This used to be one of our favorite spots. We stopped coming a few years ago when we found long black hair cooked into their chicken(steak and chicken enchilada). We started coming back recently, and it just happened again!

Great New Mexican restaurant on Rodeo. Cozy spot with excellent food and GIANT sopapillas. Open for breakfast, too!

We went to Los amigos on a recommendation for breakfast. We will not return. I’m not a coffee drinker but others in our party were, it was unfit to drink, all had to use more sugar and milk to mask the taste. I tried the corned beef and eggs, absolutely no flavor, the meat, the eggs, the potatoes, even the onions lacked any flavor what so ever, and don’t like onions for breakfast. My wife tried the huevos rancheros, I didn’t try it but I did try the chilie, I could taste the oven roasted of the chilie, but not much more then that, the chilie was brown and tasted of too much flour. The waitress’s were polite, they smiled and nodded, but you could see they didn’t have a clue what was being said. Fortunately, my brother’s Spanish was a h – ll of a lot better then thier English. At the end they took way too long to return our credit cards.

Not the best I eaten but it’s not bad. We used to go often it’s pretty close to home but we no longer go. Mainly because the staff is always very pushy and not very friendly trying to get us to leave and when asking for refills they give you dirty looks. Well maybe the owner will get a hold of this issue and do something about it he seems like a nice guy

This is one of our go-to places for workday lunches. Anyplace 2 people can get a hearty meal, served fast, for around $ 20 total in Santa Fe is a victory in my book. I smile every time I get the check. We’ve been eating there since it was Castro’s, and when it became Los Amigos the quality improved drastically. Notable dishes: The Mexican Platter and the Fajitas. The tacos used to be greasy and awesome, but now they’re not greasy, and mediocre. Sign of the times I guess. Don’t take the 3-stars as a negative review. I just feel that 4⁄5 stars should be reserved for places that are truly remarkable.

We decided to check out this place after some one said they had good food. It was a great experience the food and the portions were excellent in my book for the price you payed. Loved the wait staff and how attentive they were. Will definitely go back. Awesome Mexican restaurant.

Solid food, but nothing spectacular. This place may even be slightly below average, since there are so many great NM restaurants in Santa Fe at various price points and grease levels. I’ve eaten here twice and been underwhelmed. Like I said, solid, but I don’t think it’s likely that I’ll come back, despite the fact that the service was great, and the place is full of locals. The chile rellenos have an odd aftertaste that makes me suspect that they’re stuffed with cream cheese. Also, FYI, these are the type of rellenos that have a thick layer or batter. On the upside, the beans aren’t overly salty, but they’re also not super flavorful. The Spanish rice tastes good, but tastes too much like canned tomatoes, and not enough like spices for my taste. The red chile was pretty good, although it’s of the«bright» flavor, as opposed to the smoky flavor I prefer. La Choza/The Shed definitely have better red chile. The sopapillas are too large, which is problematic, since they don’t fry well, and end up doughy.

Had enchiladas and huevos rancheros. The huevos is so good I can say this will be my last meal choice. Had it with green and red chile. chili is kinda spicy but had a great kick to it. We stayed in the best western plus in Santa fe. Came to see the baloon festival2015. This place is 5 minutes from the restaurant and we got take out due to dogs. Will definitely go back. Salsa was amazing.

Don’t let the external appearance detour you. The chips and salsa were good and kept coming, the tamale and enchilada I had were great(glad I got red and not the hotter green sauce), my husband had tacos which were wonderful, rice was light and fluffy and not dried out like we usually experience. Service was almost too good as they were ready to take our order and we hadn’t completed looking at their larger than most menu.

I love coming here. Free chips and salsa with as many refills as you want. The food is always great as is the service. Great prices for a lot of food. If you are not in the mood for Spanish food no need to worry. They have burgers, chicken, steak, and other foods that do not contain chile. You can also order your food with chile on the side if you want to add it to your liking.

We were seated quickly and almost immediately were asked for our drink order(yay! I’ve been driving since 8am. A drink sounded great). I asked the waitress if the margaritas were gluten free and she gave me an awful look, said I don’t know, I don’t drink. I asked if she would check with the bartender and she went away. Apparently she handed us off to another waitress who asked if we were ready to order. When I said«not yet for food» she hurried off without a chance for me to ask her about a drink. When she finally returned, I asked her the same question and she also couldn’t answer. No one could tell me what was in their drinks, so I had to stick with water. :( She came back shortly to take our food order and was generally short and rushed. When I tried to ask questions(Im intolerant to both gluten & dairy) my options were limited so I ordered chicken tacos. Our entire order came out in less than 5 minutes. My daughters sausage patty(Bart for dinner) was overlooked to hockey puck status. My son loved his smiley face pancake. My husband enjoyed his stuff soppapilla. My 3 tacos were ok but very plain since I couldn’t have the dairy toppings. The chicken ended up being very dry. She was back out quickly with our check. I truly felt rushed the whole time like they wanted our table for someone else. I saw them rushing other guests the same way. Some may appreciate the speedy service but I really don’t like being rushed during my meal and the food came out too fast to have been cooked fresh. This is NOT the«fabulous Santa Fe food» i was promised. I will not be returning.

