I had to find a hair salon that would give me exactly what I wanted. I showed Danielle a picture of what I wanted and she totally transformed my hair! Love my new haircut! I’ll definitely be back! Thanks Danielle! :D

This was my first visit to this particular salon, but not my first encounter with Danielle. Danielle has been cutting my boyfriends hair since she was at Asha Aveda Salon and because she’s one of the best, naturally, he followed her because he will not let anyone else near his hair. I knew Danielle would do an awesome job on me and I was not disappointed. My first impression with the salon itself was great! I love that they send you reminder texts about your appointment, alleviating any misunderstanding about appt times. I have no idea what the negative reviews are about regarding the front desk staff, but they were amazing, friendly, very professional and accommodating. There were two ladies working the front desk and between them, they offered to take coats and offered beverages. My shampoo tech Jill rocked! I frequent blow-​dry bars and on occasion, I come across someone that is intimidated by my hair… it’s the same damn hair people, just on different skin tones! I told Jill that I wanted hot water and she honored that and continuously asked me if it was too hot and if I was ok; what a sweetie. Also, I loved that she got in there and massaged my scalp… she wasn’t scared! She was so good, I damn near fell asleep! Danielle gave me an awesome blow out followed by beach waves and I was on my way after only 1hour and 20 minutes! Bomb!
Great service, great atmosphere, good energy and THANK YOU a million times over for the kids rule! If I wanted to be surrounded by screaming kids, I would go to the damn mall!

YURI «UT» did a great job with my cut !! She is really good with bangs. Some of the other stylists seemed to have happy customers as well. Nice mini head massage while they wash your hair. Great overall experience.
Tip: Don’t go without cash ! Only cash tips.

I was looking for a place to get my haircut as I just moved from the city. I decided to try Danielle and she was amazing! She listened to what I wanted and delivered! Thanks Danielle!

Danielle did an awesome job on my bi-​racial hair. My boyfriend loved that the hair was tamed yet full of soft curls! Very happy with the service and the shampoo girl was amazing!!!

To be honest I never thought of myself as someone who would write such a review… I am not the kind of person out to hurt any business but circumstances as they turned out they earned this one … DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON… If you actually want it to actually be about you and the money you spend … They are the most OVER RATED SALON they DO NOT DESERVE the credit they have received … The colorists are very good they are the only reason I will give this salon any type of credit … And two gentlemen who work there… I think the men may have some talent but the owners were basically rude and condescending and the stylist lied to me about the thickness and quality not only of the hair extensions but the service as well … I took a chance on with their salon on her word and how it’s provided… But when your specific request is that you want thick hair extensions and your hair extensions end up being thinner than your own hair and shed insanely look cheap and two of the extensions have already fallen out in only a few weeks and the cut I can’t even style… After what I spent on their word which really should be we think we are so great and yet we have forgotten we are only as good as our own word … The stylist was also condescending telling me in a conversation how I need to handle my personal affairs when her opinion was not asked for it was just me trying to have an honest conversation and I ended up feeling lousy when I left … I thought I was paying for it to be a positive experience for me … The owners think way too highly of their own selves and the talent services and products they provide before I left I wasn’t even told what would happen to the rest of the extensions I paid for I honestly think they will use them on another client … I wouldn’t honestly put it past them because the only thing that salon focuses on is their own revenue and their receptionists don’t even know how to actually book an extension appointment even though isn’t that what they are there for and were hired to do? No their job is too go on when you call after receiving such a low grade product and service worth for them close to $ 1500 that they simply are just so busy … N when the stylist was put on the phone and I tried I mean I tried to be nice about it her own ego and lack of actual class was crystal clear she said and I quote …“yeah.” Like how dare I even say one word about her work … The only thing she knows anything about and basically is all she focuses on is her own hair and knows nothing about any of the actual products except what she uses for her hair which of course didn’t look at all like what mine did … Hers look great … Like I said … It’s only and all about them and what you will do for them not the other way around … I was brought up to stand behind the work you provide to anyone … I am having my extensions replaced in less than one month since getting them because it simply looks too bad for the money I paid … I will take the hit but all that will come out of this situation that will be positive is that I stop someone from going to this salon there are plenty of really excellent ones whose word will be worth listening too … Please save yourself from a situation like mine … HIP SALON is so not worth the hype …

I go to Debra, the owner and I have to honestly say she is the BEST hairdresser I’ve ever been to. She spends time with you, gives you a full consultation before hand, the haircut is perfect… I went 2 times now and I will never ever go anyplace else. Everyday, I get compliments on my hair… it’s absolutely perfect… I love that they use bumble and bumble … I can’t be happier. She cuts hair so good that as its growing out it still looks amazing! I love HIP salon and Debra … my heart is forever happy …

This is obviously not a place where a man wants to go.. Hair cuts start at 35 and up.. Just doing the math with a tip you are talking 40+ per hour… And that’s if your hair cut takes an hour. That equates to about $ 80 k per year. … wow.. Where’s my flow-​bee. Lol. … And that’s all I got.. I’m out

Julia does an amazing job with my high lights! If you are looking for consistency and quality work, ask for her! My hair never feels damaged and the outcome is always how I expect it to be. My mom and I have been going to her for a few years now.
Also, ask for Jamie as your assistant. He gives the best hair washes & scalp massages!

