This place is fairly new, located on Santa Paula’s charming Main Street. It is housed in a classic diner style space, with red vinyl seats lining the counter and red vinyl booths along the wall. The menu is mostly Mexican, with burgers available off the grill. The portions are large, we ordered the cheese enchilada plate, and it came with 3 cheese stuffed enchiladas and a generous portion of rice and beans and a small salad. The adobada taco plate was great. The meat was marinated in a great blend of spices. The rice was well seasoned, as well and the refried beens were everything you could want. One word of caution– I didn’t confirm it, but I am pretty sure they used lard in the refrieds, so if you are vegetarian, ask! The waitress was super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. We will be adding Las Chabelitas to our list of places to eat in Santa Paula!

I work over all of Ventura county so I get to try different restaurants and I like to come to las Chabelitas when I pass through Santa Paula around lunch time. I’ve tried nearly everything on the menu and it’s all good so far. The food is reasonably priced and good sized portions and, while the ambient is nothing spectacular, it is comfortable. The place isn’t usually crowded in the 4 or 5 times that I’ve been here, which makes for quick meals. The staff has always been friendly and attentive, too.

We happened upon this fun little gem by mistake. Newly opened, freshly painted with cute booths giving it a diner feel. Waiter was friendly and fast. Food was delicious. My husband had the carne asada tacos and I had the grilled fish tacos. Hope this does well in the area; we will stop by again next time we are passing through!
