My then fiancé and I came for dinner, and I never wanted to leave. It truly takes you back to another time, and it almost seems like not much had changed since well… 1790! The dining room is dimly lit, and there are comfy fire places throughout, making for a more romantic atmosphere. We shared an organic bottle of Shiraz(which was delicious!), munched on honey butter biscuits, split the oyster Rockefeller appetizer(also delicious), and for dinner he had the pork, while I had the blackened shrimp. So good! After dinner we chatted with the owner, Patty, who was very welcoming and sweet. Next time we’re in Savannah, we’ll be coming back!

Celebrated my birthday with a night at this restaurant. Ambiance was perfect. Dimly lit with multiple chandeliers, exposed brick walls, tables not too crowded together, piano player in one corner playing at just the right volume. Food was good — would give food a four and ambiance a 5 plus! Scallops were delicious, salmon and crab scrumptious. However shrimp were small and barely warm. Appetizer menu has many mouthwatering seafood choices — it was almost impossible to decide. Service was good. I will definitely go back on future visits to Savannah.

My fiancé and I are visitors of Savannah and we had a fantastic experience in the dining area tonight! Our server was extremely nice and went above and beyond in terms of attentiveness and helpfulness! This place is great because my fiancé loved his seafood dish(and the crab stew especially) but they also had a variety of vegetarian options, which was helpful because I don’t eat fish or meat which often holds us back from seafood or even surf & turf restaurants. We loved the food and wine, and the honey biscuits were an added bonus. Would definitely recommend not only for the food but also because we were truly thrilled with the service and also the ambience!

Good wine, don’t get a salad thinking its a light meal(only about 5 pieces of lettuce that’s overpriced). Super cool atmosphere and very awesome piano is player. Key lime pie is delicious.

We stayed here while vacationing in Savannah for our anniversary. While the breakfast part of the«bed and breakfast» was only average, our accommodations were perfect! Supposedly, the inn is supposed to be haunted, but we didn’t stay in the haunted part, and we didn’t experience anything unusual. The ambiance in the hotel is great though. I recommend room 303 Queen. It isn’t located in the main inn, but is about a half block away and occupies the entire top floor of a house owned by the 17hundred90 Inn. It includes a bedroom, a large bath and a living room. Bottom line: Breakfast isn’t very exciting here. But we really liked this place and we’ll definitely be back!

Had lunch and dinner here 5÷17÷16. Lunch of flatbread pizza and brisket for my wife was great. Only one waiter and he was awesome seeing to everyone’s needs. Had dinner here because it was pouring out and we were staying here at the inn. Dinner of scallops and shrimp was perfectly cooked. My wife’s pork chop was perfect. Only bad point was our dinner waiter who was far from attentive. My stay at the inn was awesome with a very friendly and helpful staff. I definitely will stay here next time I visit Savannah !!!

We were planning to go to the Alligator Soul, but because we were staying at 17Hundred90 Inn we decided to have dinner there. The idea was to experience Southern cooking(and hospitality). I believe we achieved our goal. We had crab stew, shrimp and grits, crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, red trout, and pecan pie. Overall everything seems to be on the sweet side(not complaining — just saying) Everything was reasonably priced, including the wine. We were in Savannah only for one day, so I don’t know much about the culinary scene here. There might be other better restaurants, but if you want to get an idea about Southern cooking I think the restaurant represents it well.

The place boasts all of the southern charm you’d expect to find at an Inn in Savannah, Ga. We met for book club and I think everyone left totally satisfied. First off the biscuits are sooooo amazing!!! I literally had to stop my self. I wasn’t super hungry so I opted for the shrimp and grits which was the perfect portion if you didn’t have a big appetite but it was definitely NOT short on flavor. All of the spices and textures melded well into one delicious delicacy. The house dressing on their garden salad was also pretty amazing. The next time I visit, I’ll definitely make sure I have a great appetite! The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star(wish they had a 4.5) is because our waiter wasn’t very attentive.