THE best experience I have ever had at a salon. And I’ve been around the block! I had the pleasure of getting my curly hair cut by Esteban de la Torre. Omg. Best. Haircut. Ever. My hair has never looked this good. And Esteban was an absolute joy. I left feeling pampered and beautiful. This is my first Unilocal review, but I know when searching for a new stylist, word of mouth is so important. Do not hesitate. Go see Esteban. You will enjoy his company, and love the magic he works on your hair. Guaranteed.

I came to HIP for a cut and color service. I really wanted something different and i read on their website that they were able to do «Ombré» hair color which is what I really wanted. So super excited I went in and was seen quickly too. I was introduced to Whitney and I immediately showed her pictures of exactly what I wanted done, which was the Ombré color style on my medium hair length. I was then introduced to Ryan who would cut and style my hair. Very nice people but I think that some more training about hairstyles and color needs to be done. Whitney highlighted my hair all over the back and some on the side of my hair to «frame» my face. Ryan’s hair cut was really just a trim, we had talked about layers and a side bang. That was not done. I left the salon super unhappy. I looked up their site at home that night and discovered that they offer up to two weeks to come back into the salon if the customer is not happy, to be able to fix the issue and make the customer happy free of charge. I came in the very next day at 9am and came back at 11am to see Whitney since she was busy at 9am… I explained why is was dissatisfied and she said she understood what i meant and that she felt Ombré color was not right for my hair length, which she could’ve told me before doing it to my hair! She said she could fix it by adding some more highlights to the bottom of my hair and that we would take it from there. She did the lights and «blow dried» my hair. I was still disappointed since i had highlights instead of what I showed her i wanted. And guess what?! She charged me! An extra $ 35 on top of the $ 150 i had already spent. What kind of service is this?! DEFINITELY not going there ever again and i will not recommend to anyone.

I love everything about HIP! The salon is very clean with a modern/​trendy atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly. I absolutely love my stylist, Jon! He does great work and will not let you leave his chair until your hair is perfect! He is a lot of fun and I recommend him to everyone. As for price– I believe it is reasonable especially since you get washed, cut and blow dry/​style for $ 45. The products, Bumble and Bumble are great as well, I use them at home. Unless I move out of state I don’t see myself going anywhere else :)

Reasonably priced salon, great stylist, great atmosphere. I see Jon for my hair cuts. The salon is hidden back in a strip mall and can be easy to miss from the road.

Wow! What a great place! Moved here from Cleveland and actually was driving back there to get my hair done. Not anymore!!! From the shampoo to the cut and color absolutely amazing. Jessie is an amazing colorist and Esteban gave me the best cut of my life! Skylar’s shampooing was lovely! Definitely can’t wait for my next visit! Just awesome!

My hair was a complete disaster. It was an ugly shade of blonde… too light for my skin tone… my hair looked thin and damaged. I had an appointment with Tyler and he fixed the color! He created a pretty ombré blond to help me regrow my hair and keep them healthy. He is great!
This salon is amazing! Now my mom and my best friend go there too!

I had a hair appointment for a men’s haircut on a Friday night with John. He was awesome! I asked for the pompadour and he was able to do what i wanted and even through in some simple suggestions that made all the difference. $ 45 gets you a nice trim#cut and shampoo and they style it too. Highly reccommend John for mens hair cuts! Great experience all around.

I love Jennifer. She is a miracle worker. This review may be biased because I have Jennifer has been my stylist since she was at Heidi’s in Woodfield Mall. However, most of the stylists and colorists have been there since HIP has opened, and that says a lot for a place. There seems to be very little turnover. The only new employees I see are the receptionists and assistants. The other reviewers are correct about the receptionists. It’s really hit or miss. They are all very nice but not always the most professional. But I don’t believe that they are offensive enough to affect the rating of HIP’s quality of work for hair coloring and styling.
Back to Jennifer. I love her as a stylist because she just knows how to cut hair well. I now live in Lincoln Park so it is very inconvenient for me to go out to Schaumburg to see her, but I do because she is just that good. I have tried a few places in the city that others have recommended, but no one makes my look the way Jennifer does. She listens and will do what you ask, but will be honest with her opinions. I get compliments on my hair all the time!
When I get my color done, I see Jessie. She is very patient and thorough. I am very picky with my hair color. I prefer a dark brown with a reddish violet tone that she gets right every time. Once in awhile when I want to mix it up, she always takes her time to make sure she understands exactly what I want. If you get color done, you will have to dry your own hair. That is one thing that I wish was different at HIP. I know many salons have self-​service blow dry stations for color services, but I would rather have a professional dry my hair. Of course, I try to schedule my color before a cut, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way.
This salon uses Bumble and Bumble, Oribe, and Kerastase products. They are priced like any other high-​end salon. There are colorists and stylists. They are separate services provided by different people. If you don’t like this, then you shouldn’t come here. I prefer this because I think everyone has different skills. But I am the type who goes to a tailor not at the dry cleaners. Everyone is very nice. They offer you a beverage while you wait and there are plenty of magazines to read. It’s not the fanciest place, but there is a reason they are always fully booked!
