Mr Wasabi

This sushi restaurant did not deliver. We just moved to the area and we’ve tried sushi in Albany which was awesome. Now we live one mile away from Mr. Wasabi and really did want to love this place but unfortunately we didn’t and we will probably need to drive a lot further to get the sushi quality and quantity we desire. Fillers and lack of fish upset us. For $ 15 rolls you expect to see a little more than rice, extra rice and thin pieces of fish. Union St roll disappointed and apparently was liked by many Unilocalers that’s why I tried it, very upsetting. On fire roll ($ 13) a lot better just by comparing the two, lobster tempura yeah they won’t give you lobster 3 – 4 rolls from the entire thing was straight avocado and rice and that extra rice I mentioned, the two rolls with the lobster literally had a sliver and a huge piece of tempura to fill it with, in extremely disappointed, the only thing that seemed of quality was my husbands 7 piece sushi combo with the salad, even that coming in at $ 17 is way too high, I’m not even a sushi snob but the quality DOES NOT justify the price. I am not going to try this place and probably tell our other friends to get their sushi fixes in the Capitol region near downtown, spending over $ 50 later and we didn’t even feel like we had e decent meal, you can do better Mr. Wasabi your ambience is beautiful and service was mediocre, it was not even a busy night… The search continues for better priced meals

Amazing service, great food, excellent surroundings and not a bad price. Love this place and will be returning soon.

Visited last night around 9:15 pm after my Brother’s Graduation. When we were seated the waitress approached us and mumbled something really fast. After asking her 3x what she said she then just walked away. We were puzzled. She then came back within 2 mins and asked again very fast and muffled sonething. My brother figured out she said «drink order». We gave her our drink order & then she asked if we were ready to order. There were 6 of us so after only being there for 5 mins we did need a little time to look over the menu. So she left & then returned with our drinks. She stood at the end of the table and began having us pass our own drinks around to the correct person. Anyways, long story short… she delivered our food the same way… at the end of the table. Ridiculous. Our lobster was overcooked, and no utensils were given, besides chop sticks. I had to leave our seating area and ask for silverware. Our meals were cool, not hot at all. We just ate it anyways. The front door displays their hours, so on Friday nights they are open until 11:30pm. So at exactly 10:08pm I found it strange the waitress put our bill on the table, where some of us were still eating, and told us they were closing and we had to pay. We found it extremely rude! My mother looked then up online from her phone and apparently they close at 10:30pm on Friday’s. Either way it wasn’t 10:30, we are paying customers, and it’s poor customer service to rush people out of a business. My father was then looking over the bill she dropped off and within 2 mins she approached us again to say they were closing. I looked at my phone to check the time and it was 10:19 pm. I was really shocked at her rude behavior. Not only was she rude, but she also charged extra things on our bill that were included in our meals. Like rice. Rice comes with the Hibachi Combinations. But she charged us. Strange. At this point we’re feeling rushed and uncomfortable so my Father handed her the bill enclosed in one of those black binders and snatched it from him with his thumb caught inside it. We were really shocked and then exited the restaurant. I will never return, nor will my family. This place is rude, pushy, greedy, not friendly, and mean!!! No thank you!

Great food and affordable. The service is very good too. I like their Tuna Sushi Rolls with Edame. Also try the fried Ice-​Cream.

This place is consistently good. Definitely high quality sushi and a nice menu. My only complaint is the price– it’s as expensive as in the city, but the service is significantly slower.

we have been here twice in the last 3 weeks. service is excellent. i enjoy the hibachi selections and the rest of the family loves the sushi.

I’ve been eating here for years. Not only do I live full time in San Francisco (where ALL the sushi rocks) but I actually look forward to this sushi when I come home. The pink panther roll is my number one go to, I always share with my sister who gets the dancing lobster roll. They are ALWAYS bomb. Not only that but one time they actually gave my family a Christmas present for our frequent dining. Wrapped and everything. I can’t say enough good things about this establishment.
I have also waitressed for 8 years. I dined there today and although it used to be just efficient service, our waiter actually said «please let me know if you need anything else», gave us fresh plates after our salads, and let me know that the warm sake takes just a minute longer than other drinks. These might seem like obvious, minute things but as a waitress, I know that this is one and a million. Basically, that’s everything I look for in a place and I KNOW good service, so thank you.

