We had the baked Brie and tomato pie with the kale/Brussels sprouts slaw and it was fantastic! I wish I could recreate these recipes because we live out of state. Loved the shops and the service was good, too.

You’ll be in for an experience if it is your first time dining at this establishment. When you enter through the gates of the property, you are welcomed by a huge mansion that I would someday love to live in perhaps. The atmosphere here is excellent, something that you would not expect for this side of town. Our table was the only«younger» folks”, most of the patrons seem like their well over 40. The service here is excellent, they have always tried to make things right when there was a problem with the food. The seafood here is excellent, and their crab cakes are a to-die for.

This is a very unique restaurant. The crab cakes are excellent. My wife had salmon and loved it. The monkey bread cinnamon roll is unbelievable! Trevor was fantastic! This is a must visit restaurant!

We ate here last night as a party of four. I would give this more than 3 ½ stars if the service had not been so problematic. The food was really good, especially the perfectly executed blackened salmon and the outstanding she crab soup. The fried green tomatoes were lightly breaded and served with goat cheese and were delicious. However, our server made several mistakes in executing our order. For example, my soup was served after the entrée and only when one our dining group pointed out that I had not been served it when the salads were served. The manager did bring it to the table with his apologies, but our server seemed completely uninterested in our table until she brought the bill. I am hoping that this is only a rough beginning with possibly new staff because I would really like to give this restaurant another chance since the food was quite good. By the way, the restaurant was not crowded or busy and we dined after 7:00 p.m. so the spotty service was not due to a busy night. Given the previous reviews regarding service issues, perhaps lunch would be a better time to dine here.

Outstanding in every way!!! Fabulous food served by our charming and efficient waiter JaCori. My salmon was perfectly prepared. Being from California I wanted to try something«Southern» so went for the succotash with Georgia peas and Tasso(a kind of ham) and it was incredible. One of my friends raved about the short ribs. Naturally we had to order the bourbon pecan pie for dessert and it was perfect. The new chef is amazing! Do not miss dinner at Cohens Retreat!!!

Fantastic. Great food and exceptional service. I was skeptical because of some of the reviews on here, but I experienced zero issues when I went for lunch yesterday. I will definitely be going back!

My mom and I stumbled upon Cohen’s Retreat on our road trip and LOVED it. The décor is gorgeous and the food is amazing. I know that a great wait staff can really make or break a visit for me and every single employee was beyond friendly.(Seriously, they should all work at Disney World since they’re so nice.) Our waiter, Jacorey(spelling?) was so sweet and welcoming. It also looks like a perfect place for a bridal shower or private event. The outside of the building was kind of deceiving – apparently it was a type of senior citizen housing unit back on the day. But this place blew me away. The only disappointing thing was that I don’t live close enough to come all the time.

The food and dining experience is fine. It is a bit out of the way, but for locals, I can say we had a nice lunch with decent service. The waiter was very attentive, but my salad with«dressing on the side» came out with dressing on it, and my guest did not get the correct soup with her order. There were few other patrons there, so the failure to correct the mistakes was disappointing. The food we ate was good. When the check came, I proffered a gift certificate that had been bought at CH the previous year with cash. The chef came out to decline our method of payment, saying they would not honor this because it was not theirs. My review is to advise diners that this is a brand new chef and a new management/ownership group, so it is NOT the Cohen’s Retreat that built a good reputation. They refused to honor a gift certificate purchased at Cohen’s Retreat with cash, saying it was not theirs because it was sold by the prior owner. They advised me where the previous chef was now working. I had guests with me or I would have complained more vigorously. Unless a business is willing to accept the liabilities of a previous owner, they should advise all customers that this is a NEW restaurant and not related to the previous Cohen’s Retreat. There was no such notice posted, and I was suspicious about how the waiter bailed and got the chef to address us. By the way — I resolved it with the previous owner who helped me understand the circumstances(it was not an authorized gift certificate and was signed by someone not affiliated with his restaurant, which was a tenant of Cohen’s Retreat)

I went for lunch 2 weeks ago and I must say it was amazing. First, the service was outstanding. Our waiter told us that Cohen’s retreat had a new chef and new management and that they will open for dinner soon.(I think the 9th or 19th of January cant remember). It’s a beautiful place. I went back for lunch again last Saturday with my friends and they all loved it. I ordered tomato pie which I never had before and it was amazing. Than I ordered a muffuletta panini that was perfect. I can’t wait to go to dinner soon. Over all I must say this was one of the best lunches I had in a long time.

