I’m a bike snob. This is the only place I could trust to work on my custom, hand made bike. They had exactly the parts I needed (mostly Campy stuff). They were super nice and non-​pretentious which I appreciate because even though I’m elitist with respect to bike stuff, I’m still a nerd. Well done, Sirs.

The whole team here are down to earth, super knowledgable great guys who just happen to sell the absolute best gear.

Stumbled across this place one evening and really liked the look and style of the shop. I needed some new shorts so thought I would check it out. Once in, I was really impressed with what was on offer. I met Matt who is a really nice guy, well informed. He helped me out with a few jerseys and a pair of shorts from Q36.5. I am looking forward to trying them out. There are a lot of good cycle shops in the area but I think I will be a regular here for sure. Shame i don’t need a new bike!

Amazing shop, set up like an art studio and the bikes they have in there are truly works of art. These guys are diligent, cool people, crazy knowledgeable, sick inventory, everything seems very well thought out, and the guys are probably very fast cyclists. Can’t recommend them more highly and the Dogma f8 I bought from them is ridiculously sweet. Thanks Chad!

This is by far the best bike shop out there if you are looking for top of the line bikes and clothing. Chad and the team are always friendly and enthusiastic. The workshop at the back is really impressive and their repair service is impeccable.

Above Category is a one of a kind extremely high end cycling shop. They focus on road bikes, but I have seen the occasional XC hardtail. This shop reminds me of my favorite cycling shops in the Seattle area where I grew up. Entering Above Category reminded me of when I was 14, walking into the Pine Street Pro Shop in Seattle’s Captial Hill, and they had a sectioned off area of all the custom Klein road and mountain bikes. Serious Eye Candy, at serious prices, but the best never comes cheap. What I do love about these guys is that whether you buy a $ 15 pair of socks or interested in a $ 15,000 wunder ride, they treat you like a valued customer with none of the pretentious bike snobbery you find in other boutique type shops. I make my way to Above Category whenever I want to feel like a kid again.
The details are what differentiate good from great, and this shop is a truly great shop.

This is hands-​down the best bike shop I have ever seen. They have all my favorite brands — Moots, Pegoretti, Pinarello… the list goes on. These guys are true enthusiasts. They know their stuff, have strong opinions about what they like and are meticulous in their detail. When I visit AC, I’m like a kid in a candy store!

Went in last weekend to buy my husband a birthday gift and received amazing service from the owners and loved the vibe of the entire place. Very knowledgeable, high end merchandise, helpful without being high pressure. I happened to show up when they were closed but they graciously welcomed me and helped me anyway.

Above Category is the best bike shop I have been to in Marin. I’m new to cycling and was impressed with how friendly everyone was. They have excellent product knowledge, helpful/​friendly staff, and they did a great job fixing my bike. You can not go wrong here, this bike shop is amazing.

I moved to the Bay Area 7 months ago and after testing a number of east bay (where I live) and SF shops I was finally relieved to find Above Category… the only shop so far who knows how to build a tubular race wheel correctly! In addition, the service, mechanics and show room staff are all experienced riders and wrenches and know what they are talking about. I have complete confidence in trusting my training and race bikes to AC and even make the drive from the East Bay for it.

I just picked up my Big Leg Emma. Such a beautiful bike. Very under-​stated for the beast that it is. This is way too much bike for me, but rest assured I will ride this thing into the ground.
As always, Chad was a gracious host and very attentive and exact on making sure the bike was perfect. Seriously, can you go wrong with handmade in Italy, Chorus, Deda and Rolf? Only if you want to ride on plastic.
Real Men ride steel (or in my case, boys that aged but never entirely grew up.)