Had dinner there this Monday. Ambience is nice — quiet and low-key. The history of the restaurant is quite interesting and while we did not see any ghosts we did keep an eye out! Service was good and food came out quickly. Food was cooked perfectly and was excellent. Definitely try this place if you’re looking for a romantic, causally dressy spot.

The worst brunch I’ve ever had in my life. Ever. I made reservations on and was running late on Sunday morning, so I called to push it back a half hour. I was put on hold and the person then acted confused and flustered before saying that was ok. Then when we showed up, the place was almost completely empty. We stood there in the entryway for close to two minutes before we were even acknowledged. We were then brought to a table and given a menu, which was pretty uninspired. I had an omelet, which was ok, nothing fantastic, nothing particularly bad. Just standard. My husband got the chicken and waffles, which was regular chicken fingers on a sad waffle. However, my friend had the most offensive eggs benedict ever. It was brought to him, and it was clearly missing an integral ingredient — hollandaise sauce. He realized this after the waitress took off, and she didn’t come back to check for awhile, so he asked a different waiter for the sauce. This waiter sighed and complained about having to help us — listen, buddy, take your gripes to the manager, not us. Cold hollandaise sauce was brought out. Not correct — it’s supposed to be served warm. When we bring this up again when we get assistance, the waitress leaves and then comes back to say she can’t warm it up because it takes too long to heat it up properly on the stove and putting it in the microwave will cause it to curdle. So she just apologizes and that’s that. No problem solving, no offering to cook the whole thing from scratch, nothing. Additionally, the eggs were completely overcooked. There was no nice oozing a poached egg should have — the yolk was overcooked and not runny at all. Terrible terrible eggs benny. The problems here were all over the place — management for not fixing the attitude issues, awful wait staff who were rude and also not competent at noticing what was key pieces were clearly missing from a plate, and the kitchen staff for not cooking the items properly and not putting a proper plate together. When our checks came, we were fully charged for all of the entrees, including the eggs benedict. I have never ever seen a restaurant fully charge for an entrée they personally failed to deliver. STAYAWAY.

Great location, awesome rooms, accommodating staff. We loved this place as soon as we checked in. Very historic hotel with fantastic on sight restaurant & bar. They also serve a continental breakfast but we were so much on the go we never tried but it looked delicious aw we passed it by in the mornings. The parking is quite tricky, they have 19 parking spots for 26 rooms. But they were able to find us parking every night. They even moved & parked the car for us while we were in the bar enjoying beverages & conversation. It’s old but elegant with antiques everywhere. creaky old floors & furniture but beautifully decorated. We will definitely make this our port each time we go to visit our daughter there.

The dining area was beautifully historic. The crab stew was delicious. The rest of the food was good and priced fairly. However, the service was disgraceful. Our waiter was classless, rude and condescending. With that, I won’t be back and can’t recommend this place to others.

The atmosphere is the best thing about 17hundred90. The building serves an inn and restaurant, so when we arrived, the couple in front of us was checking into a room while we were checking into a table. It was very European. The dining hall was large and dim and comfortable, with several fireplaces. One corner of the room was taken up by a grand piano, which I’m not totally into during dinner, but this fellow was both excellent and appropriately quiet. I think the spouse gave him a bigger tip than we gave our waiter. Our meal started with the best biscuit I have ever had. I’d go back just for the biscuit. For dinner, I ordered the shrimp and scallop linguini while the spouse ordered filet. The shrimp was cooked well but oversalted, and the linguini was fine. I did not like the scallops but I suspect it’s because I don’t like scallops. They could have been seared more crisply but otherwise the fault lies with me. Overall my plate was fine. The spouse’s filet was fine, the mashed potatoes were fine, and the slightly al dente green beans were fine. It was a solid meal but nothing exciting. We didn’t order dessert. Bottom line: food was fine, our water/busboy should have been our waiter, the biscuits should win an award.

