Was craving chicken wings, but didn’t want to dish out too much dough. I decided to go to Boll Weevil during their happy hour. Thank goodness that it’s baseball season because it is happy hour whenever there is a Padres game and M-F, 4−6pm. At 60 cents a wing, it’s a steal. The wings are huge. They are larger than other places I’ve been. They have a variety of flavors, but I stick to the mild buffalo sauce. I know, I’m weak. I also ordered zucchini sticks. I prefer those over mozzarella sticks because you just get more. Ten wings and an order of zucchini sticks later, I am stuffed and very happy. They are famous for their half pound steerburgers which a lot of people do get. On Wednesdays, they’re $ 5.49. I used to order their burgers, but the bottom bun always got soggy and I hate soggy bread. Needless to say, I don’t order the burgers here. The beer selection is pretty good. They have their usual, but change their selection enough that if you want to try something new, you can. Every time I’ve gone, the service has been great. Tiffany is really good. I try to sit at one of her tables whenever I can. I noticed Kelli didn’t have a good experience with her. Tiffany might have been having an off day that day. I guess I’ve just been fortunate to have attentative servers, even when it isn’t Tiffany. Parking can sometimes be a pain, but the 60 cents wings are worth circling the parking lot. The tables are clean when I’ve been there and if there are tables that need to bussed, they don’t sit dirty too long.

Gluten free options at a boll weevil? Cool! My wife has special dietary considerations due to health and this boll weevil was able to accommodate them which is a big plus. She knows I live the boll weevil in IB, and loved it as a kid, so we drive out here to check it out. The gluten free fries were great, but she got her burger wrapped in lettuce, so we can’t comment on the gf buns. I had a regular bacon burger and fries, and it was pretty good. The patty isn’t quite as good as the patty they use at the IB location. Otherwise it was very similar. The service was adequate; I had noticed a lot of other reviews complained about the service. I wouldn’t have commented on this, except it seemed that our waitress was the only one working, but she seemed to do a pretty good job of being the only one there working. They had a lot of beer, a pretty decent selection for east county. They had a mural outside of their bathroom with the logos of local brewery’s, but I forgot to snap a photo. The location itself was decent, but looked like it could use a little tlc. Overall I think many of the reviews have been too harsh, it seems like a good little joint.

One star because I can’t leave zero stars. I am really disappointed with whatever kind of dining experience and/or service this was supposed to be. I came with some longtime friends that came into town and Tiffany seemed competent enough to help us take our order. Guess not, and this was already our second mistake. The first one had apparently been choosing this place and not the one across the parking lot. She had another person come help her, which didn’t do too much… Our drinks and food came out at different times, horrible service, no apologies from Tiffany– Real nice. BUT The worst part was, and I am putting this in the most professional, polite form possible: she had the most unbearable hygiene one could ever imagine throughout the entire dining experience. I will never be coming here again and from the rest of the Unilocal reviews, either will very many other people.

Never again. The food was terrible and the service was a joke. I wonder if the staff ever had training.

I used to like this place mainly because of the happy hour $ 12-$ 14 pitchers on ANY draft beer. I used to get the wings and pitcher and bring my whole family with me. We became regulars to the point that most waitresses knew who we were and knew what we were gonna order specially in types of beers. Until today that we got a pitcher like always with our wings and after we asked for the check and realized that the pitcher was $ 24, on happy hour? I didn’t even know what to say. I asked the waitress who apparently is the manager as well, and her response was that because of the alcohol content(6.5% that’s not that much btw) and 4 glasses in a pitcher worth $ 6 each 6×4=24. ONHAPPYHOUR. Wow just wow. They just lost a customer. So if you ever go to this place and I suggest you not to do it, ask how much for everything, even if you are a regular or they know you.

I prefer the chili size, ½# is just right. The poppers are the absolute best ever. This my go-to place for a burger.

They have really turned themselves around. I had the steer burger and it was perfectly cooked. They also have an outstanding beer selection, and the waitress we had was quite the little spit fire. The place was packed and she was on top of it, I will totally be going back.

What the heck happened? :/I was here just a few months ago and the food was solid but today it had all gone downhill. Never have had an issue with service, the ladies have always been attentive, friendly and efficient. The prices have gone up, portions smaller, and the quality dropped. I’d say its barely that of any fast food chain. Pass pass pass. The Clairemont location is far better if you’re looking for that nostalgic Bollweevil feel.

Pretty decent burger, hot fries and 20 cold beers on tap including many locals. Had an Alpine Hoppy Birthday, nice to have a low alcohol but above well average beer at lunch. Lots of big screen TV’s. The 2 ladies working were hustling but were very friendly and polite. Good meal, good service, I’ll be back.

Service was horrible, condiments were not fresh and burgers tasted like crap. I gave it one star because the beers were cold!

