I bought a groupon for this place and honestly I did not have big expectations. I was surprised of the menu variety which offers not just fried food but other seafood options like their super yummy shrimp quesadilla. We also had the fish bites, their deep fried green beans and the chowder. everything we ordered was full of flavor and delicious! The oil used to fried the food was also very fresh. The place was clean and the service was good. I’m definitely coming back!

I am usually not a fan of coming out to Broadway since the parking is kind of scarce, but because of the many food restaurants around it makes it a good choice to come out and try something I haven’t been to before. My gf and I tried their fish and chips plus an appetizer of fried oysters. The three pieces of fish were not very big, but adequate for a meal since they give you a ton of fries to go with it. I did enjoy however the batter they used to fry the fish. It was very airy and light with a great crunch to each bite. One of the best I have ever had. The oysters were good and fresh with a different batter than the fish which was also terrific. This is more or less a fast food establishment since you pay and order at the counter, but the only difference is they bring the food out to you. The place was kept clean and they have a couple tv’s to keep you entertained. I would try this place again since they also have happy hour advertised twice a day.

I stopped by Five Fish out of impulse for a quick late afternoon snack while I was on the way to visit my friend. I’ve passed by this place so many times but never really bothered checking this place out. Well, today is the day! :) Good thing the rain was pouring so hard today that there were just 2 – 3 tables when I was there, so I got a nice, quick, quiet time to myself. I ordered just a snack size portion of cornmeal crusted fried oysters and a glass of soda at the counter. The bill came to just $ 8, really affordable! I saw that they also have happy hour(with ridiculously affordable prices of $ 3 – 4 for bite size items like burgers, fried fish as well). The cashier was nice and polite. She was really attentive and friendly to me. Even though I thought the place was more of a fast-food type, the service is higher than just your average fast-food joint. The dish and utensils, for example, are not plastic(they are actually ceremic/metal ones. The waitress brings the food that you order and utensils/napkins that you need to your table(so, no bussing the food on your own). The cashier/waitress even came over to ask me how my fried oysters were(I did! actually the fried oysters were the only reason why I stopped by this place today :)). Now that I know this place is a decent place to grab a quick, decent meal, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here again.

This place looks like a typical middling fast-food joint, so I was surprised by the friendliness of the staff and the supreme yummy-ness of the food. I got the oyster po-boy and thought it was perfectly done. The fried oysters were neither too chewy nor too greasy, the bread was fresh, and the sauce and slaw added fat and flavor to the sandwich. The atmosphere was fairly relaxed — blues music playing, enough tables that I didn’t have to wait, but enough customers that you don’t feel awkward. I really hope this place sticks around.

Found out about this place through the Sensitive in Seattle group on Meetup. Gluten Free fish and chips in Capitol Hill who knew!(They also have regular batter for those that aren’t gluten free. The fish tasted really fresh and the batter was good just a little greasy. The french fries(chips) were yummy too. They have a good happy hour with keg wine and all their beer on tap(including Mack and Jacks) at about a dollar off. You order at the counter then they bring the order out to your table. The one thing I wasn’t impressed with was the person taking our order I asked for the 2 piece fish and chips then she says 3 and I ask her what red wines she has and she doesn’t respond just puts in a white wine. So when reading back the order I caught that mistake and ended up with whatever red wine they had… gave up on her telling me what type it was. So besides the poor listening skills of the person taking the order we actually ended up with the correct food.

Pretty good fish n chips. Me and my friend got the cod and chips and she got the fried pickles. she really liked them, and we even got the happy hour pricing for them without having to ask for it as we were unaware that it was happy hour. The cod and chips were yummy, not too greasy like some other places. came with a lemon wedge and tartar sauce and ketchup. the fish was also extremely fresh. The service was also really friendly and the lady even came and«delivered» the food to the table and cleared it when we left :) we will definitely we back when we want more fish and chips :) P. S. I still like Ivars better, idk why, its just their fish xD

This place, omg, this place!!! Reason #18373629 why I want to move to Seattle, but that’s not for here. They make GLUTENFREEFISHANDCHIPS. I mean, come on! And, like with most places I have reviewed, the gluten-free version is honestly, truly, hands down better than the wheat. It was lighter, crispier and less greasy. The white fish was mouthwateringly to die for. Not a hint of silver skin and thus, not a hint of fishiness. The french fries were .ous. They were almost belgian style and oh so tasty with the perfect ratio of crispy on the outside to soft on the inside. And their salads were actually legit as hell. Generous portion, homemade dressing and they put parsley in the house which adds an unexpected and welcomed flavor. Very subtle, but nontraditional so it ends up standing out. Coleslaw was really yummy as well and didn’t overpower the fish and chips. And last but definitely not least, shout out to our server both times, Garnet. She was so nice, so friendly, so happy that walking in it was just like, «yeah we chose an awesome place to dine, this is gonna be lovely,» and it was. She also went around to all the tables half way through(even though it’s selfservice-ish where you walk up to a counter, order, take a number and sit down) and asked how everything was. «Excellent» was our answer both times. And to top it off, it’s in one of the best neighborhoods in town. I hope Five Fish sticks around for a long time to come!