I was excited to try this place, but left disappointed. It should be noted that from the time we walked in until the time our food came there were only two other customers in the bar area. 1) We sat at the bar and were far from feeling welcome, due to the bartenders dismissive style. I just felt like I was annoying her the entire time which felt uncomfortable. I understand we came at 2 and the kitchen closes for an hour or two at 3, so maybe(?) It’s a little more understandable but not really. I ordered a beer and was never offered another once I’d finished. The blonde dude with glasses was much nicer and actually checked in with us from time to time toward the end of our meal. 2) We ordered the jambalaya and a Reuben after inquiring about dairy content in the jambalaya. Apparently that’s an annoying thing to do. But people make jambalaya in all sorts of different ways sometimes(as we were soon to find out) so we thought we would make sure. 3) Complimentary biscuits would be awesome except that they were raw. I let them know, not because I necessarily wanted a replacement, but because I thought they should know. She threw mine away and brought another. It was also raw, but they were«in a hurry getting them out of the oven because they were slammed» and«she already let them know» Being slammed is not a good reason to serve raw food? And replacing it with more raw food isn’t a good solution? And then being annoyed with the person and saying you already tried telling the kitchen doesn’t really fly with most people? I donno, whatever they were complimentary. 4) So I get that there are different forms of Jambalaya, but this was a far cry from even the most tomato-based city jambalaya I’ve ever seen. There was no spice whatsoever, except maybe oregano, and it was as if canned tomatoes and spaghetti sauce were mixed with shredded chicken, rice and overcooked shrimp. I wouldn’t expect this quality and style of jambalaya in even the most northernmost bastardization of the dish, so it was disappointing. 5) The Reuben tasted good — the corned beef was thick(one star for that, one for he old building and décor) but a bit skimpy for an 11 dollar sandwich. There wasn’t much sauerkraut and the bread was thin. There were black grill bits stuck to the sandwich, indicating the kitchen must have been«far too slammed» to scrape off the grill, probably because they were too busy taking the raw biscuits out of the oven. I think in Savannah there are certain restaurants that will get business regardless of quality or service, just because it’s a tourist trap. This is one of them, and it’s sad because I wanted it to be good. Maybe I’ll try again, maybe not, but the overall quality of food and ingredients suggested maybe some of the problems are more high-up than a rude bartender and frazzled cook. Update: I came in at 6:30pm on a Wednesday, just for a quick drink. Also I have a hard time not giving places at least something that resembles a second chance. I sat for 20 minutes before being served or acknowledged(no one else was either, not many people here… don’t get it…) all the while being exposed to Fox News. I just don’t see the appeal of this place outside the building and history, sorry.

I had their special which was a fish I’d never heard of — all the waiter could tell me about it was it’s white — I was looking for type. It was fine. My wife had pork osso buco which(bummer :)) I had to help her finish as it was a lot of meat. It was delicious! Absolutely delicious. We were too full for desert but what went by looked good. The fried green tomatoes we had were OK, nothing to write home about but I generally find them rather tasteless(I keep trying to find some great ones — suggestions welcome). Their wine list is good and reasonably priced. The building itself is wonderful — nice and cosy brick lined room with two large fireplaces. I’d definitely go back.

Who wouldn’t like to have a beer with a ghost? If you know Savannah history, I’m sure you’ve heard the story of Mrs. Anne, the tragic young woman that has never left the 1790 Inn. If you’re into bumps in the night, come down to the bar to get a drink, or book yourself a night in one of the many rooms. This particular visit, is about the bar. Maybe I’ll dare to stay in the honeymoon suite, where Mrs. Anne frequents, another day. Even though this bar is definitely on the tourist map, it still feels very tucked away and local. It’s not the place to go if you want loud music and dancing, but if you want to change the pace and have a drink in a historic building, come on in. Their key lime and upside down cake shots are recommended by everyone. They taste just like their namesakes, and they might open you up more to seeing some spirits! The bartending staff isn’t over friendly, but if you roll with a crew, bring em in for a drinking spot off the beaten path.

