Best Mexican food in Santa Maria! Their service is friendly and efficient. The wait time is fast, even for pick-up, and the food is always hot and fresh. Plus, they have the best guacamole in the county.

Simply put, if you are looking for the best Mexican food in town, this is the place. If I would have to recommend a time frame to go in, it would be lunch time.

The food is always great & the service is good. I bit tight & it could get loud. My daughter wanted shrimp tacos & I knew there specialty is sea food. She was not disappointed, she loved them.

I have eaten there twice, and the food is really good. Today, my husband had the shrimp enchiladas with rice n beans. There was not a drop of food on the plate. I accused him of licking it clean! I had a chile verde burrito, shredded beef taco, with rice n beans. Everything was delicious! Even the beans – witch I won’t eat in most Mexican restaurants.

This is really good Mexican food — certainly better than anything here in San Luis Obispo. It’s a mom & pop café that does a nice job with the food in a humble but clean and well-organized location. I really enjoyed their salsa and their chili sauce — both obviously homemade…

We came here for lunch on a Tuesday. The staff is very helpful they offered a booster for my son after we declines the high chair because he doesn’t like to stay in those and they brought him crackers when they noticed he was having a hard time with the chips. I ordered a shrimp burrito and it was very tasty. My husband ordered the shrimp plate and he was very pleased as well.

The veggie fajitas were perfect! I wanted something that tasted authentic and talking with the waiters, they were able to get me just that in a vegetarian-friendly dish. It’s definitely a slightly run-down looking, hole-in-the-wall, and those tend to be the places with the best food. Plenty of seating. I think the restrooms were outside, though.

This used to be my favorite Mexican Food restaurant. The last 4 times I have eaten there, it wasn’t very good. I had the chili Verde dinner and it was tasteless. And for the money it wasn’t worth it tonight.

Every time Ive gone there i order the shrimp cocktail, i wouldn’t choose anything else, they drown it with shrimp !! I came here the other night and my bf dropped something on the floor, looked down to pick it up and there was a cockroach… He stepped on it. Im not going back there till i see that they’ve fixed that problem …

OMG — best Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life, EVER! I love you Unilocalers! Of course, Unilocal brought me here and I’m so thankful it did. It’s a mom & pop, hole in the wall joint, which I adore. Service was awesome, considering how busy they were. Smiles from everyone the moment we walked in the door. Thumbs up! We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken before we could even get comfy. That’s not a complaint, FYI. Homemade chips and salsa were promptly placed in front of us and YUM! So good!!! Because I’m greedy, I had the beef taco/cheese enchilada/chile relleno plate with rice & beans, of course. My friend has the burrito with rice & beans. For me, the litmus test for any Mexican spot are the beans, rice, and the salsa. If they are good, that’s usually an indication of what to expect with entrees. My theory was right this time — because our food was bomb! Everything was amazingly good. I had some chile relleno, rice & beans for leftovers and dammit, they were better the next day! Holy moly! I highly recommend this place — traditional, authentic, awesome food paired with excellent service at cheap prices — what more do you need? Totally recommend!

Nevermind the look of this little place. Its the food that counts and man does it count. I love this little place, atmosphere, music, everything about it. If you want some of the absolute best Mexican food in the area, this place is it. If you love fish with a mexican style you can’t go wrong here. Probably the most extensive menu around. I go for the Chile Colorado. This seems to be the ONLY place that does it correctly. And its damn good. Been coming here for many years. Cold beers. Great service. Best food, all at a great price. Cant say how much I love this place.

This was the second Mexican restaurant we went to since moving to the Central Coast. El Herradero was the first. Jack had his usual chicken burrito. He thought the one here was much better. I also found the salsa better. The pico de gallo seemed specially made for us was was so flavorful, much better here. I ordered a coctel con camaron y pulpo. Despite the«half» order size, it was huge. I was a little disappointed as the liquid was quite bland. They have a spicy version on the menu with more seafood which I did not want. But then my combo was not on the menu either. Next time I will ask. I also got my usual: tacos al pastor. Here I have to say, the ones at El Herradero were better on their own. However, given the quality of the salsa and pico at both places which which I doused them, here they were«mejor». They do not have ceviche de pescado or birria on the menu. I will go to Herradero for that. But overall we loved this place. The waitress was super nice and attentive.

Really great Mex seafood. They had a ceviche like cocktail filled with all kinds of animals from the sea(oysters, abalone, yum). It was flavorful, but you might need some of that hot sauce to get the fishiness level down. They also had many non seafood options like the fajita enchilada combo. There’s also lobster, which I didn’t get to try, but it looked good. When I make the trip down, this is definitely a place I’d want to go to again!

We heard so much about this place. But were extremely dissatisfied with the food. It had no flavor. The chilaquiles, rice and beans were good. But the seafood had no flavor. They have great service and the servers are very friendly but the food is unfortunately lacking. Will not come back again.

Amazing food. Everything that I have ordered here is wonderful. The wait staff is hard working and friendly. Definitely recommend the shrimp cocktail, it’s overflowing with shrimp. I actually recommend EVERYTHING! If you want great Mexican food Lo Mejor de Jalisco is the place to go!

My quest continues to discover every Mexican restaurant in Santa Maria, California. Lo Mejor de Jalisco: good selection of seafood, fat burritos, tropical ambiance, and great service. The salsa is slightly spicy, a little sweet, and somewhat akin to pico de gallo. The chips are as fresh as can be. This is the seventh(eighth if you count Chipotle) place I’ve visited since December. Santa Maria’s electorate is 70 percent Latino and there is a heavy culture here of Mexican cuisine. Not sure how many Mexican restaurants are here, I lost count.

So… we hear this place is great. Well, drum roll please, it was. The food was perfectly spiced, generous portions, stoopidly wonderful salsa and I am just about to eat some flan-chocolate cake. I bet it’s a killer! It arrived and it was absolutely sabroso!!!