We came here on an early Saturday night for dinner. It was early still, so the place wasn’t crowded at all. We ordered a salad, some clam chowders, fish and chips, shrimp and chips, and a shrimp po’ boy. Everyone liked the food that they ordered. The chowder was good, and the fish and shrimp were fried perfectly, not greasy at all. The po’ boy was good as well although I wish that it came with some french fries instead of the slaw. Overall, the value was decent for the quality of food that we got(under $ 50 for three people). I will have to come back and try the happy hour food next time.

The lady at the counter was super friendly and helpful, and she deserves a star! My boyfriend and I ordered baked Swai with green salad and spicy BBQ shrimp quesadilla. Drinking super cold water, we sat by the windows watching the world go by… Before too long, our food arrived at our table. I liked their crunchy cole slaw(I would have liked a bit more on my plate because I am a pig). The Swai was baked with lemon mustard sauce, which I thought was delicious with a nice tang from both lemon and mustard. The green salad was, although a bit overdressed to my liking, surprisingly fresh and tasty. There were 6 small triangles of BBQ shrimp quesadilla. I think my boyfriend was expecting New Orleans-stype BBQ shrimp(creole seasoning and lots of butter), so he was a bit disappointed to see shrimp coated in your good ol’ BBQ sauce. Well, it was not the best quesadilla in the whole world, but it was definitely not the worst.(Actually, it was quite tasty with some hot sauce with lime.) I think I still have to go back there for fish ‘n chips in order to give a proper review.

Got the blackened salmon cesar salad and the fried zucchini. The zucchini was underseasoned and very meh. The crispiness was gone from the zucchini, they should have fried it much faster to keep the crispness. The salad was just a standrad cesar with average to good dressing. The salmon itself was good but not great, didn’t taste super fresh. The fish was also a bit undercooked, too little to be considered seared. For the high standards of fish in seattle this place doesnt hit the mark. Perhaps the fried fish is better, but usually that just covers the quality of the fish

Cute spot! I’ve walked past far too many times without stopping in. Then one day when I was starving and walking up Broadway I thought, «I don’t want Thai, Vietnamese or crummy Mexican… Where can I go?!» Then there it was… The Five Fish Bistro Sign. I peeped the menu and was instantly sold. Fried pickles? Po Boys? YES puh-lease! The wait wasn’t long, the space was clean and cute and the service was impeccable. The server was so nice it was almost frightening. I loved her adorably bubbly attitude! I’d come back just for that level of service again. Insanely nice and super tasty.

I decided to try this place, excited at the prospect of a good fish & chips place on Broadway vs. travel ling to pike st. However I was disappointed. We ordered tempura bacon(because it sounded like a fun novelty), salmon linguine, and haddock & chips. Tempura bacon — the bacon inside the tempura was so over crispy and flavorless and the oil was still trapped inside the tempura batter so it was just biting into greasy flavorless pockets. Salmon Linguine — This was especially offensive, it was described as linguine with salmon and a lemon crème sauce in reality it was some pasta literally saturated in some sort of fatty congealed cheese sauce with bits of canned salmon sprinkled in. I literally could have picked the entire glob of pasta up with a fork. Disgusting Haddock & Chips — This was decent enough, perhaps they do good on the fish and chips but by the time we got to this we were so sick from the grease it was hard to enjoy. In addition to the sub-par food the service seemed a little slow… I might go here for fish and chips again if a late night craving struck but I would advise steering clear of anything else on the menu and going to the Pike Street Fish Fry instead if you can make the trip.

If I could give this place 3 and ½ stars I would. I went there a couple of weeks ago with a coworker. We both ordered the oysters and chips. I substituted fried green beans for my french fries at a nominal cost of .50. For both of us, the batter was very delicious and had a corn meal consistency which we loved. The first oyster was delicious. It was juicy and not overcooked. However, we both started on the rest of the oysters and a coupe of them were tiny, like the size of the end of my thumb. They had so much batter with the oyster, it looked like they were the same size as the original oyster. Wrong. They were tiny, which meant they were rubbery and overcooked. In addition to being a rip off. The green beans were really good and in a different, tempura like, batter. They came with a nice side of ranch dressing and the place did not skimp on them. The one thing that was amazing was the tempura batter and fried bacon. Yes. Fried bacon. It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, but not overdone or undercooked on the inside. With this maple bbq sauce that was super thick and yummy. I will go back just for the bacon it was so good. I really wish they could have offered us both normal sized oysters in our basket instead of the pathetic oyster offerings we received because I would be rocking this place with 4 stars for sure.

