CONFIRMEDCLOSED The person working at the Columbia City location told us yesterday that they shut down SODO on January 1, 2012. There are now only two locations.

This place is completely closed. Went there today and there are signs in the front of the restaurant saying«Now Open!» But when we looked into the windows in the front door, it was completely cleared out. There are no notes or signs on the door explaining why this is, yet the«Jones Original barbecue» sign is still up. Completely weird…

Jones Jones Jones… Let me start by saying that this location has friendly service in a funny entertaining way which is fine with me. The sides: slaw and mac salad were A-OK, nothing great, nothing bad… just your average. I like their sauce but I think I like the sauce at Hole In the Wall better… there is something missing about this sauce. Plus you can buy Jones bbq sauce anywhere now. The ribs weren’t as fall off the bones as I would have liked, still tasty and full of flavors. The hot links were probably the best. The chicken was so so, then again I haven’t had great great chicken at bbq joints. Definitely will try it again and try the sandwich as I love me some bbcue.

I had a groupon for this and had wanted to this for a while. If you like spicy BBQ this is a good place. I had a Beef brisket sandwich that was good but the sauce just took the bun apart, so a little hard to eat. The side were okay, nothing to write home about. The BBQ chicken was pretty good, very moist and spicy.

Jones is hands down the best BBQ in Seattle. My favorite item here is the brisket sandwich which comes with one side item, all of which are good. They recently added a really good mac and cheese to the side item arsenal that includes classic items like cole slaw and potato salad. Other items you have to try are their famous rib tips and the pork hot links. You can add a hot link to any sandwich for $ 1.50 making a great meal even better. For those that are not a big fan of spicy foods, you should definitely stick to the mild as even the medium has a pretty decent kick to it. The corn bread here is good but doesn’t really stand out compared to their meats and sauce. You will also find some tasty dessert items like sweet potato pie, cobblers, and cheese cakes. This location is in the SoDo area of Seattle on Lander Street which is just a few blocks south of Safeco Field. They share a small parking lot with a couple other businesses and it fills up quick during the lunch rush, but you can always find street parking within a block of the restaurant. The staff here is always very welcoming and genuinely friendly. This is a small, local business and you can really tell why they are successful with their perfect combination of delicious food and great service.

Jones BBQ is a bonafide guilty pleasure. It’s a place I’m almost embarrassed to give four stars. It’s just BBQ. But it’s so tasty. The brisket is good. The rib tips are good. But the chopped pork is excellent. My favorite part? It’s not COMPLETELY drenched in BBQ sauce. Alton Brown once said that«BBQ sauce is what you put on bad BBQ» and I agree. The chopped pork is soft, juicy and full of flavor. I love it and I get it every time. That I’m proud to admit.

Very yummy BBQ served with a plastic fork and untoasted white bread. I got a plate of meat and I was satisfied.

Mmm BBQ. Who can complain? A coworker recommended we go here for lunch, so I couldn’t resist — and the smokers out front were a good sign. Nice that they have outdoor seating(although the end of a strip mall) to compensate for the bland interior. I tried pork — he had chicken. I went for the full spice — he opted for less. The meat was awesome — great spice with a kick. The bun, ok. I didn’t try the cornbread. Great place for lunch…

Good BBQ is hard to find in Seattle, and Jones fits the bill. Having had tons of BBQ in TX I’d give this place 4 stars on the BBQ, sides were about average 3 stars,(bread on sandwich was also a little stale, 2 stars) but no extra onions, pickles, sliced bread, etc. around that I saw that it would need for a higher rating. The biggest problems are the bad parking lot(no where to drive through or turn around) and the lady behind the register seemed really annoyed to be there today. Still worth stopping in if you’re in the area though.

We were on out way to Macrina but parking is terrible because of the games! We gave up and we just drove around and around to find a place to chow. We found this place… Their barbeque is really good but I usually I like mine dry. Jones’s is saucy. If you like a saucy barbeque, this is the place.(My favorite is Bamboo Grill at Alki). The server is also extremely friendly and helpful. We told her that it’s our first time and she gave us a brief and detailed explanation of their menu. Awesome. I don’t usually hang-out at SODO but this place is a wonderful find.

BBQ is a touchy subject. Dry rub, vinegary sauce, pork, beef, Texas style, Carolina style, what have you. In some parts of the south I am sure one can easily come to blows over BBQ. So far in the PNW I have liked this place the best. Anywho, this is unpretentious, Arkansaw style bbq. Good ribs, hotlinks. The brisket is okay but isn’t nearly as good as the ribs and links. Nice smokey flavor, not too saucy. And out of the I think 3 sites that Jones bbq has, the one located in SODO I think has the best product although the hours are geared more for the lunch time crowd. Hint: The actual smoke house is located here! come here and get porkified!

An unexpected turn out of the Home Depot and I see smoke… a delicious smoke coming out of two display grilles(I assume they are a display… even better if they actually use ‘em). All the classic choices: brisket, ribs, and hot pork sausage. The sides equally well played: coleslaw, baked beans, mac and cheese, macaroni salad, and potato salad. Moreover, the sauce is respectably flavorful. Then there is the stack of desserts from peach cobbler to pie… really there are solid choices. The meat is alright; I really enjoyed the brisket but have had better in the ribs department. I do love the attention to needed details from paper towels to wipe your hands, handy wipes, and honey packets. The lady behind the counter was pretty funny. She let us know that she as out of a few sides and was quick to explain that the rib sandwich is less sandwich and more a small serving of ribs, a side and some bread. This is an honest food spot. No messing around, copies of the Stranger, Mariner reruns on TV. I could see how for many this place quickly becomes a part of Seattle life, myself included.