Went here on a Saturday for dinner with a party of 8. I had already made reservations online, so we were seated quickly. We reached the place a little early so we all hung out at the bar, which is pretty nice lobby looking area. The drinks range from $ 11 to whatever. My friend got whiskey on the rocks which costed him $ 12. Even though it was just whiskey on ice, it killed the vibe because they gave the drink in a plastic cup. Whiskey in a plastic cup? BUMMER! We were dining with them so they could have easily given him a glass cup. One of my other friends got a Martini and she didn’t think it was a good too. To start with, they gave us all bread, which was delicious. Unlike other restaurants they don’t give you a basket of bread for the table instead they gave us all one piece each. I got Fried Brie Cheese with pecan crust for my appetizer, which was definitely not what I expected. None of my friends who got it were happy about it. My friends who got the Escargot were really happy, they loved it. I got the Swordfish for my entrée. It was delicious and had enough pesto sauce on top. It comes with vegetables which were great too. For dessert, I got the chocolate bomb, it was rich and delicious. My friend got the bread pudding, which is probably the best bread pudding I have ever had. Totally recommend the bread pudding. I will be returning to this place for dinner but not drinks.

Valentines Day brunch with my wife. Outstanding all the way around. Service was always attentive without being pushy. Food was superb. Restaurant was intimate and cozy. Noise level was very low(even though the restaurant was about two-thirds full). Truly a hit with us. We will most definitely return.

I wish I had discovered this place sooner. The staff was very polite, and the menu states the chef will work with both allergies and dietary preferences. I lucked out and the special was a beautiful portion of slow roasted pork, fingerlings, sweet and sour cabbage, and mustard sauce. It was one of the best meals I’ve had. That and a glass of wine was $ 20 well spent.

Let me start out by saying that I am very finicky. Very finicky. My wife and I came here for lunch and she ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer. I love grits but shrimp des not belong in them. Ok, I was wrong again. I have to say that it was a 15 on a scale of 1 – 10! If you’re from the north I just ask you to try them.

Great food and service at the restaurant, we really enjoyed our dinner and wine there and the waiter was really sweet. Seafood and steak were cooked and presented beautifully. Scott was at the bar our first night staying here and he was fantastic. A woman was running the bar late the next night and too preoccupied with restocking to close us out even though there were only a few patrons. It was kind of strange waiting longer to pay than it took us to order and finish our drinks.
We stayed in the Inn for two nights and it was OK. Got specific instructions about using the do-not-disturb sign but it was nowhere to be found. TV remote also missing, but a maid brought one in after the request was made. Street noise was inevitable but the noise from the room directly above us plus the slamming door to the exit was surprisingly loud. Nice that breakfast was included, but there were no spoons out for the yogurt/cereal/coffee that were offered. Great location in the historic district and we were lucky enough to snag a parking spot in the lot, so I do recommend the Inn and Restaurant if you’re visiting Savannah.

An enthusiastic 5 stars for delicious food and fabulous ambiance. We had dinner reservations for two at 6:30. We were seated promptly and allowed to choose which table we preferred. The main dining area is very intimate and tastefully decorated. There was also a talented pianist in the corner who added even more to the experience. We ordered the cranberry stuffed pork loin and lamb ribs. Both were excellent, but the pork loin was one of the best things we’d ever eaten. Highly recommend it and cannot wait to go back and order it again. Our very friendly server suggested White Hart Pinot Noir and Gnarly Stump(??) Pinot Grigio to pair. They were both very reasonably priced and paired well with our meals. The menu doesn’t list what sides come with your entrée. Ours both came with red skinned mashed potatoes and one had green beans(excellent, very fresh) and the other had seasonal vegetables(unimpressive, but I don’t care for summer squashes). The potatoes were some of the best we could recall eating. Overall, this is a fabulous restaurant. The historic inn gives it great ambiance and the nice servers and amazing food make it really stand out.

Over priced and under serviced. While the bartender Scott was all efficiency, friendliness and helpful with cocktails before dinner, the service in the dining room was hurried, brusque and downright rude. Went in with my brother when hardly anyone was in the dining room(5pm reservation) and seated next to the drafty door. Our waiter failed to give us his name and was very perfunctory about specials and wine. We had a 7:00 theater reservation, so plenty of time to enjoy dinner. We did not enjoy dinner because we were practically rushed through each course. The waiter was visibly annoyed that we wanted coffee following dinner. No espresso options and the waiter slapped the bill down next to my brother as we’re trying to drink slowly. Bad service, passable food and limited ambiance. Definitely a place to MISS out on if you want to preserve your Savannah experience.

