Blue Moon Books&Video is a fun labyrinth of art films and used books. A perfect draw for the hipster/​hippie crowd. There are New Agey books for the spiritual types, lumped along with the classics, pulpy romance novels… you name it. Plenty crammed into a tiny spot. It’s a little piece of paradise.
Thanks to this place, I was able to see «Like Water for Chocolate» (disappointed in the film, loved the soundtrack, love the novel) as well as «Prospero’s Books» and «The Pillow Book», and was able to direct a person to Derek Jarman’s «Wittgenstein.» If it’s offbeat, avant garde, made by the likes of Jarman, Ken Russell, Peter Greenaway, David Cronenberg and David Lynch… you’ll find it in this treasure trove.
Blue Moon is one of those places one finds once in a blue moon.
