I’m a little suspicious of the previous reviews because the food here just doesn’t cut it. The people were friendly and the portions were generous but the al pastor was flavorless. Plenty of other options nearby. You might want to find something else.

I’ve tried a handful of the almost couple dozen Mexican restaurants in Santa Paula, and since enacting my ‘Best Of’ hunt for tasty burritos I’ve been able to break free of the few and try the other many. From what I gather, Amigas is one of the newest places to throw their hat into the bull ring that is the Santa Paula Mexican food scene. Their location is nearly relegated to speakeasy status, as its hidden down a retail corridor between a couple buildings in the middle of downtown Main St. According to their to-go menu, they also run the snack shack inside Buena Lanes bowling alley in Ventura. This is review number 3 for carne asada burritos in SP; here’s the nitty gritty: refried beans, Spanish rice, onions, cilantro, meat. sealed into a giant serving, for $ 7 and change. Complimentary chips and red salsa were given while waiting for the burreet. We also ordered some corn burritos, a local staple. The salsa wasn’t spicy, but had a nice complex flavor, and tastes more of a vinegar base than a citrus base. The green sauce we had was a spicy avocado sauce, totally dug it. On the burrito, big chunks of tasty carne asada are stuffed in there with a rice that is really close to my abuelita’s recipe! I was thoroughly impressed with what I was eating. After a few bites, I did notice a bit of a sodium overload, though. So it seems either this batch of rice or the beans might’ve been seasoned a bit on the heavy side. Both red and green salsas added extra flavor to the burro. The corn burritos(fried, rolled corn tortillas filled with refried beans) were excellent! They were swimming in sauce but still crispy and crunchy. The sauce wasn’t too spicy or over-seasoned. They bill theirs as the«best corn burritos in Santa Paula,» they definitely give others some good competition. On the chingon scale, 1 – 5, this carne asada burrito gets a high 4. I really enjoyed what they had concocted, but the over-saltiness of that days batch of rice(or beans) prevented the 5 rating. I’ll definitely be back to sample other menu items. The service was fast and friendly! It’s a small, clean joint hidden to the casual eye, so seek them out and slap your taste buds with some down home Mexican cookin!

My family and I have stopped by here about 3 times to eat and the food was very good. We were having a party for about 50 people and decided to order from Amigas, we got carnitas, chicken and carne asada and all the fixins to go with the meat. WOW was all I can say. Over and over our guests kept complimenting the food. Highly recommend.

Authentic Mexican food. Ordered the gorditas de chicharron and they were over-the-top DELICIOUS! The chile relleno burritos, carne Asada and pastor tacos were also VERY good. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy but it is clean and the owners are extremely nice and attentive… and did I mention the food is EXCELLENT?! As locals, My family & I will definitely be frequenting this little gem of a restaurant.