Came here for a fabulous lunch while visiting. The restaurant is so lovely inside with fireplaces, brick, dim lights, so comfortable you feel as if you are dining in someone’s house. I started with a lovely glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent. I can just imagine having dinner here, quite romantic. I decided to have the crab cake on a croissant with fries. So happy I ordered the right dish, it was so delicious. the crab cake was the perfect texture, moist, great flavor on a soft buttery fresh croissant. Hubby had the shrimp and grits which he devoured in a matter of minutes he enjoyed it so much. The prices are reasonable, the food is excellent. Great place for lunch or dinner. This will remain on my list for the next visit to go back for a lovely dinner. You can’t go wrong here. Great restaurant.

This review is just for the inn, we did not go to the restaurant. 1790 is immensely charming and really embodies the spirit of the city. We were lucky to be in room 104, which has its own entrance! The only negatives about the room is that the bedposts covered the TV so it was hard to watch in bed; the walls were also relatively thin so it could get loud at times. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable, the room was large, and we had no hauntings! The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely come back but next time try the restaurant as well.

I have very little to say about the restaurant or bar, actually, as I was here for just a few minutes by way of the Savannah Slow Ride, but I have to put in a recommendation for the«hippie juice» cocktail they were serving out of a huge dispenser that day. It had watermelon in it so I was intrigued, but it was also made out of rum and vodka and so I almost didn’t get it as those are my least favorite liquors. Luckily a friend took a chance on it, and once I had a sip of hers I was sold sold sold. I don’t know if this is a regular on the drink menu, but it definitely should be!

This was my favorite bar I visited while on my weekend trip to Savannah. We found it by way of our Slo-ride tour and was happy we did! We obviously only had a drink here so I can’t rate the food but the drinks we did have were awesome. They had a homemade mint julep brewing as well as a house made sangria, both were delicious! The bartender gave us a quick rundown of the bar and it’s past, which was fascinating. The bartenders were friendly and fun. I’ll definitely stop back in on my next trip!

We started of with the complimentary biscuits which our smothered in a sweet honey glaze. These are lovely biscuits that are light as a cloud that carries the sweet flavor of buttermilk. Next I enjoyed the Guinness beer infused beef stew as the soup of the day. It consisted of moist tender chunks of beef and cubes of yellow potatoes. Next we had the fried to a golden brown chicken breast which had a nice crunch. The chicken was filled with Boursin cheese which was creamy and flavorful. The side dishes were the only disappointment. The mashed potatoes were very under seasoned and the mixed vegetables were quite undercooked. The waiter was friendly and attentive. There is a ghost peeping out of a window upstairs. You can see it from across the street.

We wanted to go somewhere special for my grandmother’s 83rd birthday dinner. While perusing Unilocal,I came across 17 Hundred 90. I saw that it is in a historic inn and is one of the most haunted buildings in Savannah. The food looked good, also, so we decided to give it a whirl. It was great! We arrived and were pleasantly surprised to see live piano music and fireplaces in each room. How cozy! We were given the option to sit in the main dining room or in a smaller more intimate dining room. We chose the more intimate spot so that we could chat easier. We were escorted to our table and were promptly greeted by our waitress. We started with a bottle of red wine and the complimentary biscuits. The biscuits were smothered with honey and my grandmother made the comment that in her 83 years, these were the best biscuits she had ever had. I mean, they were TASTY! Onto the main course! I went for the filet mignon, which was NOT a mistake. It was a very delicious steak served with mashed potatoes and green beans. Grandmother and sister got boursin chicken and a pork special with cranberry and both were very happy with their meals. At the end of the meal, our waitress let us know that we got a complimentary dessert because we were celebrating a birthday. Being the chocolate lovers that we are, we mutually decided on the chocolate bomb. This little ball of amazingness was so rich and so good. We had a fabulous dinner at 17 Hundred 90 and loved every minute of it!
