I took us out of our way trying to find a shop and happened upon this little place. AMAZING! Italian beef was fantastic. Huge portions. Great prices. Good old home town cooking. Staff was friendly and food was ready quickly. I can’t wait to return.

The best place for Italian beef. I use to be a Johnnie’s fan on North ave. I found my new place home for beefs here at Frannies. They also have a to die for meatball sandwich that knocks it out of the park. They have great fast food and friendly service it is worth the stop.

Absolutely great Italian beef! The Au jus is just right, get it double dipped and bring your own bib. Hot peppers is best on mine! There’s no comparison in the Schiller Park area. I got 3 bypasses already and don’t really give a fuck what the doctor says, I says I rather die eatin Frannies Italian beef.

We walked to this great spot and had the Italian beef Sandwhich and fries and there was nothing bad about it! The crew made a suggestion on what to put on it and we went with it. It was so tasty with great flavors and the french fries were so fresh! We are stuck in Chicago for a few days and I’m excited to try something different at Frannies!

I love Our city’s signature Italian Beefs and let me say FRANNIES is a legit Joint! Great portion! Great tender beef… awesome home made gardineira ! I gotta say Johnnies and Frannie’s are pretty close ! I’ll be making my final decision shortly on which is better ! They should have a food war contest!!!

Pretty good combo, nice and soggy. You’ll need at least three napkins. If you’re a novice, probably six. Beef was good, juice was good, and the sausage tucked in there was really good. It amounts to a pretty hefty sandwich. The giardinara was not as hot as some other places but it worked well for the sandwich. Fries came right out of the fryer so they were nice and hot and crispy. Topped it off with a chocolate shake which was nice and thick, and lasted all the way to the Wisconsin state line.

I was going to pick up some subs from Al’s deli when I came across this place that I had forgotten about long ago. They make a darn good Italian beef sandwich here and a combo too. The homemade giardiniera alone is worth stopping in for. Reminds me of Mr. Beef in the city. It’s nothing like the stuff you get in the jars at the grocery stores. They try to make the hot dogs like Gene & Jude’s with the no tomato thing but if you want a G&J dog go to G&J because Frannie’s doesn’t come close. When you go to a beef place you get a beef right? This tiny little joint with outdoor seating on their deck and plenty of parking is going on my best beef list.

Just got into town from Boston. I’ve had Italian beef in a few different places here in Chicago. Frannie’s is a local neighborhood place and their beef can definitely compete with the best. I’m not a Chicagoan but I am a professional chef and when it’s good, it’s good. Shout out to the owner, very friendly people.

This is a great lunch spot that I’ve been to dozens of times and never been disappointed. Awesome Chicago style hot dogs are always good. The steak Diane sandwich is terrific. And when they have it, their pepper and egg is the best in the universe. Nice people, great service and reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Great food I’ve been there a few times. A little pricey though. But you pay for what you get

This place crushes it. Best Beef in Chicago. I stop by every time I fly out of O’Hare. If you’re in the area Frannie’s is a must.

Ok. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the delivery that just arrived — rather smooshed, but flavor fully intact — was quite gorgeous. The lemon italian ice is pretty close to perfection, tart and smooth with a few small pieces of lemon peel stuck in there so we know they’re fulfilling their promise that it’s home made. Small but satisfying Chicago style hot dog, nestled in fries. Italian beef! generously sized. ordered little sides of giardinera and sweet peppers and stuffed these into the pile of shredded beef — mwah! so good. Finally, had initially put in a gyro order, but something was going on with their gyro machine(?), so after a phone consultation with a super friendly guy, got a polish instead, with peppers and grilled onions. spicy, juicy, even a little sweet. it is really really good — the winner of the night. If you like your fries crispy, this is not the place for you. Every single thing was incredibly delicious, and clearly made with loving hands! Perfect silver lining to my blizzard induced layover.

