Mattenga’s is my favorite place for pizza in Texas and one of my favorite restaurants in general. I have eaten in about 10 times in the last year and I order delivery from here almost every week. Every employee I have interacted with has been extremely courteous, I have never waited more than 50 minutes for delivery(even on Super Bowl Sunday), and everything I have tried from the menu has been delicious. If it’s your first time I would highly recommend the lunch buffet-they have several pizzas and other items out and it’s all fresh.

Mattengas Pizzeria 4.5÷5 Please avoid the traffic on 3009(June 6, 2016) during the day due to the sidewalk work. It’s horrendous. With that said and on my once a week dining out outing, and waiting 5 years, today was that day to try Mattengas Pizzeria. Keep this in mind: even though I’m Italian, I really don’t like pizza that much, and I am going to be very conservative in giving anyone five stars for any kind of restaurant, but this place is a solid four and a half stars out of five. Things I liked: Excellent thin crust pizza dough with good yeast. Love the chicken alfredo. Meatballs were very tasty as well as the bell peppers and carrots sauté Toppings on the pizza were very good with an ample amount of tasty cheese and vegetables. That tomato Pizza was tasty, but it can make the crust soggy because of the water in the tomato. You can get a free zeppole which is fried dough by checking in or texting. I didn’t like this dessert it was dry and hard. But they use the same bread balls on the buffet as sort of a cheesy bread balls. Those were delicious. That’s all I can say great thin crust pizza, friendly staff, Texas beer, and a pretty decent Buffet with a few options. Since I’m not a big pizza eater I will definitely be back for this Buffet many times, and I might try a draft beer next :).

Recently moving to the area, we were on the hunt for a local pizza establishment. Staff was very friendly and food was delicious. As a 1st time visitor, we were offered a free order of the doughnuts! And we found out they offer delivery! So happy to have found our Friday night pizza place!

Hello my name is Jesse and I am a transplant from Miami Florida to Cibolo Texas. I grew up with lots of Italians from New York and Chicago so I’m confident in my taste when it comes to great Pizza and let me tell you this place reminds me of home! The extra cheese Pizza is definitely good! That being said, for the 2nd time, I have been completely ignored at the bar and to-go area. The staff seems nice they just lack basic customer service skills. I watched multiple staff walk by me all busy working or seeming to do so. The issue is no one wanted to ask how I was doing or if I needed help. We also had mistakes made with my orders the last 2 times we ordered over the phone. The last time they forgot our Wings and I had to drive back to the restaurant to pick them up. I manage a retail store and can tell you that it seems like the staff is lacking a manager. Who is in charge of this place? The last time I was here it was the same thing, the staff seems too young not to have supervision. After all that venting, I would still get Pizza from this place, just to-go or delivery. It’s a shame because I like there selection of beers. Oh well I guess. Hopefully things will get better there.

This could easily be a 5 star rating, but there are some problems that need to be addressed. This is probably the best pizza I have had. The ingredients were definitely fresh and quality, which resulted in a magnificent pizza. The garden salads were a meal in and of themselves and didn’t skimp on the veggies, and the bread sticks were amazing as well. If the food was so good, why only three stars? While the girl that brought the food out and attended the tables was friendly, enthusiastic, and as attentive as she could be, the customer service over all was lacking. This, I assume, is a result of increased labor costs and I expect to see more and more of it going into the future. To place your order, you stand in line as the people in front of you ask the 1 cashier about every item on the menu as they clumsily attempt to decipher a generally simple menu. This can take awhile. When you get to the register the cashier(in my case) isn’t the friendliest person, and as you place the order you have to decide then and there how much of a tip you want to leave… how can I make an honest and fair decision on that at this point, when I haven’t received any service? We also encountered a situation where the line was so long, people were backed up to our table, making it difficult to enjoy our meal. Fast forward to the seating. They have a good sized outdoor area, however inside is jammed together and the tables in the booths cannot be moved. Why is that a problem? In the case of my wife and I, there was a grossly obese woman sitting at the booth behind us, who felt obligated to sit so far from the table that we couldn’t get by or move the chair out, and we couldn’t pick another table because they were all taken. I am very tall and my wife is very pregnant. This fat ass didn’t care, so being able to slide the table back a bit would have been helpful prevented me from having to confront her and her husband about manners. So to bottom line this, great food, at least one very friendly member of the service team, horrible ordering and seating arrangements(inside). If it wasn’t for those, this would be a five star establishment.

