Okay, let’s get a few things straight before we begin. We have been loyal customers of McCormicks and Schmicks for decades. Been to many all across the city and US. Preferred Customer card and the whole nine yards. Okay… I LIKE this restaurant. The sale made me a little nervous until I heard the Harborside was going to have the chef of Rays Boat house as their chef. Yeah! Then reality set in. We had a meal in the restaurant and I would say the meal was above average. A bit fancy-shmancy, but good. Because we have our boat moored close by, the Harborside was famous for their happy hour. People used to wait till the late happy hour stared to pile in. Getting on the sundeck on a sunny day during happy hour was like finding a parking stall in Costco. But those days are over. The happy our menu was pathetic. the flatbread was horrible. Even the wait staff acknowleded they often take it back. We were there on a Sunday afternoon for their happy hour, and there were only four other tables seated, and on of them was complaining about the food. Why don’t they listen to the customer? This place will fade away if they don’t listen to their clientele. WTF, just do what Ray’s Boathouse does, you can’t miss. Sorry for the rant. You can see from my posts I am very honest and positive and well travelled. This just needs to be said.

The restaurant went downhill after the remodel, at least during lunch. Went twice after remodel the first was served raw chicken, luckily tried it first before giving it to my 8 yrs old. The manager was really nice and made me different lunch and did not charge anything but worried for 2 days about salmonella poisoning. Yesterday went back, had cheese and ham sandwich except there was no cheese and when I told the waiter he laughed and did not offer to make it right. They need new chef and waiting staff. Becoming more critic as I watch Gordon Ramsey and restaurant impossible.

Ok — this is my 5th time trying to get to like this place again! I used to love going here and have been going here for years. I went back in for dinner again the other nite. Had Clam Chowder and the Grilled Mahi Mahi. The Chowder? The potatoes were not even cooked and very hard — way to el dente! I mean it’s chowder — Then the Mahi Mahi? Dry dry dry and no flavor at all. The bartender was like — oh yea it’s suppose to be that way? This place now is just a hotel bar. There were more people there from the hotel across the street than anything else. The meal was $ 80!!! I couldn’t even eat it. I really am so disapppointed — if you’re going to change something, and charge that much for food — make it edible! Really as someone who has spent so much money at this restaurant in the past because it’s close to home, it’s just discouraging. This is an improvement?

After reading some of the reviews on Unilocal,I was worried about Harborside. But I shouldn’t have been. The food and service were superb. I had the smoked sturgeon and it was incredible! I even asked for a menu adjustment because I didn’t want horseradish and they replaced the sauce with this amazing valencia orange vinaigrette. My only disappointment was that it is located in a hotel and it has that«hotel restaurant» feel. But we went at night and could not see the water. I imagine during the day it would be beautiful.

I haven’t been to Harborside since the renovation so since we got a gift card for Christmas from my mother-in-law, we decided to come for Valentine’s Day. I used to work very close to this place so I’ve eaten here many times in the past. I gotta say the décor is vastly improved(no more green carpet, hurray!) and the view remains awesome and I recognize some of the same staff as before so that’s all great. However, I come for the food and unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as it was before… I hate to say. I loved their«fresh sheet» that used to change daily and their crab stuffed salmon or whatever it was used to be so delicious! They have a similar dish that I tried this time — crab stuffed sole. The sole just doesn’t hold up to the crab as well but the green beans and fingerling potatoes that came with the dish were great! The fish overall was a little bland… and our risotto cakes that we got for a starter were as well. My husband said his Mahi Mahi needed salt too. It’s too bad really. I know McCormick and Schmick’s is a chain and you can find great non-chain seafood in Seattle but I was a fan. I hear the new chef here is from Ray’s Boathouse but the food at Ray’s is ten fold above what we got last night. I won’t give up on this place though, they still have a great happy hour and that patio in the summertime is going to be a great place to hang out with friends. I hope they work out the kinks with the food because they’ve got a great look going on and I don’t want them to waste it!

Went back to Harborside, I still love this place they have incredible $ 5 happy hour bites. The new looks are a great addition to the South Lake Union neighborhood. The service is very good. The food is very good. Note to owner, please don’t take out the glass wall between the stairs and the bar, people were saying you might and it would be very sad to see such money go to waste in this current economy.

I had an excellent meal at Harborside. We started things off with the Bacon crusted PFO(pan fried oysters), which were very good sized, and full of flavor. The Beef Filet and Lobster stole the show however. The lobster had a some sort of creamy horseradish mouse on it that was out of this world. My steak was cooked perfectly as well. The only thing I would change about the dish, would be to replace the bland Kale on the dish with something tastier. All in all, I will be back.
