Horrible service we got the grumpiest girl in the world, we just came from there. Slim pickings, basic selection… No ambiance, sushi was mostly rice, not fresh, not good quality, no taste. Just do yourself and your wallet a favor, go to Smiths(supermarket) right across the parking lot and you will find their fresh sushi section 90% better :) and a nice selection.

Visited for a late lunch. Checked in and got a free drink or desert coupon. Ordered the tempura shrimp, Green chili 1 roll, The red on red role and the shrimp lover’s role with miso soup. Our favorite was the red on red roll. The miso soup was very good as well. Service was very good as they kept my ice tea full. The menu isn’t as robust as I would have liked but maybe that’s because I’m used to eating sushi in San Francisco.

I felt somewhat unwell for a number of hours after eating here, so I’d be cautious, but my experience might have been a complete rarity. That aside, the food was tasty enough, but the strip mall ambiance was uninspiring and inconsistent with what I felt to be fairly high prices(though others here cite good value for money, so my impression may be completely off, which sometimes happens).

Sashimi was just ok. The order came had more pieces than stayed on the menu. Good value for money. Yakiniku is a huge disappointment. It should be grilled, not stirred fried. It was no better than that you can get at fast food joints.

I was super impressed with the quality of the poke tuna salad that I ordered. The portion of tuna was generous; the ingredients seemed fresh; and there was a good mixture of flavors with the salty and sweet in the dressing and the touch of bitterness from the sprouts. It was also a good sign to see that past 8pm on a weekday, there were still several other parties there! Since I was by myself, I didn’t get to try many of the rolls or the sake(had to drive home), but I definitely want to go back. Unlike others, I didn’t have problems with the service, whatsoever. The staff checked to see if I needed anything a couple of times, enough to be attentive without being intrusive.

This place had a happy hour menu that was really delicious and priced just right. Their happy hour selection is fantastic(highly recommend the cucumber salad), especially for the novice. Will definitely be coming back whenever I’m in SF.

Love kai’s! It’s my go to for good sushi without breaking the bank. Love the sashimi salad and all the rolls. I’m a picky eater and they will customize any of the sushi items!!! Mmmm, making myself hungry

I had gone to Kais when it first opened and was pleased with the food and the service. Since then, not so much. The sashimi arrived in chunks, literally big rectangles of fish, it looked like the fish market, not what I expected at a restaurant — the same quantity of fish could have been thinly sliced and pleasantly presented without much extra effort. The tempura was overcooked and unappetizing and the oil it was fried in tasted old with the result being heavy, greasy, and made me sick to me stomach about an hour later. The Poki salad was good but did not make up for the rest of the meal. Give Kai Sushi a pass and head down to Shohko’s Café — it’s more expensive but the best quality around.

2nd time better than the first(which was good enough to get me back). Great food, good size portions and wonderful service. I love simple menus and food and this does not disappoint. Will definitely use as my local Japanese food place.

Good vibes here and amazing food you have to try the sweet and spicy roll. If you know what poke is so does Moto he will knock you away on the flavors of home.

Four of us stopped in tonight and had miso soup, salad, green tea and dinner. The food was fine and we were pleased with the service. When the check came we were charged 10.00 for one pot of tea with one tea bag and four of the small tea cups. When we asked why we were charged so much, she finally realized that we had only one small pot for the 4 of us which was never refilled nor were we asked if we wanted more. She did remove the $ 7.50 from the bill, but truly, few Japanese or Chinese that we know charge for tea…

Most mediocre«sushi» I’ve ever had. Perhaps I am spoiled, coming from Seattle and San Francisco(and having been to Japan), but my simple order of avocado roll, California roll, eel roll, and my special request of smoked salmon with avocado in a roll ended up mostly in the garbage. The Cali roll was made with flavorless surimi(the rice isn’t even sweetened), the smoked salmon wasn’t smoked, it was raw(we can’t eat raw fish around here, ergo my specificity!) but the unagi and straight avo rolls were tolerable. Next time I’ll try another sushi joint in my new town.

Tried this place on a whim, glad we did. We had the California roll, well my 6 year old did, she said it was good. My mom and I shared some rolls, salmon skin — delicious and crispy, the Vegas roll– baked salmon, avocado and cream cheese, great! And then the spicy tuna, now I’ve had bad experiences with spicy tuna, some taste like toilet water, some taste like soap, some taste like nothing at all. I was happy to have this one that tasted like fresh tuna spiced to perfection! I will come back to this spot for sure! Service was good, not the smiley-est people, but the job was done quickly and they paid attention. Over all, the food is where it’s at!!!

Average sushi. Fish was not very fresh, but in the rolls, there was a lot of it. Service was on-and-off. There’s not many other adjectives you can use for this experience.

The sushi was fantastic, the service was horrible. My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly but it took 15 minutes to get water and menus … There were 3 waitresses working and it seemed like they had absolutely no idea what was going on. Orders were getting messed up right and left and they would have to come back 2 – 3 additional times to make sure they had entered it right because they weren’t communicating with each other; it totally ruined the whole experience, especially because it wasn’t a very busy night. We ordered sashimi, tempura and 3 rolls; everything was fresh and very delicious. Too bad the service was so poor that we might not go back. Food 4⁄5 Service 1−2÷5

Great Kai Roll — yummy, great dragon roll, my son likes the combo set of teriyaki chicken — dont forget to add fried rice for $ 2, delicious fried rice. Dont forget the fried ice cream for dessert. And fun stuff — get a free dessert or a bv if you check in on Unilocal

I am vegan. My husband is not. This is a neighborhood spot we frequent. What I am loving, is that The chef has been willing to work with me on creative vegan rolls to supplant their already extensive sushi menu. Sweet potato tempura with avocado and special sauce is one roll you can ask for. The other is green chile, mushroom, avocado and carrot. Both super yummy and totally unique to Santa Fe. Highly recommend!