I am a Seafood-a-holic! I love salmon, their light crispy(not greasy) salmon and chips are to DIEFOR!!! It is FRESH, HANDCUT, HANDDIPPED cooked to perfection!!! I loved the garlic aoli! Counter service, cool chill spot to grab a Mannys, they’ve got an awesome HH, walls that open up to sit and people watch while chomping down on some really good seafood. Cool artwork, clean well run establishment. Other noteable items on the menu was the Salmon Pasta with a lemony cream sauce, OMG, the portions are HUGE! Prices are SO affordable, I don’t know how they do it for such freshness!!! This is FAVORITE! GO!!! GO!!! GO!!!

The happy hour menu rocks. A friend and I decided to try a little of everything and while we ended up taking a lot home, we were glad we sampled everything. The fried mushrooms were my favorite. They actually tasted like mushrooms and not just batter. Their tartar sauce is awesome too. I didn’t like the ranch and used the tartar sauce instead. The BBQ jack quesadilla was ok, but had way too much sauce in it. I ended up scrapping most of the sauce out and added the gorgonzola sauteed mushrooms to it and it was much better. This place is fried food heaven. If you are looking for healthy, keep walking, but when that little devil convinces you to go in, you won’t be sorry.

First, any place that gives me a band-aid when I step into their business establishment totally rocks in my book. It’s almost an automatic 3-stars if they are nice about it. I have only Unilocaled reviews sporadically over the years but if I had to note how many times I have walked into a place and asked them for a band-aid, my reviews would be too numerous to count since I’m so accident-prone…and there would be a lot of businesses with willy-nilly 3-star«band-aid-based» reviews from me… Anyhoos, I went with a couple of friends right before what we anticipated to be the lunch rush. Nice, clean, with cool paintings on the wall. I couldn’t even tell that they fried a majority of their food; it smelled nice and clean! Also, you order at the front counter, so don’t sit and wait for somebody to come by. The menu has great variety, the prices are on-point with what they are serving. I ordered the deep-fried pickles as an app. They were tasty, if a bit oily for my taste and what was REALLY cool is that the owner(?) was so attentive to the clientele in the dining room, I felt comfortable telling her my opinion. Aaand she was nice about it.(Not that it’s important, but she is also the one that gave me the band-aid.) Those pickles were sure tasty… I will still try them at another point. I can’t speak for my homies, but my Shrimp Po’Boy was outta this world! I loved the batter they chose for the shrimp and there were delicious condiments oozing all out of it. I love that. The next time I go, I will bring my own band-aids, I promise.

Best customer service on Broadway! I was blown away with the service I received at a fast foodish restaurant such as Five Fish Bistro. Thank you. Shrimp PoBoy was pretty good, I just don’t care for the large prawns aspect. It makes it hard to eat. Stick with the small cheap shrimp and put a bazillion of them on the sandwich. Pickle chips are tasty, and the portion size is plenty to share with a few people. Also good happy hour menu.

Huge fan of the customer service here. I can’t believe that this level of service exists on Capitol Hill. The kind lady asked if I wanted ketchup and when I got up to get it myself she told me to have a seat and she brought some for the food we ordered. She’s super kind. The music in here matches the atmosphere, upbeat and lively. Coffee and beignets are pretty good, but also kind of pricey. I’m not sure if this is typical of beignets, but if so then they’re going to be more of an occasional treat rather than a regular one. I really enjoy the batter on the chicken strips. The oysters are mmm mm good. Next time I go I’ll have to try the pasta. Do go here and enjoy some good ol’ fish fry. You’ll have a great experience.

They run takeout really well and here’s why: — I called them with my order and before we hung up, they repeated the list. — Before I left, they took out each item in the bag to let me see what was in it and as a double check to ensure that I have everything I ordered I’m a big fan of their deep fried green beans and zucchini — this is the best way to get get your daily vegetable serving in!

The tempura fried bacon with maple BBQ sauce is the ultimate comfort food! Loved it. I came here with friends last month when the place just opened. The shop was relatively empty at noon with just a few other patrons. The fish and chips were nicely battered. We got the 3-piece cod with yam fries. The yam fries were quite nice and between the two of us, we were quite satisfied with the portions and the quality. The owner was in the store with her laptop. We had very pleasant engagement. The owner overhead me asking my friend about what the decors in the shop were trying to convey(yes we are very artsy people) and had one of the servers came out to explain the concept to us. The decoration is supposed to bring to mind images of the beach, warm sand, and blue sky(as we have no true beaches in Seattle and this is a fish n chips place). The panels on the ceiling serve both as the clouds/waves/and sound barrier for the high ceiling. You can tell that the designer really paid attention to the decors to make this a comfortable environment for clients on rainy days. The service here was very warm. The only complaint that I have is that the place has free WiFi. However, the store person wasn’t sure what was the SSID or how clients can sign up to it. The person did promise to look into it and have that information the next time we visit. So I will look forward to updating this review later. Overall, a good and comfortable place for some decent fish n’ chips.
