awful. Go to stuyvesant plaza location if you need EMS. The staff here in mostly awful! The manager is obese, with an awful disposition. Normally I wouldn’t be so personal, but at an active lifestyle establishment, I expect people who live the lifestyle… and don’t smell like cigarettes.
I have spent many hundreds of dollars at EMS, and am glad for most of my experiences at the chain, but this locaton needs a change.
Otherwise, there is Tough Traveler on State which MAKES top qualiity packs… and a canoe/​kayak place on central in colonie. Go anywhere but EMS in Nisky.
I fee awful about this… but I give pretty fair reviews.

The main reason to shop at EMS is the knowledge of the staff. They know their outdoor sports, particularly their climbing gear, and the higher-​end stuff here is supported by their expertise. I am one to believe you shouldn’t try to go bargain-​end on gear that may save your life (not to say you can’t get a good deal, of course) and going to a retail location and inspecting the goods has a great deal to say for it.
I’m a big fan of EMS as a concept, and the main reason this location gets only three stars is because it’s small, and therefore there’s less stock and fewer bargain specials than at other EMS stores or the few indy camping /​outdoor stores. But I would recommend stopping in and checking it out for any hiking, camping, or climbing gear, particularly all-​weather or three-​seasons stuff, before you buy that low-​end item from the discount store.
