The food is fresh and carefully prepared, I just have yet to be blown away by the way anything tastes on the menu after 3 visits during breakfast service. If you’re looking for a local place to get a breakfast sandwich, it’s definitely better than some of the alternatives, just not innovative enough to grab my attention and keep me wanting to come back.(The reason for three visits is that my husband likes their coffee much more than I do).

We were heading towards a national chain franchisee for breakfast when we unanimously agreed to try something different. Pleasantly surprised at the higher quality of the food that was served at this café. The menu may be limited for some but the staff ensured that our dietary constraints were met. We left fully satisfied for the long drive back home.

Five stars for the staff and physical restaurant. Two stars(generously) for the food. I had the Greek Salad. It was mostly large chunks of bitter, knife-cut iceberg lettuce; which when served/plated, were roughly golf ball sized. Four olives, a couple slices of tomato, and a few tablespoons of Feta cheese. The vinaigrette was fit for an Italian salad; nowhere near Greek flavor or spices. Customers had to serve themselves to get plastic forks and knives from a dispenser on the wall. Not impressed. Again, the staff was awesome! The restaurant was clean. My food was bitter, thin and not worth the money. Three stars at best.

This is a nice sandwich shop in the Forum complex. The employees are friendly and the food is good, with a lot of different things to choose from(maybe too many). It has a feel somewhere between a mom-and-pop place and a chain store, and there is a decent amount of seating.

This is a nice alternative to the other well known sandwich shop at the Forum. It is quieter, smaller, but a little off the beaten path. It’s behind the area where the Kohls is located. It does look a little chain-store like but it has a reasonable selection of really good sandwiches and panninis, the sandwiches are as good to me as the other place. I love P__a Bread, but sometimes the crowded vibe about that place makes me choose this little place as a quieter alternative.

Everything about this Café seemed just. ok. It has a very chain-y feel to it, the menu, the design, the seating, the atmosphere, the food… all has a corporate-stamped vibe. While the menu items sound like fantastic deli fare, I didn’t find anything about the actual food to be better than a standard cafeteria café. The broccoli cheese soup tasted canned, the rueben was ok, crazy salty, but assembled sloppily(huge heap of meat on one side, nothing but kraut on the other) my cookie was the best part and even that seemed kind of blah. The guy at the counter was friendly enough but had a really hard time with my simple order. I dunno, nothing bad, but nothing to write home about, for sure.

If you are tired of eating the same old thing, than you must try Hearthstone BakeryCafe. The Hot-Pressed Paninis are beyond delicious along with a Cranberry Balsamic Salad. You can also order a half sandwich, half salad or half soup. Either way you won’t be disappointed.

Pretty decent little place! The food looks amazing, and the iced coffee is really good as well! Loved my iced coffee. Regular brew that my mom prefers was good as well, actually above average. They have large scones, cookies, and flakey pastries, but at 3:00pm they didn’t look exceptionally fresh. This is not a chic little coffee shop like the trendy ones you’ll find in the Pearl, but it does have good coffee. It’s probably a nicer lunch place than coffee date location, however if you need a cuppa something strong this is a good spot to pick it up!

Second time I have been to this location. I have had both breakfast and lunch and been very satisfied with the quality of the meal and service. I had a different guest with me who gave them 4 stars also.

Love the food and service here. Only complaint is the wifi never works. Not ideal work lunch location.

We really love the café. On our way from Riverwalk to San Marcos we stopped here for breakfast. We ordered Breakfast Croissants and just love them. We tried tomato basil soup too and it is delicious. Just loved it and glad we found the café.

Sad that I’ve only just discovered this place! The Tony Montino is amazing! I have a thing for cuban sandwiches, a seriously serious thing. One of the most simple sammies to make yet everyone seems to put their own twist on it and fucks it all to hell. NOTTHISPLACE! The bread was crisp yet soft, yes the meats were deli but so what they were delicious! It was perfectly arranged with pickles, mustard and held together with some swiss. I asked for the cilantro mayo on the side because I’m not a mayo girl, dipped my sammie in it and was pleasantly surprised, it’s bright and crisp from the lime with a hint of summer love from the cilantro. I did try the broccoli soup, it was okay at most. Thick, bland and it contained little broccoli. So little in fact if it wasn’t for a the greenish tint to the soup, I would of thought they forgot it. Still though, loved this place! The service was very friendly and quick :)

Delicious meals and good great prices! They just added a military discount, which is awesome! Had the soup and salad combo and it was great. Tortilla chicken soup and Greek salad, small portions, perfect size and delicious. Love the yogurt parfait as well. Definitely recommend!

I don’t live anywhere close to here, but every time I’m on this side of town, I HAVE to stop. I have never had a better broccoli and cheese soup and the Lotta Muffaleta is delicious! This is a very laid back place, pretty quiet too. There’s wifi and a lot of outlets so it’s not unusual to see people studying here too.

Went here for the first time today. Got the turkey artichoke ½ sandwich and tomato basil. Mom got the Bella, portabella and chicken tortilla soup. Sandwiches were delicious and fresh. You can see the chef back there making everything on the spot. The bread is crispy on the outside yet warm and soft. My turkey was deli sliced but still enjoyable. The chicken tortilla soup was a tad on the salty side, but overall the food was great and I’m pleasantly full. I like the additional cucumber slices available for your water. Cute thought. Next time gotta save room for the dessert. Looks soooooo deelish!

I am someone who love ketchup with my eggs, so imagine my surprise when I could not get the red-colored sauce or even salsa for my egg, bacon and bagel sandwich. When I asked nicely to get the condiment, the staff sneered at me and they said it was corporate policy not to allow the use of ketchup. My alternative was red hot sauces. I have a client who likes this place, so I will stock up on the little ketchup packets for those rare visits at this restaurant.

As far as best sandwich joint in the Greater Universal City area, Hearthstone easily is in the running. From their delicious tortilla soup with respectable portions, to their Pani Cristo & Turbacca paninis, everything here is good! Even their breakfast sandwiches are very good. It says something about your establishment when even your sweet tea is memorable(for all the right reasons). I’ve had the brownies, cookies and crème brûlée here as well for dessert. The cookies and crème brûlée were solid choices but I didn’t really care for the brownie I had. It had an odd after taste in my opinion but that may just be a personal observation/preference vs. anything they did wrong. If you’re near the forum, stop in for a quick bite and you’ll be glad you did not only for the great food, but also for the consistently excellent service.