There are Mexican restaurants and then there are Mexican restaurants, los Amigos is definitely at the top of any list! We arrived in Santa Fe in time for dinner, road buzzed and hungry after the long miles that day. We were greeted with smiles and seated quickly. Our waitress was quick with our water and cerveza order and took our dinner order. The food arrived quickly and was steaming hot. It was quickly apparent that lots of the ingredients were fresh and locally grown. The flavor was fantastic and bright. The waitress came by several times to fill our drinks and check on how we were doing. Let’s talk about the sopaipa, it was great! Great in flavor, freshness, and size! Served still steaming from the fryer it socks up that honey goodness. Be good to yourself, stop in and have a great meal!

Our 4th visit to Los Amigos. This time I had the pork Carne Adovada cooked in their red sauce. It was smokin’ hot! The flavor was excellent as well. The pork was mostly tender though a few pieces were a little tough. Warning: do not get this platter unless you can handle really hot food! It was served with Spanish rice and pinto beans, both quite good. I also had the lime margarita on the rocks — unfortunately it was not mixed properly. It tasted more like just Triple Sec with only minimal tequila. Avoid the margarita.

We came to the right timing for lunch before the crowd started. The deco is very Santa Fe style and the food is very typical New Mexico where you can get comfort food smothered with green and /or red chiles and cheese. We ordered the Mexico platter, breakfast sandwiches, Huevos Rancheros and side of sopapillas(fried bread). They were greasy-spoon brunch and hit the spot! I was a little bit disappointed about the sopapillas because they didn’t turn out the brownish color which was supposed to be. The size of them are bigger than my hand and then I ate it with honey. The service was great and waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Overall, it was good experience and we will be back!

Los Amigos! My friends! Los Amigos, you will always be my friend. First, you are thriving on Rodeo, where all the box stores haunt you just up the road. But Los Amigos, you keep it real. I don’t mean to brag, but when I came here, I was literally the only gringo in the place. Okay I do mean to brag. I’m not saying that Los Amigos is *authentic* or anything, but it’s damn good. I ordered my usual: Negra Modelo and a plate of chile rellenos, Christmas. The food came out near as quick as the beer, which tells all of us that it’s just sitting in big ol pots simmering all evening waiting to be heated up. If that grosses you out, you have never cooked food before. The rellenos weren’t amazing, but they were decent. What WAS amazing were the chiles. The green chiles were good, above average. The REDCHILESWEREHOTHOTHOT and flavorful and delicious! Go here for the red chiles! Also, be warned. The sopapillas here are bigger than YOURHAND. If you don’t believe me, by the beard of Zeus I curse you. Go to Los Amigos.

Bro J and TT arrived on Friday and we headed to La Choza without reservations. When we learned of the one hour wait, we got back in the car and headed for Café Castro. Hmmmmm, closed since last year, so Unilocal helped us find Los Amigos, a little off the path beaten by the tourists. It is well rated without having 200 reviews which I always find promising. From the outside, it is deceiving. It is not all lit up and is not on a main street where a lot of people would drive by and just say, «Hey, there is a place, let’s try it». Yet they were full with a 15 minute wait, which tells me they have a loyal local clientele. The salsa would not be a reason to go here, it is pretty much sweet, tomato purée, but then I never go somewhere for chips and salsa, so that was a throwaway. On the other hand, Bro J’s carne adovada was remarkable, nearly the best of the trip so far out of 3 – 4 places. This is about the richest carne adovada can be without being too much so. Absolutely delicious with tender, moist well cooked pork. This put Maria’s in perspective. Get your red chile fix here. I ordered a big bowl of pork and green chile stew. It is a brothy style, with largish chunks of pork and potato. It did not have a ton of green chile, but it was really good, a homemade style. I dressed it with a squeeze of lime and a dash of salt and it was perfect. TT had her usual chilles rellenos. The red chile she had on top that was extremely rich, like the adobo on the carne. Bro J’s side of posole stayed with the rich red theme. This is not soup. It had large chunks of very good pork and not so much corn. The style is redder, richer and thicker than typical. Very good. On the slight downside, the frijoles are pintos, served whole(which is good) but I thought they needed a little salt and somehow they were a little sweet. The rice was the plastic pellet kind, like Maria’s and pretty tasteless. So far we are 0 for 3 on rice this trip. In summary, this is a great, home style place. You will enjoy excellent carne adovada or pork and green chile stew. Our service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. You can expect to wait a little but it is worth it.

I recently went to a couple of the highest rated mexican restaurants around in Santa Fe, and got to try a majority of their food. Carne advova– The taste portions and tenderness is excellent. Definitely recommend this here Chips — average chips, free Sopapilla– this sopapilla is the best I’ve had in Santa fe. We ordered it on the side after everything was done and it came out crispy and huge Ribeye Steak– Quite good, original taste, no need for steak sauce or anything. Very tender Portions: Good sized, decent pricing Recommend this place over the others: cheaper prices, great sopapilla, free chips, above average everything