Sushi is not well rounded… The flavored are sort of glommed… The rolls are huge, but not balanced. I think this place is fallen victim to «trying to please American» style sushi. Better to be found, but mr wasabi is good in a pinch. Overpriced by 30%

Great Atmosphere. Love when I can see the kitchen where my food is being prepared. Have only experienced take out so not sure of service staff for dine in. Filet Mignon Hibachi Dinner ($ 23) is Awesome. The Fried Rice is great too. Every time I’ve been here I’ve never had to wait more than a few mins and dining room has never been overwhelmed.

Great neighborhood restaurant on Upper Union Street Schenectady close to Niskayuna line. Excellent rolls, sushi & sashimi. Try the Union St roll with lobster tempura. Better Thai then some Thai restaurants in the area. Best Miso soup. Not a bar-​not a nightclub. Owner Jackie concentrates on food with top sushi chefs. Service can be iffy. Packed with Union College students on weekends. Good place for families and dates.

I must start by saying that I have never eaten here. I have had free delivery.
I have been very happy with every order. Quick and delicious. I have had a few rolls, mainly cooked ones with shrimp. I have also ordered hibachi dishes– steak, shrimp, chicken. The sauces that come are exactly what you expect if you were to dine in at a sushi /​hibachi place. The veggies are fresh the steak was tender and had the slight taste that you look for when you eat hibachi. I am not a frequent diner, but have ordered about five times in the past 2 years and have never been disappointed. for our last delivery my 11 year old daughter and I split the sushi and hibachi for dinner and had enough for dinner for one more evening, including the sauces.

Ok. So I mostly give positive reviews and only really give a negative review if the place was exceptionally bad. I have eaten here about a dozen times, gotten sick from it twice, and felt jipped by there delivery service every time I’ve ordered out. I just paid $ 40 for two soups and two sushi rolls. The soups were good. The sushi rolls were not so good. 11 pieces of sushi for approx. $ 25. Rip off. It wasn’t that great and the quality sucked. I do not mind paying good money for good food, but this place is ridiculous. This was the last time I eat here. I have given it so many chances because I wanted it to be good, but I was disappointed every time. GO TO MARI’S!!!

Ahhhhh, Mr. Wasabi. A jewel of Union Street.
Let me preface this by saying I do not eat meat or fish, so this review will deal strictly with Vegetarian Rolls.
I’ve had it eat-​in and take out. Pick up and delivery. In every way, it is delicious.
Eat-​in the décor is beautiful, the service is fast and efficient, and the food itself is always fresh and well made.
Delivery is fast and easy. They’ve never had a problem finding my house (most people do) and the food always comes tasting just as fresh and warm as it does when eating in.

I was told it could take 45 – 60 minutes for delivery and I found that acceptable as it’s Saturday night, but they showed up at my door in a little less than 30 minutes! The rolls were delicious and I will definitely be ordering again in the future!

Angry Dragon roll was great! Super fresh fish but Once again another sushi place with no belly tuna!!!
Small place but makes for super fast service!

i have been here a few times, on dates or just rolling solo. I believe they switched owners a year ago maybe? but the place was remodeled a bit. The portions are OK for the price but not to expensive. I have gotten to know the cook there and come to find out that we’re like born and raised around same area (overseas). Which is awesome, but other then that there are some waitress that hover over you which makes it a bit uncomfortable.

I spent 2 years living in upstate NY and haven’t found any decent sushi places except for Mr. Wasabi. The rolls are a little smaller for the price than I’m used to in big cities but I was pleasantly surprised. The servers were always pleasant and the rolls were pretty good. Ended up coming here atleast 5x while living here to get my sushi fix.
3 stars but bumped to 3.5 because I wasn’t able to find another sushi place in the area that is good.

I really love this place. It’s my favorite in the area.
The first time I went to this place, Jacky (the head chef) came to greet me. After that, every single time I visit, he came to say hello and always told me what’s fresh and what’s special today. I love how they can make food out of the menu and the food is AMAZING! Every time I go they would give some sample dishes just to try.
The staff are also very friendly. I sometimes even go just by myself for a treat on Saturday afternoon. Definitely a solid 5 star.