I’m sad to have to write this review. The little blonde waitress was very sweet and did a good job. That’s where the good stuff ends. My husband and I both ordered burgers, and shared an order of chili cheese fries. The fries were barely like warm same with the chili and the cheese… Yuck. The burger was also just warm… Idk if they cook this stuff fresh or microwave it, but frankly this place is not for food at all. No thank you, never again. My husband did enjoy his ale…

This is my first time here and it was extremely good from the moment I walked in. They have a variety of taps and wines on the bar with specials daily. I had the zucchini sticks with ranch. lemme tell you…(yum!). I also had the turkey burger with avocado on a sourdough bun that was too bomb! It’s a family environment for everyone to come too. Definatly coming back!

I come here once a month or so for happy hour and beers. I like this place for a few reasons, Ashley is AWESOME, when I see that face, I know I’m going to have a good time. She is always keeps the beers full, she’s funny, remembered me the second time I came in, and is always aware and informative on the beers on tap. Second, they always have local, craft brews on rotation and a large selection, but not so large that you’re afraid to get an old keg. Third, happy hour snacks! The pork taco is great, wings are pretty good, and the pretzel tastes like it came out of the freezer paired with that buffalo cheese, I get it almost every time. Of course they have their famous steer burger, which is delicious as well. My only complaint is that service can be slow. It is not the fault of the workers, but the fault of the managers. There really should be a bartender and waitress or a way for the bartender to go to the floor through the bar without having to go through the kitchen when it’s slow. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Completely overrated. I ordered my son chicken nuggets that looked like 4 popcorn shrimp from kfc. The burgers were good, yet overpriced. Five guys makes a better burger. This is the worst location in the chain. I spent nearly $ 40 on dinner for my family of three and would have been more satisfied getting mcdonalds.

The place looks ok from the outside but inside it’s very disorganized. We sat down and waited for 15 minutes and no one brought us water. So we walked out. We won’t be back.

We come here a few times, whenever we want to bundle our trips. hit up here and then Vons, and then Penguin’s, when we truly want to waddle waddle. Anyhow, this place is good, they have a nice burger patty going, and that’s the base for all their burgers. they’re big and juicy and the bun is soft and fresh baked. Good stuff here. I also enjoy the terrayaki chicken sand, love that thing, and its easily half pound of chicken. Their fires are good, crispy and snappy. You get a condiment tray like old days of boll weevil yore, but its a smaller one. but still good. I’ve had their wings and both the sweet bbq and medium hot buffalo style are both tasty. You cant beat their nachos, with refried chips and jalapenos. good stuff. they also sport a strong selection of the local sd brewery scene. its pretty decent with all the options, manzanita, stone, and some others all show up. Boll Weevil’s beer list alone is really good. and their happy hour runs until 7p. Service is good, they’re on you as soon as you come in. There’s some that have good service and some that have only ok, i dont know. We haven’t had a bad experience. good times all around. Now to take down that colossal burger. huge sucker.I swear it’ll bust my gut.

I don’t know why it said it was closed today when it wasn’t? Anyway, I loved it! Delicious burger and many beer choices! Samantha was our server and she was outgoing and great! It was pretty slow when we walked in then as soon as we ordered a bunch of people came in. Can I say we were happy we got there 5 minutes before! They have a few games which is great if you come with the kids so you can spend time with your friends or spouse! Great buffalo fries and I got some onion BBQ burger? It was delicious. They’re not cheap when it comes to the BBQ sauce(thank god!) My only thing is the bar area seemed a little small for a place that has that many drinks and that they should’ve had at least one more server.

Food was hot and pretty damn good. Service sucked. Our waitress looked like she hated her job. Place smelled like a dirty sponge… And they all had shirts advertising different places to eat… oh and beware there is no welcome committee at the front door. you have to walk to the kitchen to get any attention.

My Father in law took me here for lunch today. They have a Wednesday Special which is a ½lb Steerburger for $ 3.99. We both got that(I got mine with American cheese), some fries and a Pepsi. Burger was tasty. Seemed a little light for ½lb though in the sense that I mowed through it rather fast and wasn’t really«full». Fries were cooked perfect… extra crispy and good. Pepsi was Pepsi. Service was great! Our waitress was really friendly. Price=? My father in law paid for our meal. Probably somewhere around $ 20 or so. Not too shabby. I probably won’t ever crave this place, but if someone wanted to come, I would join them because the burgers are pretty tasty. They even have an AYCE1/3lb burgers and fries for $ 9.99 with the purchase of a beverage on one night(forgot what day the sign said… think it was Fridays). Not too shabby.

I stopped in for a burger and learned right away that on Wednesdays you can get a regular ½ pound steer burger for $ 2.99 all day! Yes, $ 2.99!( ) I went ahead and ordered it and added some fresh sliced avocado for $ 1.50 more.( ) I also ordered a side garden salad and I had an iced tea. My side salad came first and it was very simple but good.( ) It came with your typical ingredients including croutons and I had it with their mild vinaigrette and it was descent. The Steer burger was good and came on a warm and moist sesame bun.( ) I added pickles and onions that come in their little plastic containers and they were fresh.( ) The meat was cooked to medium the way I asked and it had a good flavor.( ) The avocados were fresh and ripe. Overall, a good burger but for only $ 2.99, it is a very good burger. The food to me was definitely a 3 star event, but getting a burger for only $ 2.99 that has to count for something. So, Bam! 4 stars for that.