Stuck in a bland industrial strip center in a homely generic section of SoDO, Jones original shines with outstanding BBQ smoked and served daily except Sundays. The beef brisket is never fatty, perfectly flavored and generous. I like the bean and crinkle cut fries as sides. Service is always friendly. IF these folks were in north Seattle you’d never get in. Fortunately, there’s rarely a wait.

I absolutely love BBQ, I could probably live on Jone’s BBQ rib tips and red wine alone. Sure I would probably die of clogged arteries or a heart attack, but I would have a huge red wine smile and a tummy full of pork yummie. They have pretty good lunch specials, and on Thursdays you can get a pound of rib tips for pretty cheap. The smell of the place is alluring enough to make you wanna stay and the staff is awesome, and friendly. I like their potato and macaroni salad and corn bread. MmMmm… must be time for lunch.

The work crew has been looking for some place different to have lunch in the Georgetown/SODO area because we have basically eaten at the majority of the establishments worth eating at in the area. It was time to find a place we haven’t been to and Jones BBQ fit the bill! A fellow co-worker suggested this place, but also warned that it has been a hit and miss the last few times he has been there. What kind of Unilocaler would I be if I passed up an opportunity to try a new place? Anyway, I’m glad that I had lunch here and will do so again(and again). I went with the rib tip lunch that included fries and cole slaw. There was no question that I would have hot bbq sauce which I found to be flavorful and quite hot/spicy. At $ 8.50, I won’t have lunch here every single day, but will do so on occasion that I find myself in the area. _________ | _____| | | | | | |____| | — — — HOT | | | | | | | | | | | | | |____| | — — — - MEDIUM | | | | | | | | | | | | | |____| | — — — – MILD | /\ | | | | | | \ _____/| | SPICE | | _SCALE__| HOT = Nowthat’swhatI’mtalkingabout! Oh. Ok. This is the place to get serious BBQ in town. That no one let me know sooner is a serious failing of my social structure. You are all fired. You will be replaced with new friends familiar with this venue. Tasty tender fatty brisket. Juicy chicken. Great cut meat. Awesome sauce(not to be confused with the awesomesauce adjective, so I guess that would be awesomesauce awesome sauce.)

Oh, how I love the corn bread. LOOOOOVEIT !!! This place has yummy noms. I loved the bbq sauce! I also love the coleslaw pretty hard because it didn’t have onions in it! I hate onions with the fiery passion of 10,000 suns! The pulled pork sandwich & the rib tips were quite lovely. Left super full & super happy! YUM.

Poop house. I do have highish standards for BBQ, but even without standards this place sucked. I got a beef brisket sandwich that was 90% fat. The potato salad was a dead ringer for the potato salad I bought two days before at safeway. Tasted like they doused everything in some generic, K. C Masterpiece type sauce. Nothing seemed homemade, very generic, bland and cheap, yet the food wasn’t cheap. Anyway, go to RoRo for something tasty, skip Jones.

«What the hell just happened» and«What, am I on candid camera» are two thoughts that I had after leaving Jones BBQ. It would take an invitation from the owner himself to bring me back in. Scroll to bottom for the quick review. Let Me Explain. — Long story but necessary, Unilocalers need to know. I have been there twice over the last year. The first time I felt the rib tips to be very, well dull/boring/mediocre even for Seattle. See, I grew up in the south, Georgia to be exact. I’m not a BBQ expert but have probably sat down to at least 1000BBQ meals in my lifetime. Enough to know when I have something good! Anyways, the second trip I stopped in for a quick sandwich. Walking in, two gentlemen were completing their order as I began to read the menu. I though quietly to myself, $ 9 bucks for a lunch special sandwich! I would pay about $ 5 in GA. Oh well, I’m hungry. The chaos began as I went to order. The two gentlemen in line before me noticed that the soda machine was not working correctly. I paid and quietly waited/watched as the scene escalated out of control. All could have been saved had the girl working the counter not be completely worthless. I’m sorry sweetie, I’m sure your really a nice girl with a great future before you but your going to have to hustle every now and then or life is going to kick your ass. She must be related or otherwise she would never have this job. Again, sorry. So I spend 30 minuets listening to the cook explain to someone on the cell phone that they had run out of soda. For some reason, the person on the other end just could not wrap their mind around the idea. However, I’m patient and forgiving so I end up politely asking for a sandwich update. The girl at the counter said that she must have called my number and someone else walked out with it. This would be a believable scenario had I not just been standing literally 3 feet from her, staring at her for the last 40 minuets; mind you the same 5 people who walked in after me were still there enjoying their meal. I’m thinking to myself«what the hell is going on». I repeated my order about 3 times, was served food and started me lunch. BREAKDOWN: By BBQ standards, The BBQ sucks. I’m sure they can cook up good BBQ but what they served me was lame. You will get more value buying the Lloyds BBQ at the grocery store. This is pressure cooked meat with Smokey BBQ sauce loaded on to give the impression of slow smoking.

Ooooooh man! I came in for lunch with a buddy the other day and felt like getting messy so I went ahead and ordered the rib tip basket. Damn I was glad I did, I dont think I said a word throughout the entire meal, only a few grunts of pleasure as I stuffed my face with these moist and delicious little treats. I was in hog heaven as I continued shoveling fries and coleslaw in my mouth. The bbq sauce is perfect when soaked up with their crispy crinkle cut fries. I really do love the sauce here, great sweet and heat, tasty molases flavor, I think I am going back today.
