness, subtle notes of grapefruit, and dark stone fruits sneak through this single hop IPA. I had the –Uncommon Brewers Long Form Tripple– Belgian style triple brewed with long peppers. 10.2%ABV. Deliciously refreshing and complex flavors. Son had the –Hermitage craft beer– he said it was a bit too sweet for his taste. No dessert since we had plans to hit up a creamery in Santa Cruz.

What a great and lively place to hang out with friends! We came here for dinner on a Thursday night at 7pm and there was a 15 minute wait. The hostesses at the front seemed a bit rude but our waiter was so amazing and helpful! We ordered a house sampler flight, Monterey bay calamari, and roasted chicken salad– all to share. They have huge portions! Those were more than enough for 2 people. The calamari came with jalapeños(yum!!) it was perfect together and it was very crunchy! The roasted chicken salad was a large portion as well, it was very tasty and light yet filled us up. I don’t know what dressing they used but I really enjoyed it! The downside to this restaurant was that it got pretty loud for dinner. Lunch time isn’t as loud, but the main dining area is between the bar area and the open kitchen, so you have to yell pretty loud to have a conversation. It’s great and lively for groups, but if you’re trying to have an intimate dinner, a conversation can get pretty difficult. Other than that, I will definitely be back for the delicious food and beer! It was about $ 46 total for 2 people, including tax and tip.

Excellent service in a rad location with really good and healthy food. The other half enjoyed his beer sampler and said the fried chicken sandwich was one of the best he’s had(not heavy and well balanced). I opted for a lighter option and went for the salad and soup. I expected something small, but instead received a hearty bowl of potato fennel leek soup and one of the best«side salads» ever. The salad was enormous — filled with fresh, leafy greens and fennel and topped with a heaping glob of herb ricotta and candied pecans. WHAT? It was a perfect amalgam of things I never thought to put together to create a refreshing and filling salad. Nom. They have a large menu so we’re looking forward to trying more items. The restaurant was quite large and family friendly as well. We’ve found our new go to spot in SC!

FANfuckingTASTIC! First let me say, it was a little hard to find the place bc it’s tucked away past a grocery store at the end of the parking lot with a minimalist sign on their awning. That said, very much worth the look! I started with the ratatouille style eggplant small plate. That was just straight up heaven. As a big eggplant girl, I’ve tried many eggplant variations of this type and it was one of the best ones I’ve had. Extremely flavorful and doesn’t go overboard on any individual ingredient. I ordered the duck meatballs and the roasted carrots as an afterthought and was very much not disappointed. The duck meatballs were crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. It came with 3 meatballs all on an elegantly styled pool of sauces: creamy chive and something tangy & sweet(I forgot, there was too much good stuff!) Man, those carrots! I was a little iffy about trying something that sounded too sweet for dinner(tamarind & maple glaze) but jeez these were the bomb. The carrots were soft and caramelized. The glaze was sweet and the sliced almonds on top really brought that little dish over the top. I also ordered the burger which was damn delightful, especially with the lightly pickled red onions they serve it with. Lastly, I ordered the dark chocolate pot de crème. It’s like someone who grew up loving those chocolate snack packs(like me) decided to make an adult version of that and very successfully executed that dream. The chocolate crème was decadent but not overly sweet. The caramel on top was an added bonus. The salt on top gave that blissful texture and taste. If you needed extra crunch, it’s also served with vanilla wafers that I crushed up and added at the end to gather all the extra chocolate bits. The only bad thing I could say was that the fries that came with the burger tasted a little bit like it was frozen and came from a bag. Not in a bad way, but more like a McDonalds way. Still tasty but not deserving of that burger. The food was so damn good that I’m going to have to give it a 5 star review anyways!

This place is worth the wait! Busy as heck on the weekends, really anytime. The hostess gave us a little boost in the list because of the baby, yay! They have no patience, those wee ones! Roasted Heirloom Carrots: I have had these twice now, spectacular both times. Like healthy fries, only they taste better with that maple tamarind glaze! Roasted mushroom flatbread: okay, before you say I cannot eat«pizza» with cranberries on it, think savory, savory, oh and a little pinch of sweet for balance. The flavors are fantastic together! Nice selection of wine and beers too!

