I highly doubt that any of these employees giving massage have actually studied massage and received a school of massage certification and state licensing. Almost everyone puts pressure on top of the knees and on the backside of the knees(no, no, don’t do that!!) and also I’ve had to stop employees from putting pressure directly on my spine(a worse no-no which can result in serious injury) I’ve never had any sign that these people know anything about reflexology which they advertise. If you get a person who knows what she is doing, you may enjoy a pleasant hour. I’ve been in the middle of a massage when a client came in requesting the employee that was working on me, so they wanted to switch me out to someone else(I said no); sometimes the phone rings and they stop massage to answer it or attend to someone coming in the door. These interruptions and conversation take away from a good experience. I would like the towels changed after each client. Real cleanliness is lacking. It’s the low price which keeps people coming back.

I have gone to this place 6 times and the massage therapist that was the best left. Today I had a so-so ‘rub down’ more than a massage for $ 70⁄90 minutes. I tipped the gal and she said that I didn’t tip her enough. I couldn’t believe what she said and asked her to repeat it to make sure I didn’t misunderstand her poor English. Yep. I told her I had had better ones and left. Guess I won’t be back; and I had earned enough visit points for my next one to include a free 30 minutes! The two gals managing the desk must have been too busy talking and didn’t hear my conversation because they didn’t say anything.

I came here because my back was in alot of pain and close to home, I had gone to one like it downtown and thought I would have the same experience as the other one. There were three things I didn’t like about this place(I hope it has changed for the better since) 1st: When the guy put my feet in the hot water to soak, he walked away for a good 5 to 10 minutes before doing anything. The thing that bothered me about this was that it counted towards my hour, and I’ve been to another place that actually starts working on another part of the massage while your feet soak, so I feel this guy should had done the same 2nd: He massaged the side of my feet so hard that later that night I found bruises on my feet. 3rd: and this was the worse part, while giving me the back massage(the full body massage section) He noticed my tumor on my shoulder, and he kept trying to rub it out, thinking it was a knot. I explained to him 3 times that it was not a knot and to leave it alone because it was hurting but he ignored me(or perhaps didn’t understand English?) he then left and returned with a VERY Hot towel to put on my tumor, it was so hot that it burned my skin. I yelled out in pain, and he took it off me and then tried to rub the lump again, but now it was even more in pain. I told him to stop, and he finally did. The good news was my spine didn’t hurt anymore The bad news was my tumor and my whole left shoulder was in alot of pain I will not be going back here again

Wonderful! I got an amazing massage for an incredible price. She really put a lot of love into it, and she was clearly skilled. The foot reflexology was spot-on — yes a bit uncomfortable at times because that indicates why I need it! — but that’s to be expected. Here’s the thing about this place you need to understand: the reason it’s so cheap($ 25.99/hour at the time I’m writing this — less than half of what most massages cost!) is because it is a different sort of business model. Which you may or may not dig. There is a front room with two massage chair/lounges and so you’re «in public»(but have your clothes on). You may end up in a private room, depending on what you ordered from the massage menu, so to speak. Culturally, it may come as a shock to certain persons that the massage therapist is casually chatting with her co-worker while working your tired muscles. As for me, this is all perfectly okay. I enjoyed the cameraderie that these ladies have, and hearing the beautiful sounds of their language. Not distracting to me because I didn’t understand a word of it, and they kept their volumes tastefully low. And yes, with an hourly rate that low(hello? it’s California, people!) they absolutely DO rely on tips to make it work. What’s wrong with that? Even if you give a fat tip of 40% that’s still just ten bucks, and a kick-ass massage for $ 36 is not easy to come by elsewhere. I was actually amazed at how diligently they work for seemingly low wages – I suppose that is the beauty of perspective when you come from another country and appreciate the incredible bounty and abundance we have here. Anyway, 5 stars for them… and big love to the haters!

If you want reflexology, Ocean Spa is your place. For the quality, it is a steal. The owner is not only accomplished in this old Chinese therapy, he works intuitively, and not by rote. He will find the problem spots and work on them. If you have problems in your feet and legs, reflexology might hurt the first few times. As a massage therapist myself, I knew I had to stick with the program to get results. I now go as regularly as my budget allows.
