I got a classic burger with bacon and a side of fries with cheese. The cashier was very nice! We go to sit outside and all the tables were really dirty so I nicely asked Fabian P grab a sanitized towel. He rolled his eyes and walked away without a response. So I waited. He brought out our food, where’s the towel? I’m not eating food on a dirty table. I worked with food and know everything about it. I ask the girl that was my cashier if she could ask him personally to bring it and he finally did. Even when he brought our food, no «here you go.» Not even a word. Alright Fabian. If you hate your job that much, quit. There’s tons of people looking for jobs. Management sucks? Then quit. He was horrible. The burger was alright and the fries were amazing!

Boo. This is can hardly be called Steak and Shake. The menu is a fraction of the choices I’ve had at every other location I’ve been to. I’m not sure what the reasoning is for the extremely abbreviated menu but I really don’t need to go out of my way to come back. So sad.

I waited an hour+ just for an order of large Cajun fries! Asked one of the waitresses twice if she checked my order and she said yes. I never got an update. Asked another waiter and he finally got my order. Ugh. I didn’t even want my fries anymore because of the long wait.

Nothing impressive about Steak n Shake. Not quality nor service. I was just curious to try the food because of the location and it was pretty packed. The menu is so limited; 2 – 3 burgers to choose from, a few french fries, and 5 – 6 shakes. The burger was so soggy and flavorless. The fries were so skinny and cold. Ohhh let me tell you this… Have you ever seen a fast food restaurant that provides No Napkins!!! Well, if you stop by here you will be surprised!!! When I asked the young waiter for napkins, it took 2 minutes to find 2 small and cheap napkins; but thank you young guy that was better than nothing. Don’t judge Steak n Shake by its location.

Went here for lunch with a friend and had nothing but a good experience. I ordered the«Fresco Melt», which is basically two burger patties on sourdough bread with Swiss cheese and a sweet and tangy sauce. It was delicious. The fries that came with it were pretty good as well. I ordered the cookie dough milkshake but it pretty much just tasted like a vanilla milkshake with cookie dough bits in it. Wish it had more of a cookie dough flavor. The service was pretty quick and all the employees I encountered were friendly.

It was our first time trying this place. We order 2 double chesse burgers, 1 chilli chesse fries, and 1 parmigian chesse fries. The burger tasted average and the buns was dry. The fries were thin string shape which was cute but it tasted very salty. Pricey burgers with average taste(2 stars). Servers seem are friendly. Good location to people watch on your leisure..

I haven’t eaten fast food in over two years. BUT I had to make an exception to Steak and Shake. I’m a MIDWEST girl so I’m no stranger to the good old steak burger and and skinny fries. Don’t forget the shakes. service was great. Cashier greeted me and took my order with ease. They have the new cool soda machines so I got my vanilla Seagrams Ginger Ale. I noticed on the menu they even serve liquor. Like Chardonnay And some different beers. I ordered my favorite the Frisco melt!!! YASSSSSSSSSSITWASSOOOOOGOOD. The restaurant was clean and the manager switching the trash, bus boy made sure to wipe all the tables. I like it and this fast food taste waaayyyyy better than any other fast food. They are actually cooking your food back there. And they bring your food to your tables. IFYOUARWEVERINSANTAMONICAANDWANT A QUICKBITE, STEAKANDSHAKEISYOURBESTBET!

I’ve seen Steak and Shake while traveling in the south but never had the chance to eat there. I was excited that they opened a location near me and decided to try it out. Our order: steakburger $ 8.99 with grilled onions $.99 and upgraded the fries that the meal came with to chili cheese fries. Also got a chocolate milkshake $ 3.49, I think. Our total for this ONE meal was $ 18.20. Are you kidding me?! $ 18+ for a fast food meal??? I thought… it better be good! My friend asked them to cut our burger in half and the cashier said…“we will give you a knife”. Give me a knife?! Are you kidding? Whatever. Our food arrived and I was a little surprised. The burger seamed like a decent size, a little on the small side, and looked good but the chili cheese fries were small, the fries were soggy and the chili had beans. All wrong! The burger was tasty but too small. A few minutes later, our chocolate milkshake arrived. It was good, icy and delicious. It was an ok meal. Way too expensive for what it was. Had it once… don’t think I’ll be back, unfortunately.