Pizza is good, certainly better than any chain and rather give to local business first and foremost. Ingredients are fresh, perfect balance of toppings and crust is decent. The salads are over-priced, too small and my antipasto salad was not as advertised. Was looking forward to a nice salad but was very disappointed. No cherry tomatoes, no artichokes, no roasted peppers, no ham, no provolone. Suggestion to the owners, publish what type of sauce your pizzas come prepared. I ordered a veggie and expected red sauce yet was no sauce. After looking at the other pizzas, you cannot tell how they are prepared in regard to sauces. Delivery was fast, however pizza was lukewarm so not sure what happened there. Be careful if you order online and include tip, There is already a hefty $ 3.00 delivery charge, plus option to tip on the full amount which is wrong as well. Read your receipt carefully because there is a line to add additional tip and can be misleading. If you are contemplating, definitely worth a shot and form your own opinion.

Horrible experience! A simple order of pizza rolls that turned out to be nothing but breadsticks. After we complained to our waitress and showed her she stated she’d let«them know» which led to 2 more teen waitresses that could do nothing but giggle… manager never came out!!! I stated i was going to write a review on Unilocal and still no adult, no management, nothing to fix the problem i hope people skip this joke of a «pizzeria»!!!

It smelled amazing, so, I walked in… Sat down… And no one would wait on me. After 15 minutes, I got up and left. It was not busy in there and two very young waitresses were at the end of the bar talking the entire time I was there. I gave it two stars because it smelled good enough to get me to walk in, But the service was bad enough I left and went to the Mexican café next door.

Mattenga’s was Goomba’s when I first moved back to the area in 2014. I wasn’t impressed the first time or 2 that I had it, but it actually started getting better with the change in the name, it seemed. It’s now a pretty regular favorite around my house. The kids are big fans! Keep it up!

I called in an order for a personal pizza($ 10) and small caesar salad($ 5). The pizza was good, but nothing to write home about. I thought the salad was a bit overpriced. You can judge that for yourself. Finally, we were told that the order would take 25 mins, it was more than 40. I was not impressed. Funny thing, they texted me the next day about my experience and I let them know, but I never heard back. Edited: The owners replied and sincerely apologized for this experience, which was a nice gesture.

Went in early this afternoon with my family and everything was very good. Don’t usually give a lot of fives but today was the exception. The pizza we got was prepared exactly how we wanted it. Order came out pretty quickly and the manager regularly checked on his customers to make sure everything was OK.

I tried this place after reading Unilocal reviews. Usually Fellow Unilocalers are pretty accurate. However, this is an exception. It is a family owned business so I really want to give them a great review but I cant. What I am not reviewing is the fact that a lady who reeks of cigarettes decided to sit less than 6 inches behind me. The smokers cough is unsettling. The atmosphere is ok. The biggest draw is a nice patio with lots of seating. Inside feels cramped. The food is just ok. The pizza was greasy, the toppings were good but the crust was underwhelming. The buffet area for lunch is small. Buffet is 11am to 3pm. I came in at 11:45 and the pizza looked like it had been sitting. The small buffet area has a kids play table taking up real estate and increasing the trip hazard with other peoples kids. A dirty kids play table should not be by food and I fought the urge to push it out the door. Garlic knots– not Pizza– greasy Meatballs– ok Salad– small selection of fresh ingredients, good. Pasta salad– ok It was odd to be asked to tip and review this place upfront when you paid. I am not sure what I was tipping because the only human interaction was a five second greeting. Dont be afraid to click on the No Tip button when you pay, especially for the buffet. I have cut this review off because the smoker behind me sounds like she is about to cough up a lung on me.
