Stunning! I am so impressed by the service and artistry of this shop. They were very approachable, they answered all my questions, and even anticipated my needs. The artist completed and shipped the items on schedule and every fixture was expertly packed James Curtis attended to my design goals while creating beautiful light fixtures which are a focal point in my home. I am so proud to display his work.

I had a pretty tough situation on my hand. I’m renting, and my landlord had these really nice glass lamps… and… well: I broke one. I did research and there was no «replacement part» available — I’d have to get something made. I was recommended to Edge of Glass by a neighbor who had a similar situation — and so I went down and met with James, the Artist in Residence. First up — if you are a fan of glass you really need to see James’ stuff. Many of his pieces change depending on how much light is going through them… so depending on whether your lamp is off or on, you really have two pieces of art in one. If you visit the shop make sure to have James show this to you with a dimmer. Additionally, many of the pieces have several layers and appear to be 3D — its hard to explain but there is real depth in there! Well… back to my story: I explained my situation(and my budget — given this is a rental replacement) to James and he patiently helped me go through his inventory to see if anything fit my old hardware. When nothing fit, he told me he could include me in his next custom run and gave me a quote that was exactly where I’d wanted to be… we shook hands. Yesterday I got an email they were ready. Today I picked up the the lamps — less than two weeks after I contacted James — and they are amazing! They are perfectly sized and show some of his amazing multi-color action(bits of purple swirled into a crème brûlée type yellow in this case). Moreover, he improved the design of the lamps I had… giving the bottom a bell-like shape so that more light shines down to the counter. He also painstakingly found the right parts to make sure that the fixture held on to the class — so that I don’t break HIS amazing art(unlike the«artist» before him — which hadn’t taking this care). He probably put as much time into this as he did blowing the glass! In the end: I’m very happy with James’ work, pricing, turntime and his great attitude through the process. I hope to commission a true centerpiece from him sometime down the road! –steve

My impression of Edge of Glass is mixed. The glass itself is beatiful but the metal structure that came with the glass that is used to attach the glass to the ceiling had rust over 40% of the surface area when I opened the bubble wrap thain which it was shipped. When you pay the amount of money charged for the lamps, rust is the last thing a customer would expect to fiind when opening the package.

This is a beautiful gallery with a changing inventory depending on the artists and what has been sold. We go every year when we visit Seattle and this year, James has offered a full day class for the two of us. James Curtis is not only an extraordinary artist, he is a poet and a lovely, gracious man who has spent much time with us showing us individual pieces and how they look with and without light. We own two of his pieces and plan to acquire more.

I really like the glass lamps they’ve shown here. Not your usual Tiffany style, which isn’t my style. Creative and colorful. Some of the sculptures seem like 3-D abstract paintings. They aren’t open on Monday or Tuesday, which I found out on a Tuesday. They also offer glassblowing classes.

Most artists are a bit inward focused, but this gallery [and it’s hours] really show that sometimes what should be extraordinary just… isn’t. This ‘glass art’ gallery is trite, uninspired, and rather plain. The glass art here doesn’t stand out or catch more than a two second glass, pass it if you’re looking for something REAL.
