I’m not from Santa Maria so I still don’t know all the local restaurants and bakeries yet, so when I asked a few friends where to go for fresh baked pan dulce(Mexican sweet bread) they recommended this place. No doubt from the moment I stepped out of my car on a Sunday afternoon the aroma of freshly baked sweet bread filled the sidewalk all the way upon entering the shop. I walked in expecting to see bread on a shelf or display case, I’d say half and half was displayed in a case, the other half was still on the racks. Some had already been cooled off, some smelled fresh out of the oven. The one thing I didn’t like about this place was that there was no labels to any of the filled sweet breads so it was kinda a guessing game as to what filling you’d be getting. The place over all could use a good cleaning and maybe a good paint job too, it’s somewhat run down. The bread I thought lacked flavor but still ok. I honestly don’t think I’d ever return for sweet bread here, unless it’s the only place open I can find. I’m not saying it was horrible I’m just saying that I know there’s better out there.

This place is delicious!!! We live in Hawaii and while visiting family we came here two times for breads in the morning. The selection is great and they were replenishing the supply both times we were there. The ladies that worked there were very nice and answered my questions when I was looking for a specific pastry. We read the other review and although we were here in June, we didn’t notice flies. The store is quite large and the door was closed so maybe this was during the summer months? This is worth a try if you’re craving Mexican pastries with many different options :-)

This bakery has a decent selection of mexican baked goods and really good bolillos. The staff are spanish speakers but they do their best to speak english. The reason it gets 3 stars is because there are way too many flies in the shop. So many that i have found a fly in my bread… TWICE!!! Probably will never return
