Marie’s Lobster House

Great staff, excellent décor, great view of the bay but best of all the food is heavenly and top quality. Yes, you get more at Mike’s, but it resembles eating from a trough — which is fine if you like that kind of thing.
Everything was cooked perfectly. There were 12 of us, we all ordered something different and I had a taste from most of the dishes.
They did a great job with our wine. The service was quick. The soups were great.
What more could you want?

Tried Marie’s since we are consistently going to Mikes (and have been for years)… And the result is that we will continue to choose Mikes over Marie’s. Both outdoor seating (Marie’s does have a nicer décor). Marie’s prices are around $ 6 – 8 more per entrée for a similar dish. I ordered fried shrimp at Marie’s. You receive six shrimp, whereas at Mikes you might receive 10+ of the same size. Portions at mikes are definitely bigger, quality tastes about the same, and prices at mikes are cheaper.
Lobster dinner was tough and overcooked. Fried flounder was good (and same size portion of fish as mikes). Shrimp pasta was okay.
Overall, not a bad place. But Mikes will continue to receive my business over Marie’s.

Since Mike’s was beyond crowded we opted to give Marie’s a try. Sadly, it was a disappointment. My steamed lobster was ok but a tad over done. Husband’s fried flounder was coated in a thick tasteless breading. I think cement would have had more taste. Kids chic fingers were the best meals of the night. Even the Caesar salads that go with the meal were basically just lettuce covered in Parmesan cheese. Service was adequate, considering how busy it was and with a new waiter. Oh well. Next year we wait for Mike’s.

I am actually surprised that I will be giving this place 5 stars, but they earned it. We went, without a reservation, in peak summer and it was a great experience. We only waited about 10 minutes for a table because we went around 6pm. The ambiance is very nice, sitting outside on a covered porch. The service was very pleasant and efficient. We had the lobster with crab in a blush sauce. Delicious and light. We also had two orders of the Halibut pomodoro. That was the highlight!!! Fresh halibut with jersey tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes. We were with a four year old and they were EXTREMELY accommodating. Getting his food quickly, refilling his water without asking, and generally being very sweet. We will go back!!!

There were 14 of us, parties of 8 or more have 18% gratuity already included. It’s a BYOB but we didn’t know and so bought a $ 55.00 bottle of wine. Although we got huge portions, the food was meh at best.
Also, seating is outside. No indoor seating & if ever I have a $ 500.00 plus bill again I expect some G.D. air.

3 of us (out of our table of 8) got food poisoning from here few weeks ago. We were sick and throwing up for 3 days. Never again!!! Over priced and obviously not fresh. First experience with food poisoning, wouldn’t wish it in anyone. Stay away.

I love Maries! It just doesn’t get any better than sitting on the bay on the Jersey Shore and eating seafood.
My wife had the crabcakes, they were excellent! I had a lobster roll which was as good as anything I have had in Maine.
Kudos to the chef!

Started with the calamari: overcooked and flavorless. However, the wife’s NE clam chowder was tasty. Ordered the coconut scallops w/​raspberry dipping ‘sauce’ for the entrée: just okay, but the sauce was the worst; it reminded me of the boysenberry pancake syrup at IHOP (could not eat the sauce at all). The wife had the stuffed shrimp which would have been pretty good if they weren’t so dang salty; tons of lump crab meat, but tons of salt too… and I LOVE salt! Woulda been a good meal for $ 50 bucks, but with my daughters chicken entrée the bill was $ 112.00. Too pricey for so-​so food.

My idea of stuffed shrimp is a shrimp that is stuffed. Marie’s idea of a stuffed shrimp is a crab cake on top of an overcooked medium sized shrimp… very odd and almost humorous, if we didn’t have to pay for them. The French fries and onion rings were great. my compliments to the chef.

What a perfect dinner! Had the shades rolled up and enjoyed a great bay/​dock view. Had «surf and turf», steak and the Alaskan king crab legs and it was perfect for what I was looking for. It’s a BYOB, so if you want a beer with your crab legs you gotta bring with. They do have some wine from a specific vineyard available for purchase (it will come on a separate receipt as they are technically not allowed to serve alcohol with your food). The wine was ok, not wonderful but not bad at all. It served it’s purpose.
PS– Mike the server was a joy! I’ll be back next time I’m in Sea Isle.

