We tried to go to this restaurant yesterday and it was closed. We were told by a neighborhood walker that they have moved. Not sure where. The phone number says the number has been changed to an unknown number. Call first and get an address if you want to try this restaurant.

Stopped in for lunch. I was in town from Maryland with my with wife. My brother who is local(SC) also joined us. We had two smothered pork chop dinners and one turkey wing dinner. Each came with three side dishes; between the three of us we had greens, yams, mac and cheese, green beans and peas. Everything was delicious. I was the only one who had dessert — red velvet cake that was outstanding. Warm and friendly customer service. Definitely would visit again. Dennis & Nadine

Driving from Miami Beach to Washington DC, decided to stop in Savannah and taste some real southern food! This place is a hole in the wall… With beautiful people working there and some amazing soul food! May have to stop back on the way back home.

This place is off the beaten path, but so worth the trip! We met Ida, the owner and Tony who served us. There were several choices of mains, and you had to choose 3 sides. We both had the ox tail, and my sides were collard, mac and cheese, and beef rice. It was all delicious. Make sure to choose their sweet tea as a beverage… the best I’ve ever had. Too full eat have dessert, I had to buy the peach cobbler for later. Ida threw in a red velvet, on the house! They are welcoming, helpful and generous!

The sign looked a little rough but inside was cute and cozy with a lunch counter 2 tables and a buffet in the back. The owners Ida and Willie are really nice and the food was great! Sweet potato pie was really yummy. All the sides are wonderful! Fried chicken and meatloaf great! It’s worth a stop!

The best soul food in Savannah… and possibly in the entire South. Neighborhood Soulfood is a tiny, hole-in-the-wall restaurant that reminded me of my beloved Tucker’s Restaurant back home in Cincinnati. It’s been around for ages, run by Mom, Pop, and the family. Neighborhood Soulfood easily keeps their community fed by offering hearty, homecooked portions for low cost. Walk in the door: counters on the left, two tables on the right. In traditional Savannah style, all of the customers will call out, «Hi!» upon your entrance. It’s like Cheers, sans the alcohol. The first thing that caught my eye were the four gallon buckets of fresh made sweet tea and lemonade on the counter. Naturally, I went for the sweet tea. Very refreshing. In the back of the restaurant are two buffet-style counters equipped with a server. One table is filled with meats: fried chicken, fried turkey, oxtail, meatloaf, salisbury steak, ham hocks, pork chop, fried fish, and beef ribs. To your right, the side choices: — mac & cheese — cornbread dressing — red rice — black eyed peas — collard greens — butter beans — green beans — mashed potatoes — chicken & dumplings — cracklin’ bread — corn muffin Meals are served up in a styrofoam box(even if you dine in). You choose one meat, three sides, and a bread. Fortunately, I was dining with a Savannah native who gave me the must-have recommendation: — fried chicken(breast and leg) covered with oxtail gravy — butter beans, green beans, and mac & cheese — cracklin’ bread — sweet potato pie OMG! The food!!! I’ve had a lot of fried chicken, but this was hands down the best ever! The meat was spiced, moist, and flavorful with a crispy coating and not at all greasy. All three sides completely blew me away. Who knew mac & cheese or beans could be so savory? The cracklin’ bread was so soft and the perfect corn muffin texture, and just like everything else, perfectly seasoned. Of course, the pie was amazing. My dining companion had a piece of red velvet cake for dessert. Now, this cake was bright cherry red… not maroon colored like typical red velvet cake. The color called me like the Batsignal… and it was worth it! I’ve never had a cake so luscious, soft, and velvety. If I didn’t have a 12-hour drive between us, I would have bought an entire cake to take home! Most of our meal was eaten in silence, aside from frequent«Mmmmm!’ sounds. Neighborhood Soulfood is groanin’ good. Price per person: $ 10.00