With such great accolades and legend this was a big letdown. I truly expected some old school banter and«beefy» personality. Went there on reputation and recommendation thinking I could take my 10 y/o daughter to a bit of a salty atmosphere so she could see some ol time personality. And don’t get me wrong, sitting with me watching a Lions game she’s heard some of the saltiest adjectives ever known to man but… going to a legendary beef stand for a dog and a wet one and my daughter having to listen to what I think was the owner, and his old friend from, in between«f» words and suck this and banged that, I gathered was from LA/California, talk about things better left said at a bar in Goodfellas… Just not worth it. We weren’t the only table with a young one(two others) at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon, listening to this spew. Loved some of the story but the only way I’d go back is if it quickly turned into a belly up that you knew better bringing your children in. HUGE disappointment! So needless to say, the beef was fatty and nasty, Au Jous way too salty and cold, fries tasted no better than turd and the root beer was flat! F — — -

I’ve only had their Pepper and Egg sandwich and holy smokes that thing was AMAZING! It was overflowing with pillowy soft eggs, spicy giardiniera, and gooey mozzarella cheese. One sandwich filled two of us to the brim. I’m docking two stars only because of the lack of consistency with the place. I called once to pick up an order of the Pepper and Egg sandwich, only to hear the person that made this particular sandwich wasn’t in – which I understand, and was fine. Two other times I got this sandwich, they didn’t taste at all like the other experiences I’ve had eating the same exact thing. Once they had used another type of giardinera, another time they had skimped on the egg – the lack of consistency has made me wary of making the trek down River Rd since there are so many other places nearby who do a better job at remaining consistent with the quality of the food they serve. If this is a sandwich Frannies serves once a week, and there is one particular person that is designated to making this sandwich, then how come there is so much inconsistency?

Skip everything else here and go straight for the Italian beef!!! This beef is only very very very slightly beaten out by the likes of Johnies on North Ave, and since Frannies is closer to where I live, it def gets the nod for me. The beef is absolutely perfect and melts in the mouth. The ordering process takes a bit more time than normal, but they must be doing something extra special back there because this is Italian beef perfection. My buddy and I did an Italian beef crawl and this was one of our three spots(Johnies and Lukes on Harlem were the others). Both of us agree that Johnies and Frannies were a near tie for first. Love it here, def one of the best needs I’ve ever had.

Are you kidding me? A whole-in-the-wall, middle of nowhere place makes juicy, tender beef sandwiches topped with sweet or spicy(not really spicy) peppers. The fries taste like real potatoes and comes out hot and fresh. Their beef sandwich combo with fries and drink is about $ 8.00 with tax. We also tried their garden hot dog. It’s topped with pickled peppers, pickles, onions, tomatoes and relish. The only bad thing is that their hot dog is pretty thin. It’s tasty but not too filling. As for their customer service, it’s awesome. The man who runs the place is über friendly and professional. Just a quaint place for quick, cheap and tasty eats.

If you’re expecting Portillo’s, best pass this one by. Stopped into Frannie’s for lunch. Nothing special. Parking lot could use some paving. Five booths seating inside, three picnic tables outside on the porch. Order and pick up at the counter. Had the combo italian beef and sausage with hot peppers on the side, an order of breaded mushrooms with ranch dip, and a regular sized root beer. Sandwich was okay, not the best I’ve ever had, but definitely not the worst. I asked for mozzarella on the sandwich, but the little bit that was added was practically baked into the bread… could barely see it, let alone taste it. Mushrooms were fairly tasty, but they only gave me 9 ½(see pic below)…and I expected a few more than that for the price. The total bill came to $ 11.78, you tell me if it looks like the portions were worth it. I could see myself giving it another try, but it’s not at the top of my ‘regulars’ list.

Pot hole on the road to a lunch spot near to work. This is not a place I will return. Hot dogs were super skinny and blah. Fries were terrible, just awful. I’ve moved on with my lunch search.