Last night five of us went to Cohen’s Retreat to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Being new to SAV this was my first-and last time there. I ordered from the evening’s specials, pan seared duck topped with foie gras with a cherry sauce. Keep in mind that I ordered the dish because I love foie gras. When my dinner arrived, the foie gras was missing so I asked the server about it. She came back from the kitchen and said chef said he’s out of foie gras but we’ll take $ 4 off the bill. I said that’s not the point, I felt like I didn’t get what I ordered. Not wanting to make a scene I kept my mouth shut and ate the duck and side dishes. It all very flavorful but the duck breast was very tough and come out rare not medium rare as the server said. I had to use a steak knife to manage the duck. Everyone else enjoyed their food, and I must say I really enjoyed the 2 apps we shared, fried green tomatoes and fried calamari. As a foodie and professional chef myself, I felt that the manager should know about my experience. After 2 messages not being returned, I finally got to speak with HERB who said very proudly that he is the manager. I calmly explained my experience then waited for a response. He said«I’m surrounded by 30 people, I have to go where it’s quieter». He then said and I must quote him on this, «Lady, don’t ever come back to my restaurant, you suck as a customer and you’re a miserable woman». OMG I couldn’t believe what I heard. Who speaks to a guest like that ?? Cohen’s Retreat is run by a lunatic.

The food is great. Service is wonderful. Everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and it tastes as good as sit looks. I would have loved to eat everyone’s food. I’ve looked at that building for years and I’m so happy they have turned it in to a great place.

We went for restaurant week and it was amazing. They have grown leaps and bounds since their opening week! They even worked with us to squeeze us in while they were booked. They called us the next morning and let us know about an opening around a more preferable time. Service was excellent food was fantastic. Only down side is they are too close to a church to serve liquor. Not their fault. Wine selection made up for it!

No son of lion meat on the menu so the backlash reviews must have worked! I honestly liked my meal. I ate with a large group and no one had a bad thing to say.

We ate here a couple weeks ago for restaurant week and it was honestly the best meal we’ve had in a long time. The service was lacking(felt like they were overwhelmed with res week, or maybe short-staffed) which is the only thing that kept this from 5 stars. Between my husband and I we had the salad, venison meatballs, cioppiono, and canolli cake. Everything was fresh and very flavorful! I hate to see this place getting poor reviews for being innovative.(You mean to tell me lions have feelings but that tuna you’re eating doesn’t, or isn’t as threatened?)

Do not eat here – they serve lion meat, which is NOT inspected by the USDA and may be hazardous to customers. Further, lions are a threatened species, and destroying them for food only encourages the hunting and killing of these animals. Please take your business to a more responsible restaurant.

Our first visit to Cohen’s was a very good experience. We started with the tuna tar tar which was okay, very Mundane taste. We also had the drunken hen and the South Carolina black bass. Both meals were delicious. The server informed us they are working on getting their liquor license and at this time only have beer and wine. Fast forward to our second visit… Not so great. I once again had the drunken hen and my husband had the Virginia Striped Bass. The Hen was horrible. It had a Open Pit BBQ sauce on it. The Virginia Bass was fine. For dessert we had the key lime pie which was exquisite. I am not sure why they changed their glaze on the hen, but certainly a poor choice. The ambience is lovely. They have a nice color scheme and good background music. Overall the staff was friendly and attentive. We would definitely consider going back as they have a ton of potential, however it would be nice if they work on their menu selection and taste a little more.