So I first had Steak ‘n Shake when I lived out in Chicago and it was our go to place for late night food. The menu options here were half what they had in Chicago. Also, it was obvious that the employee who took our order really didn’t wanna work and his attitude was poor, 3⁄5. Don’t expect gourmet burgers or anything like that, but if you want fast and quick food, it definitely will satisfy that. I ordered the original double burger and it was really soggy, it created a hole through the wrapper it was in. but the burger itself was not bad, 3/5, but I could’ve gotten a better burger for the price haha. I do love their fries, the Cajun fries to be specific, 5⁄5! I expected more from this since it’s on Third Street, but I also expected Chicago Steak ‘n Shake, so I was disappointed.

I ordered a frisco melt with Cajun fries. The frisco melt reminded me of a grilled cheese sandwich but with meat in it. It was a bit greasy but pretty damn good. The Cajun fries were bomb. My arteries are likely clogged and my Unilocal days may be limited, but it was a pretty good last meal lol :)

The location is good. Right on 3rd st. and all their walls are floor to ceiling glass so it’s great for people watching. When you look at the photos on the menu you expect huge Fuddrucker sized burgers but in reality the burgers are pretty much Shake shack sized(tiny thin patties). A double combo is 5.99 and comes with fries, drinks are separate. In n out is overall cheaper and the portions are larger. The food is not bad though. The peppercorn burger was actually really good. The fries are shoestring style. Overall I think this place is better than shake shack but half a step below in n out.

Nice location, friendly service, but subpar burgers. My husband and I dropped in to try a burger. Needless to say, it took forever to come, was cold, and, according to my husband, reminded him of a McDonald’s burger. And for a lot more expensive. As I mentioned above, this place gets kudos for having really nice employees, and a nice location on the Promenade, but I won’t be back.

Entirely adequate burger and fries, nothing special. Feel is more of a food court, but a little too greasy feeling for 3rd Street Promenade… maybe that’s more authentic? Add in the 3rd St level pricing and yeah, even though you bring the burger to me after I order, I’m not impressed. And what’s with being so stingy with napkins?

After searching Third Street Promenade for a suitable place to eat, my coworkers and myself opted for Steak ‘n Shake. From the outside it appear to look a little more upscale than the rest of the fast food places like Johnny Rockets, Hummus Bar, etc. The order process was very simple and the cashier was extremely friendly. She made my experience that much more enjoyable. The burger was supposed to be $ 5 and seasoned french fries was supposed to be $ 1.75 but somehow ordering both of them but what her total came out to about $ 5.60. Before I paid I asked the cashier if that was correct and she told me yes so no complaints from me. A burger and fries for less than $ 6 is perfect. Before I set down the cashier clean the table I was going to sit at and I told her I could’ve done that but she insisted it was her job and she was happy to do it– amazing! My food came out shortly and I took it back to my office to eat. I was amazed at how tasty the season fries I got were and how solid and tasty the hamburger I got was also. I will 100% go here over any other fast food place if I’m looking for a great burger and fries for Less than $ 6. This Steak ‘n Shake is awesome and this was a very enjoyable experience! I will be back!

I mean — I wouldn’t go back. There’s plenty of places around here to eat at. I was just curious(as I’m sure most of you were too). The last time I had this was last year, in Georgia. Totally different over here. Especially this location. I know they have one in Vegas too! I know for a fact that the menu is smaller. This location seems to be a bit more ‘modern’ to appeal to its audience. I wasn’t too fond of the guy working the register. I’m sure he was joking around but I didn’t find his jokes funny. Prices are good, not bad at all — but I mean, the wow factor totally goes away once you get your food. The fries were horrible — & i love me some fries. I was beyond sad that only 2 – 3 pieces were crunchy. Everything else seemed old and soggy. Save yourself the time & money. Go elsewhere for food.