Overpriced and not much bang for the buck. Everything tasted like it was prepared far in advance and could easily be heated by an inexperienced kitchen staff (college kids).
Clams casino ($‘12) had no hint of clams, peppers, bacon… just breaded mush in an
aluminum clamshell.
Broiled seafood ($ 40) was half a lobster tail (even though menu said lobster tail),
3 small scallops, 3 small shrimp, piece of fish, and an indiscernable scoop
of whatever on my plate.
Shrimp cocktail looked as though they came in a frozen bag from BJ. S, defrosted,
and then served with cocktail sauce that had a crust on it.
This place is a total embarassment… money is the bottom line.
The old sayin about the shore and dining is BS. There are many fine restaurants
at the shore now with great food and fair prices. Maries is not one of them.

Took my grand mother, wife, and kids here for dinner while at the shore.
Pros: the waitress, sweet and kind inexperienced teenager working for the summer. Nice dock view.
Cons: all waitresses are a bit inexperienced, and managers rarely help with them or check with tables. Food is overpriced (its the shore I guess) and not great quality. The shrimp cocktail my wife had some discoloration, could be natural, but we sent it back to be safe. The poor waitress was then scolded by the cook (we could see into the kitchen), he simply scraped it off and sent it back out. Ran into same issue with reservations, no reservations ahead of time but tables around the windows were reserved… huh? It was not busy when we went.
Sometimes we forget to ask ourselves: what seafood actually comes out of the Jersey shore? Not much is fresh here, mostly trucked in frozen foods… Ah, but we crave seafood at the seashore no? Won’t be coming back here.

The bf and I went for date night, originally planned on Mike’s but at 7:30 the line was out the door. So we opted for Marie’s next door.
It was the dinner rush so understandably it took a moment to get seated. Then the hostess stuck as at the table nearest to the kitchen, even though there were several tables next to the bay. Fine, we were hungry, lacking energy to fight for a better table.
Waitress comes by like 10 minutes later to take our order. My bf ordered a bottle of wine and she comes back with one chilled glass. «Oh, did you want two glasses?». Working in the same industry, I would never bring one glass with a bottle (dropped off, no opening/​tasting/​description) and then came back with my glass, which was wet and warm. Okaaay… no wine for me tonight.
Our appetizers arrived quickly. The bacon wrapped scallops were tasty but dime-​sized. Gordon Ramsay would NOT approve. Didn’t much care for the crab balls or their mayonnaise-​laden relish sauce.
For an entrée we decided to share some seafood sampler: a whole lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams, and we each got a salad plus a side. Salads came first (we could see the hostess whipping them up at her station) and they tried to bus mine after two bites. Judging by the rest of the patronage I would guess most either inhale or snort their food.
Our entrée arrived and the presentation was Instagram worthy, but as soon as we started sharing the same plate (hello, tapas?) our waitress came back to put the giant platter of seafood in front of my partner and give me the same size empty platter. To be fair, it felt like she was instructed to do so. Her service got better once the restaurant cleared up some, and she was very sweet. The seafood itself was pretty good, not great. The price was inexpensive ($ 40 plus $ 5 split-​plate charge) compared to anywhere in California.
I don’t think these people are very comfortable with gays, as we felt hidden/​rushed. But, hey, if you’re a size 22 fist-​pumping jersey girl, you’d probably love Marie’s. Lots of free bread.

Great fresh seafood. We got take out so I cannot comment on the dine in option. We had a fried clams platter and fried scallops. Both were excellent. The seafood for sale also looked very good. Bought two soups, a clam chowder and a crab soup. They will be lunch tomorrow, so I guess I will update the review then.

We went to mikes several times, it’s horrible n costly! A friend told us about Marie’s, so we decided to give it a try! It was excellent, scallops wrapped in bacon n clams casino were awesome! I had the whole lobster, sweet, yummy! My friend had blackened tuna, excellent! We will be eating at Marie’s more often!

Like others before us, we ended up at Marie’s because the line at Mike’s was ridiculous. Never one to wait in line for anything, I told the Boo to wait there while I investigated other options. I popped into Marie’s and it was crowded, but they had room for us. Score!
BYOB on the bay. I had not prepared for a Bring Your Own, but what’s this? A local winery sold bottles right in front!!! Score again!!!
The service was great. Friendly, attentive and accommodating. Now the food…
Everything we ate was fabulous. I had a rare tuna and the Boo had a ton of seafood of different kinds. We had salads, aps, and dessert. At the tail end of our meal, the very nice hostess came over to apologize that our server had to leave and she would be taking care of us. This was Labor Day weekend. As a bartender for more years than I’d like to admit, you have to be on death’s door to give up on one of the last profitable shifts of the season. She informed us that our server is pregnant, and wasn’t feeling well enough to hang out. UNDERSTOOD! I should tell you, our server was so professional, we never picked up on her being under the weather. Our service did not suffer and we sent our well wishes thru our new server.
The bill came, we had eaten our weight in goodness, had a bottle of a pretty decent grape, and it came to $ 70! WHHHAAAAA? It felt like the bill should be double. Great view, service and food. What more could you ask for in a restaurant? We never made it into Mike’s and we don’t care. Why would we wait for whatever they have in Mike’s? Maries was fantastic and I look forward to going back next year.

