I was hoping this was one of those hole in the wall places with amazing food. It’s not. First, the waitress needed some basic training. She showed up after we had literally 30 seconds with the menu to ask what we wanted but never showed up to ask how the food was. So let me tell you — Bland and low quality sums it up. The cold, over cooked hush puppies didn’t have corn in them and my fried flounder sandwich had the skin left on. When she came to clear the baskets, I asked if that was normal and she said yes. I’ve had many flounder sandwiches and never had it that way. Nor would I recommend it. The buns were stale. My husband’s Mahi sandwich was equally as bland. I’m giving it two stars for the atmosphere basically — it could be a fun place to sit outside with some drinks. Just skip the food.

We had just arrived on Tybee and yes it was Saturday at prime dining time but couldn’t wait the 2.5 hours to be seated. So, we ventured out. We found this restaurant and decided why not. We had been given a wait time of about a hour for our party of 8. We sat in the outside waiting area that was comfortable, like sitting on the back deck. We had a couple of cold drinks and were soon notified our table was ready after only about 45 minutes. Our server was delightful and honest. She told us that the food coming out was taking a little longer than normal but she would get it out ASAP. We ordered some appetizers and they were spot on good! Our meals came out shortly after all in all not a extended time as we thought, given the time and weekend. The meals were very good everyone was served and we all enjoyed our meals together. The entire staff we had enteraction with were friendly, helpful and professional. Our server Laiken was great! She keep us informed and drinks filled. We will be at Tybee for the week and will go back. Thank you for the great first night experience.

1st time here and had the 1lb of peel and eat shrimp. The shrimp looked great and had seasonings all over them but they had no taste. Nice place overall and I will try them again but will definitely try a different dish

This place was great. Environment, food, service, everything. I got the mahi tacos which were excellent. My husband got a platter with mahi, shrimp, oysters, and crab cake. His mahi was over cooked, but I’m still giving them 5 stars because they recooked it for him and it was perfect! Our waitress was fabulous, the hostess was polite, and the manager walked around asking how things were going. We were seated outside near the live music and enjoyed it. We were told it may be up to a 55 minute wait, but only waited about 20 mins. There was plenty of seating near the live music to wait for you to be called. They take your cell number and text you when your table is ready, which I thought was pretty neat. I will definitely come back when I am in the area.

Rainy day and wanted to have seafood and drinks. Was seated by not friendly hostess and after 15 minutes no one took our order. Several wait staff saw us and passed by and never ask if we wanted anything. So if the food was good I don’t know because we left. Bad service

Place was fantastic!!! Got mikes buffalo shrimp, mahi sandwich and ½ lb of peel shrimp. Everything was fresh and delicious. Our waitress, Ashley from Michigan was super nice and friendly. Wouldn’t think to stop here if we didn’t get peaches and tomatoes at the corner stop. Glad we did, would stop here again.

The food was great seafood! The crab and spinach dip was absolutely amazing. The service and atmosphere did leave something to be desired… but the food made up for it. Left completely stuffed and satisfied!

Fish tacos were delicious! And ordered a platter of shrimp, sausages and potatoes and corn! It said for 2 but way more food that needed for 2! 3 people can share this! It was excellent! It’s a hole in the wall but very cute! Staff was friendly!

Great food on a hot Saturday afternoon. Seafood platter was tasty and generous. The shrimp teaser was fresh and hot. Service was quick and pleasant. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

I always enjoy the Flying Fish. Their crab cakes are the best ever. Loaded with lots of good crabmeat. Blackened mahi tacos are a favorite too. My family loves their fried shrimp. Cole slaw and tomato salad are also excellent. Their ‘island atmosphere ’ is also fun and part of the trip.

This place is awesome! Health score is high and bathrooms are clean. The food is ALWAYS yummy! I usually order the seafood boil(crab, shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, slaw and hush puppies) & I’ll order a large platter with fried seafood and a couple apps. That will feed four and costs less than $ 100. Well over $ 100 after I tip. I read reviews about the wait before I went my first time so… I order everything the first time I see the server and verify everything before they put in the order. I also don’t get anything but seafood. I would never go to a seafood Shack for a salad/Alfredo/sandwich or anything of the nature. I get the boil & usually one other dish(fried seafood) ** crack crab legs from the tip working down to get the tendon out and the meat come out with ease lol The servers/owner is nice. Alcoholic drinks are good and costs less than driving to wet willies on Tybee. Great place to get food and eat before heading to the beach or take to the beach. I drive from Atlanta to eat here!

What a find, as SC tourists, we were looking for a place to eat and stumbled across the Flying Fish quite by accident. The service was good and the food was really great. We had the fried shrimp for two and our friends had the fried fish for two which was enough for 4 people. I don’t know when we will be back in this area but when we do the Flying Fish will be our first stop.