I came here to do a flight of the beer and was impressed with their offerings. Super cool, open, and sophisticated, while being laid back. Their flight consists of 8+ with mostly their brand of beers and Hermitage. FYI, Hermitage brews their beer for them. Not cool– not a brewery, can’t do growler fills. Service: super friendly bartenders! I love the large booths with the chalkboard.

What a beautiful drive down the coast from Moss Beach to Santa Cruz last Wednesday. I met up with my sis and one of the two people I still stay in touch with from High School, many moons ago. Nothing like lunching with a person you used to sneak out to the curb and smoke a cigarette with that you had stolen out of your dad’s pack of Parliaments. Now she’s a SC local so she picked the place. My only request was-not too far from the highway, and not downtown. West End Tap is located just off Cabrillo highway just after you enter Santa Cruz. There’s lots of parking, and some outdoor seating, but the view is the parking lot, so we ate inside. Industrial style with concrete floors and high ceilings, if it has been busy, I imagine it would be very loud, but it wasn’t on this day. We decided to share everything so we could try several different items, and except for the eggplant, which was a little difficult to split, it was a good plan Fire Roasted Eggplant $ 10: fiore di latte, ratatouille & charred tomato This was good, not great. Not a bad concept, but there needed to be a bigger piece of eggplant. I couldn’t really pick up the ratatouille at all. The tomato was pureed. Maybe it’s because winter tomatoes are never as flavorful, but I think it would have benefitted from condensing for awhile to build the flavor Duck Meatballs $ 10: l’orange sauce & parsley chive crème fraîche The serving of 3 was perfect for the three of us. The texture of the meatballs was good, if a little dense. Reminded me a bit of some country pâté’s I’ve had. I thought they could have provided more of the sauce and crème, but what was there had a good punch of orange, needed a little acid. Perhaps a sour cream instead of crème fraiche would have worked better Winter Greens & Citrus Salad $ 14: local meyer lemons & oranges, candied pecans, pecorino toscana & pancetta balsamic vinaigrette This was my hands down favorite dish. The greens were shredded in a way that maintained texture, but still made them easy to pick up on a fork with bits of the other ingredients included. I love it when you can get that perfectly combined bite which lets you taste all the elements the chef put together. Caramelized Onions & Brie, $ 14: kale sprouts, thyme & pumpkin seeds This was tasty, but a bit rich for me. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would have cut back on the onions a bit. I loved the little singed kale sprouts, and the nutty, chewy pumpkin seeds added texture and earthiness. Food: 33⁄40 Service: 17⁄20 atmosphere/intang: 17⁄20 Value: 18⁄20 Overall: 85⁄100

When one spends the day walking up and down the boardwalk and wharf, you can work up a powerful thirst. We were looking for local breweries with food and happened upon Santa Cruz Brewery, but they had no food so we headed to West End Tap and Kitchen. Both are located in a super cute formal industrial warehouse area that has been repurposed as a wine/beer/restaurant/interior design/charcuterie area. Super cute! The cheese plate was amazing with a great range of soft cheeses, blue cheeses, etc. We were seated quickly and really enjoyed our burgers and fries. The portions were huge and we ended up taking food home with us! Super friendly employees and awesome open floor plan with liberal use of oak barrels as décor.

This place is awesome for lunch. Spacious with plenty of beer on tap, in a great location central to lots of other cool stuff. I really liked the way some of the tables were secluded in a little book surrounded by chalkboards — my kids loved it. Food was on point as well. The chicken salad was absolutely huge and really delicious. Very rare that I come across a salad that great with lots of fresh ingredients and all still healthy. Fries with the grass fed burger were also some of the best I have ever had. Crispy and crunchy and perfectly salted. A+

They have two flight options on their menu but the bartender offered me an IPA sampler and I was so happy! I love IPA and no one has this option available. It was sooooo tasty! I couldn’t have been happier and then there was the service. Our bartender Dustin was fantastic, super attentive and informative. One of his other female colleagues was also super attentive. I didn’t get her name but I appreciated the attention she gave when Dustin was on break. beer selection was super solid. Food was as well. My friend had salmon with asparagus and loved it. I had the gnocchi with hazelnut and mushrooms etc. it was super tasty. The portions were really large so neither of us finished our meals. The leftovers died in the heat the next day. Sad… I was a huge fan of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing which is directly across the parking lot but West End has my heart now. It’s the IPA. What can I say?