I am starting this review whilst in line at Steak N Shake. I’ve decided to do this review in real time. … …oh dear God we’re still here. We have moved about a foot in 10 minutes. Two of the parties behind us in line have given up. Or they were eaten. One or the other. Oh, I see. There is one person working the register. And he looks like he has no idea what he’s doing. If he’s new, sorry man, management made a terrible decision leaving you there alone to fend off the wolves. What the hell? They have wine? That’s…unnecessarily fancy. Wait… why does one of the wine bottle have cobwebs on top? Like a big clump of white cobwebs on the top. How does that… like Halloween was a long time ago. We just came here for a milkshake, just give us one and we will leave you alone. Yes, I’m not reviewing any of the food here. I can see the food, it looks like it’ll be about Johnny Rocket’s quality for a little bit less in price. That’s right, I am VISUALLY reviewing the food for you. You’re welcome. Oh good, the manager is now ringing people up. I will have the black raspberry chocolate chip shake, my wife will have the cookies and cream. Yeah, that’s right, I didn’t say it out loud. I typed it and made the manager read it(No I didn’t do that you doofus! Who would do that?!) And now the waiting games begin… well that honestly wasn’t very long. …yeah it’s good. The cookies and cream doesn’t have enough«cookie» to it, but it’s fine. The black raspberry is good… okay as I go along towards the end it sort of has an almost medicinal quality to it but I’m still enjoying it. I’m feeling generous. You get a 3, Steak N Shake, if only because relative to the area you aren’t as expensive. But your reputation does not precede you. You might be a Midwest staple… but I don’t care.

A decent, fast-food burger spot along the Promenade. Burgers are your typical basic, barebones burgers(L&T and a little sauce) plus a fairly substantial piece of meat thats cooked well, but nothing to rave about. Difficult to stand out when the bar for fast-food burgers is set by In-N-Out. Their fries here are pretty good. Fairly crispy and of the thinner variety. Costs $ 0.29 to upgrade to cajun or salt & pepper flavoring, but they have their house spice and pepper and salt condiments on the table so I’d recommend just using those.

My boyfriend’s friend lives in Tennessee. When he visited Tennessee, this was one of the first places they ate at because they were open very late. He enjoyed it in Tennessee so he was pretty excited to find out that a location was opening in Santa Monica. I’ll say from the start that I almost never eat burgers at a fast food joint unless it’s In-N-Out and even then it is rare. When I eat burgers, I almost exclusively eat them at higher end restaurants. But I was completely open to Steak ‘n Shake and was sort of looking forward to checking this burger joint out. We ordered the Original Double Burger(American Cheese, Fresh Lettuce, Pickles, Vine-Ripened Tomato, Onion, Ketchup), the Frisco Melt(Two Steakburgers with sweet ‘n tangy Frisco sauce, American and Swiss Cheese, on grilled sourdough) and a Cookies and Cream Milkshake. Both of our burgers came with fries that looked crisp but were soggy and limp. Even ketchup could not save them. The Original Double Burger tastes just like a Whopper from Burger King. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but I didn’t order a Whopper. My boyfriend’s Frisco melt had much more flavor than my burger. It was very cheesy and actually decent enough to eat for the price. Their only saving grace was their milk shake but even then, I thought that it did not have enough cookies in it at all. Average at best. Overall, it was a disappointment because I was hoping that it would be a good and cheaper addition to the mostly expensive 3rd Street Promenade. But it didn’t work out for me at all. Maybe it’s because I’m a West Coast girl but my favorite cheap fast food burger is still In-N-Out. Actually I would rather eat a Big Mac than eat one of their burgers. 2⁄5

I loved it. First time trying it. My sisters are the ones that recommended it. It was very inexpensive and it was yummy. I got the first combo which was a burger and fires. I asked to get an upgrade to chili cheese fries. The french fries were small with a little bit of chili and cheese. The burger was small too. I mean if you are paying $ 4.99 I don’t think anyone would expect a big meal. I’m not sure how much more they charged for the upgrade because I didn’t check the receipt. I just saw the menu where it stated that a burger and regular fries were $ 4.99. I wasn’t able to try the shakes because they were all out of the one I wanted. The cashier was friendly and helpful. The dining area was nice. It was an open indoor dining area. You can see people walking and enjoying their day and they can see you devouring that hamburger. The place was packed when we went inside and we couldn’t find a table for all of us so we had to split up. It was 9 of us and there was some tables that you can connect but they where being occupied. We split up, but it wasn’t that bad. By the time we were done eating the place was almost empty. I guess it was just our luck to go in during their rush hour.
