I want to take a star off for no alcohol BUT I hear they are working on that… yes right? Please? I can help you choose if that’ll help. Organic red please… anyways, back to Simply Raw. Clean, Simple, peaceful, pleasant, fresh. Those are the ways I felt when I came in tonight with my girlfriend. Really nice place. Nice service 20% off between 5−7p everyday. I have been craving it, I’ll be back.

«Closed until further notice» sign when we arrived… Bummer =’( We were excited to check it out. If they closed, they should have let Unilocal know so customers wouldn’t waste time driving here. Boo.

Food: We asked the cashier for her recommendation as far as salad. We decided to get the Simply Salad. I liked the crunchy bits. I wish I could remember what they were — think croûton-ish. It was loaded with greens, avocado, and tomatoes. As always, I had the dressing on the side. This makes for a tasty dry salad; however, the dressing as good. What makes this salad is that everything tastes fresh. A crisp salad at the end of the day is a sign of quality produce.(Did you know that L.A. gets 3rd/4th tier produce?) As far as entrees, S got the lasagna. I had a bite and I thought it was rather good. It looks like a small portion, but keep in mind that raw lasagna usually contains a nut«cheese» or «meat», which can be rather filling. I decided to have the Teriyaki Noodles. I tend to gravitate toward kelp noodles when I have the chance. I think it’s because no matter how hard I try, I find that mine never come out with the same kind of texture that restaurants get. I loved by dish. The kelp noodles were placed on a bed of cabbage. The cabbage had a hint of the flavors that had dripped onto it from the teriyaki sauce. This was the perfect portion when combined with half of the salad. Since we were trying a new place, we had to try dessert. We opted for the strawberry cheesecake. we both agreed that it was good. The crust and the strawberry compote was heavenly; however, my one dislike(sorry, simply raw) was the coconut syrup. I love coconut. I like coconut oil, but I am rather selective when cooking with it, because it gives food a distinct flavor. This coconut syrup was too sweet(I rarely ever say that) and I felt it didn’t compliment the flavor of the actual pastry. S, on the other hand, liked the coconut syrup. I swear I could have this cheesecake a few times a week. Service: The staff was friendly and attentive. The cashier knew the menu and the food and was honest about her opinions and recommendations. Our food was brought out quickly and with no mistakes. Our plates were cleared timely.

What I loved: The presentation of the food. Everything looked extremely appetizing… and the food was very delicious. We order the beat salad, and the tacos. The beat salad consisted of strawberries, raisins, arugula and maple mustard vinagrette. The tacos: walnut meat, avocado, pico de gallo and cashew cream wrapped in cabbage… the colors where beautiful which really enhanced the taste. What I hated: Cold pressed organic juices. I am a big fan of juices, but these where just awful. For starters I was immediately disappointed when he handed them to us out of the refrigerator, making me feel as though they were not fresh. We had G3: kale, cucumber, lemon, ginger, celery… so in theory it sounds delicious… but it was not. Also tried ALG: apple, lemon, and ginger. Again sounds good but was horrible. I think it actually burned my mouth. Chomp Eatery offers some similar blends and they are a million times better. Whats even worse is each one of these drinks was $ 9. I would pay this without complaint if I loved the drink, but I could not even take more then one sip of the ALG… I would give this a place another try… But maybe go with a shake… they offer 10% off with a Unilocal check in…

OK, gladly ate here a week straight and I’m giving it two enthusiastic thumbs up(If I had more thumbs I’d give more thumbs. Chocolate shake perfect(not easily earned). Raw Tacos perfect. One time out of the seven days the cabbage shell was a little thick for me but that’s probably because my baby teeth never fell out and I’m whiny in general. You get 3 tacos, so, 1 taco out of the 21 was a little harder to bite through, but not by much. Yeah, I’m high maintenance. Most people probably smart and accept cabbage no matter how it comes because it’s so specifically healing and soothing for the stomach and abdominal area so I should shut up. Yes, they have glass bottled cold press juice, yes they have the jun elixirs, yes their quality rivals all other raw competitors, and yes they have an entire wall of menu items to choose from. Seriously, though, they wrote out the entire menu neatly across a whole wall. If you ever come in and see huge streaks of chalk as if someone rubbed their whole body on it like a giant eraser you’ll know it was me unable to stop myself from seeing what would happen if I did it. I will be back. Tomorrow. And the next. Yeah, and the next after that. Get the picture? No? …the day after that… I will shine like the sun getting my organic on here. O, and besides how greatly great I’m going to be in the future from assimilating all this greatness from this great place, I should mention that the interior architecture is worthy of Frank Lloyd Wright(greatest architect of all time). They will win an award one day for their interior. If they don’t for some reason at least I’ll get an award for my interior one day after what eating here will do. Organic vegan and raw, Oh, YAW!!!

Welcome to the hood Simply Raw. Glad you are here. Your smoothies are delicious. Coconut with nut milk and dates is my favorite. I’ve also tried the teriyaki kelp noodles and tacos. Fireworks go off in my mouth when I take a bite. Meals are more like snacks though, I need a couple. Or maybe if I stuck to these portions I’d finally fit into my clothes comfortably again. Food for thought. Pecan dessert, chia seeds pudding, cheesecake with citrus blueberries on top are all mouthwatering. Props for partnering with Ron and spreading the REjuice love. Lucky me, I was in the neighborhood and scrolling through my Unilocal feed to discover this brand new raw vegan restaurant. It’s so new that there was only one Unilocal review posted at the time(but I’ll settle to be review #3). It’s so new that when I walked in and said«this is my first time here» they responded«we’ve only been open for two days!» It’s so new that I was 1st to leave a quick tip :) The friendly staff recommend the Tacos.(They also recommended the Lasagna and the Stroganoff.) Raw vegan food is basically glorified salads but I’m always amazed at how creative they can be. The taco contained a generous serving of delicious walnut meat that had so much flavor. Probably some of the best walnut meat I’ve ever had in raw vegan cuisine(and I used to be raw vegan for two straight years). It was topped with pico de gallo, cubes of avocado, and cashew cream. The ingredients sat in a sturdy cabbage leaf which makes a perfect raw taco shell. The dish comes with two tacos and the portion is perfectly filling. Must be all that walnuts, cashews, and avocados! Even though I was happily full, the sweet tooth side of me really wanted to get the pecan pie. I used to make a damn good raw vegan pecan pie back in the day but this one was was pretty amazing! It’s not based off the traditional pecan pie like mine is and almost reminds me of pumpkin pie(is there pumpkin in it?). Whatever it’s made with, it’s delicious and now my new favorite thing in life :) I like this place! For a restaurant that is brand new, it seems to have a good groove. The décor and atmosphere is much more down to earth and less pretentious than other raw vegan restaurants. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be back here anytime I’m in Santa Monica :)
