Steve is a a pleasure to work with. He is extremely knowledgeable about early Native American arts. His inventory is high quality and fairly priced. Steve takes the time to provide education and insight into the various types of art he sells. I would recommend him as one of the best in Santa Fe.

I just bought my first piece of real art, and the experience couldn’t have been better! As a first time buyer, walking into a gallery can be a daunting task, especially in Santa Fe. This was unlike any of the other galleries I’ve visited. Paul Elmore is knowledgeable, approachable, and extremely helpful to even the least informed, new collector. Knowing very little about local art except that I was looking for a tiny owl, he answered all my questions and helped me find a piece that I absolutely fell in love with! There was such a great variety of Native art, with something to fit any budget. I would definitely go back to find a perfect gift for someone, or another gift for myself!

Today I became an art collector! After law school I often wondered when I would start collecting art. Living in Philadelphia I wondered if I would go to an estate sale and find some dark, mysterious oil painting of horsemen hunting a fox. Would the passing of my grandmother endow me with a small Picasso sculpture? Nope. Grandma left me no Picasso and estate sales smell bad and rarely involve any art like I’ve seen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I began my art collection today at Steve Elmore Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I now own a lovely 1950’s Cochiti pottery fish. His sad expression makes me think that he is an ancient Zoloft creature and I couldn’t be more delighted. At the gallery, Paul Elmore told me about every piece that caught my eye, happy to pull anything I liked out of the glass cabinets so I could get a better look. I asked about getting started with Native American art collecting and he let me know that it had little to do with spending a certain amount of money, and a lot to do with finding something I could truly adore. With that philosophy I started looking into the cases and this little fish immediately jumped out at me. As soon as he was in my hands I knew that I was about to become a serious art collector.