Usually order from Marie’s when Mike’s is busy… was pleasantly surprised when we ate there.
Went late on a week night and while Mike’s had a line Marie’s did not.
We were kinda shocked by the menu at Marie’s «dining room». Seemed to be way more fancy than the «take out» menu.
Well let me tell you the food is great.
I Had the Grilled Mahi Mahi excellent
Son had the Pork Chop w Bacon and Onion Marmalade… was mad at him for ordering pork chops at a seafood restaurant and he had the laugh when i was eating his scraps.
Everyone else at the table loved their food.
Blackened Yellow Fin Tuna
Broiled Salmon
Scampi over Spaghetti
White Clam Sauce over Linguini
Service was great too.

I guess for Sea Isle this is as good as it gets. Nice location and I like Byob. We had the cold mix seafood combo which consisted of crab, regular cocktail shrimp and some dinky hard to get meat out of grab claws for $ 35 ouch!!!

Went to Marie’s after seeing the line to get into Mike’s. Pretty happy that Mike’s was too crowded, because the food at Marie’s was delicious!
I got the broiled scallops (8, yes 8) with corn on the cob and french fries. They were some seriously amazing scallops. I want them now as a matter of fact.
My friend got the seafood platter — loved it.

I took my family to Marie’s on a Saturday night after driving around simultaneously looking for parking and a decent place to eat. We tried Mildred’s first, which was packed and had at least a 45 minute wait. Then Mike’s next door, which had a huge line that my stomach was in no mood to wait for. I left my brother and boyfriend in line to wait for a miracle at Mike’s, while I walked next door to see if we would have better luck at Marie’s. I’m not sure if I went the wrong way, but I had to walk down a long and creepy hallway to get to the hostess stand, narrowly passing by the dishwashers pushing carts with dirty, soaking wet dishes. When I was told that a table for 5 could be ready right away, I wasn’t sure if I should be excited that we would finally get to eat or nervous about the fact that it was so easy to get in there.
We were seated on their outside dock and handed some bread and olive oil. I had originally thought this place had a full bar, but it seemed the whole strip of restaurants on this street were all BYO. However, they did sell bottles of wine from a local winery for $ 19. We ordered a bottle of pinot grigio. Not my favorite. I like white wines, but prefer a dry red, so when I do go for a white, I don’t want a really sweet wine. This pinot grigio tasted more like white Zinfandel. It even had a more rosy kind of color. Not a fan. At all.
We took a look at the menu and realized that the prices were pretty steep. I figured since we were ordering seafood in a touristy beach town, though, the prices were going to be ridiculous no matter what. All the entrees came with your choice of two side and a caesar salad, so they definitely gave you a good amount of food. I ordered the broiled seafood combo ($ 40), which came with 4 scallops, 3 shrimp, a crab imperial, lobster tail and the tiniest flounder filet I have ever seen. I’m surprised I even noticed it on my plate. The combination was not very exciting and most of the fish was was pretty overcooked. Good thing they didn’t give me a big piece of flounder because it pretty dried out and bland. Crab imperial and lobster were the best out of all.
Some other meals looked promising, though, such as my boyfriend’s crab cakes ($ 36). They were huge and although I’m not a fan of fried crab cakes, the inside was no filler and was very delicious. (I’ve added a picture to show you). My brother devoured his eggplant rollatini ($ 16) so I’m assuming that was edible.
She crab soup ($ 8) was a no go according to my mom, but her shrimp cocktail was good. (God help them if they messed that one up!) My dad had the mahi mahi ($ 25), which came with a side of pineapple salsa, didn’t hear anything either way about that one.
All the sides were very good, however.
Overall, the food was meh. The prices were too high for the quality of food you received. They gave you a lot of food, but for the most part it was just subpar. Just keep in mind this is a touristy place. It’s more about the beachy feel than the meal.