The food here is delicious and reasonably priced. This place was recommended by the tour guide at the Tybee Island visitor center. I recommend the low country boil for two. It was enough food for two and maybe even another person. The shrimp was delicious and very fresh. The only con was that it was a little hard to find, kinda hiding behind the trees.

Been coming here for about six months, mainly for lunch. The service was good in the beginning, but recently has become mediocre at best. The food is mostly fried, and can vary in quality. Be prepared to wait.

If I had the capability to give the Flying Fish 3.5 stars I would. There were somethings that were really pleasing and others that weren’t. Ok so restaurant vibe: beach dive with plastic utensils and paper plates. But more or less clean. Food: Here my party was mixed. I am a fish eater so I got the mahi mahi skewers with cherry tomatoes, okra, and rice. The fish was simply prepared with probably some olive oil and a few seasonings but it was good and worth the money. The others at the table had non fish items and were very disappointed. One of my fellow diners got the fettuccine Alfredo and another got a chicken sandwich. They said the everything tasted like it was bought at Costco. I think they have some culpability in their dissatisfaction because hello! The place is called the flying fish! So maybe if you want to come to the flying fish but eat non fish items you are better off elsewhere. Service: we were able to put our drink orders in really fast. They were attentive with refills and gave us to-go cups. Our waitress even snuck a few hush puppies on my plate because I told her I liked them and she didn’t charge us :) So all in all this place is good for seafood but not so good for everything else.

Love this place!!! Came here on our trip across country! We got the steam pot with crab legs, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, cole slaw and corn and hush puppies!!! Very impressive! This is definitely enough to feed 2 – 3 people. The crab legs were amazing! They came right out of their shell and were so flavorful! Even the potatoes were amazing!!! The coke slaw was fresh and crisp with wonderful dressing. We also got the crawfish, they were delectable the spice on both the steam pot and crawfish was so good that you didn’t even need the drawn butter or cocktail sauce! If you’re reading negative review of this place don’t pay them any attention … The place was very clean and we received our food in a timely manner and our server James was wonderful and very attentive! And the food is fantastic! Five stars and two thumbs up!

In one word… Disgusting! Do not go here! Walking in the place was dirty and disheveled. But still had high hopes that this was a dive with good seafood. Nope! Service was slow with a restaurant half full. Daughter had chicken wings. They came out rubbery and bland. Husband had meatloaf special that he said was just okay. Menu said two pieces, he only got one. I had my usual crab leg splurge. They came out brown with that nasty green stuff inside the many knuckles I rec’d. Cracking the legs was a tedious pain. Not one came out smoothly. Asked for the Mgr and the owner came out. He said they are shipped in frozen. Then proceeded to try and give me a lesson on how to crack them open. Uhhh. Hello! Seriously?! No apologies or offer to replace with another item. I’d give a 0 rating if I could. Only ate half, what a waste of $ 20!

Typical beach dive atmosphere, menu and some ugly UGA décor. Friendly servers and bartender. Long waits for food, even when the place is not crowded. Food is served on Styrofoam, drinks in plastic cups. Mike’s wings sauce was tasty but the wings were cold. Disappointing after a long wait. After many days of seafood overload, opted for beef and ordered cheeseburgers and fries. Another long wait. Large, hot burger cooked to order and generous side of hot fries. Delicious tomatoes! Very pleased.

Fresh seafood and sweet service! We had the country boil for lunch. It came with really yummy hush puppies and homemade cole slaw both were excellent! The low country boil had 1lb of shrimp, snow crab legs, sausage, and red potatoes. Very reasonably priced. I’d definitely come back the next time I’m in town. I loved the hush puppies!

We wanted to try someplace new. I read the reviews and the lower reviews seemed to be about lunch, atmosphere and slow service. Since we live near the beach, we understand slower service so we tried it anyway. When we arrived it was fairly early for dinner. There was about 5 or 6 tables, both inside and out, that had patrons and a couple people at the bar. We ordered the low country tacos and conch fritters as our appetizers and then the fried captain platter for the entrée. It took quite a while for the appetizers to come out(we had even commented that we thought we would get them with the entrée)…but we understand that made to order takes time. The low country tacos were very tasty. The conch fritters were OK. The dipping sauce for the fritters was some weird marmalade horseradish type mixture. We waited about another 30 minutes and saw a table that had come in long after us receive their entrees. We inquired about the food and were told that the kitchen yelled at her for asking so she couldn’t ask again but she was upset because none of her table had their food. We watched two other tables who came in after us get their entrees and then requested out check with our entrée removed. In total we were there an hour and fifteen minutes. It appeared that other waitstaff was being favored and that the kitchen was poorly managed or understaffed or both. There was someone there who looked like an owner or manager but he never approached us.
