This is, without a doubt, the most authentic Mexican north of the border we’ve had. Large servings at excellent prices!(2 lunches, 2 sodas and 3 pieces of bakery=$ 20!)

There are a lot of tasty and authentic ethnic food options in Savannah, until I walked into the Panaderia La Canasta, I had not found any authentic Mexican food. The moment I walked in the door I knew this restaurant was the one I had been looking for. Parties were seated at three tables and the only language being spoken was Spanish. The waitress didn’t speak English, so she had to go in the kitchen to get someone who did. When the food came out I wasn’t disappointed. This is the only restaurant in Savannah that I have been able to find authentic carne asada. It wasn’t exactly like the carne asada I am accustomed to eating in San Diego, but still excellent. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Savannah, this is the place!

Best tacos and torta in Savannah. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly the owner and the staff are very helpful in guiding one through the menu.

This is by far the only real Mexican place in Savannah I found my new favorite place. I have not had food like this since I left Mexico 7 years ago. Yes, I am a gringo that lived all over Mexico. Everything was made to order and I could not stop eating I tried every item they had on the board. The menu is small so they can keep the food fresh. I will be back for sure. Don’t miss this place very nice people.

Muy sabrosa! What a little gem! This Mexican bakery and cantina is the real deal. I love their cupcakes because I don’t like frosting just the cake. I ordered a taco and it wasn’t like a Taco Bell taco, cilantro beef, onions and beets:)! They served it with some kind of devil hot sauce that set me free! Whew! Damn hot! But very very good! Love the décor too!

This place is Savannah’s best and only place for authentic mexican food. its not the typical dime a dozen mexican restaurant. the pork is great and the staff is always pleasant.

Although this place does not have much curb appeal nor does it offer an elevated dining experience that you’ll find at a high end restaurant, I find the food to be some of my favorite tasting mexican food in Savannah. I had a lot of trouble finding a place that served mexican food the way I know it supposed to taste out after moving to Savannah from Los Angeles. This place definitely hits the right tones of fresh authentic mexican food at very reasonable prices and best of all, you can grab some pan dulce for the home on the way out.

This is one of my favorite places. all their food is wonderfully authentic, not the greasy stuff you see in most places. Great baked goods, great tacos, great fried whole fish, amazing soups. the only reason for only four stars is that they changed the recipe for their tamales. they are not as good as they used to be. I buy them by the dozen to keep in the freezer for a quick microwave dinner or lunch. But the last batch, they didn’t have much filling. I’ll give them another go, after i talk with the owner. but don’t miss out on all the other goodies.

I discovered this place while driving to work. I’m always on the look out for good authentic eats. This place caught my eye because it not only said«Panaderia»(bakery in Spanish), but also Taqueria. Since moving away from Texas years ago, I’m always in search of REAL Mexican food — not Tex-Mex or jazzed up tacos(which is fine sometimes), but the real deal. This place has got it. It had quite an array of Mexican baked goods, but what I was interested in was their tacos. I ordered some to go(which were very reasonably priced), and they were really tasty! They had the right amount of flavor and spice. I could have used a side of salsa, but I think all I had to do was ask. These are simple tacos — meat, onions, cilantro, a little bit of cheese, and a lime wedge to give it a hint of acid. Perfection. And the tortillas… My goodness those tortillas were delicious — maybe the best I’ve ever had! And I have had a lot of different tortillas. I feel like a little Mexican grandma probably made them. And who I suspect to be the owner was a super nice guy and told me that their menu rotates, and sometimes they’ll have other authentic dishes like menudo and tamales every once in a while. And I loved that they had paletas, Mexican popsicles that come in funky flavors that you can’t get anywhere else, like tamarind, rice, or one of my favorites, mango with chile. Yum! So, I definitely recommend this little hole in the wall that serves real and delicious Mexican food at great prices.
