I live on the same block as this business and see how busy they are … I wasn’t too hopeful they could squeeze us in same day when my car died. It’s a tough neighborhood for parking, and the business has no parking lot; not only did they accept my dead car towed to their driveway, but when the tow truck was two hours later than I told them, they still got my starter replacement done in just a few hours. Ken called to check in after diagnosis, made sure I knew about some unrelated issues that might need attention soon (came in for a starter they updated me on brake status) but no sales pressure. Blue was in dire need of an oil change and they fit that in too. In and out under 5 hours, $ 1 more than the LOWEST estimate that
gave for starter alone. This is a true family business. Kids and cousins of the namesake I gather. I must’ve spoken to 4 different individuals there but after one meeting they each knew which car was mine and what it needed.
Lastly … As a grown woman who’s owned a bunch o’ crappy cars I usually have a pretty good idea of what’s wrong with ‘em– it was refreshing to deal with a mechanic who didn’t talk down to me when I told him what I thought the problem was— clarifying questions were asked in a totally easy, respectful way.

I let my brake pads wear down too far and they started rubbing against the rotors. Over the weekend I tried to change the rotors and pads myself but I totally forgot I’ve been hitting the gym hard bro. The lower caliper bolt thought it was the sht, so with my new muscles, I tore that sucka in half with my bare hands (and a socket wrench). Too bad the other half was still stuck in the caliper… #gainz #keepinitreal
Anyways, I was referred to Lioe’s automotive on beacon and boy did I luck out! They were very accommodating and fit me in on Monday, drilled that fool out, replaced the pads and rotors, and was set ready to roll the same day. They helped show me a breakdown of all the costs and details of what they had to do.
I’m recommending Lioe’s with 5 stars for accommodation, clarity of work and cost, friendliness, and honesty.

I am very upset because not only do these people try and over charge you which is very dishonest but I paid for an hour for them diagnosis the check engine light and they couldn’t even get that correct. I took my car here and he told me it was a bad sensor which would cost $ 590 to repair I was like my car is a 2004 that is ridiculous I went right down the street same day spent an hour with someone else they turns out it was not even a sensor but a piece of bent metal under the sensor no charge I am sick I feel a little taken advantage of and will never be taking my car back here again. So beware!

Honesty should not be a rare quality in a mechanic but finding a good, honest mechanic can be so difficult. That is why I was so happy to find Lioe’s Automotive. I have been coming here for years but it only just occurred to me that I should probably write a good Unilocal review for them.
We have taken many of our cars to them over the years and they have always treated us well and fairly and it does not matter if we come in a shiny new car or an old beater we are always treated well. I hope they keep up their good standards as we need more mechanics like this.

I use them mostly for oil changes, but have had other work done here too. I love that I get a phone call on service and cost before I pick up the car, including options for potential followup services if warranted (like the time they called to let me know my washer fluid had a crack), and a rundown of services received when I pick it up. Staff is nice, they can usually fit me in short notice, and I can just drop off the car before I take the bus in to work — so convenient. Unlike my dealership, they don’t offer deals on oil changes etc, but the prices are fair and the convenience can’t be beat, so I’ll keep coming back!

It’s been ages since I walked away from auto repairs, feeling they didn’t ripped me off. It was front breaks– both rotor and pads, and window motor. They used legit break parts unlike past two different mechanics who told me to install high quality parts and ended up installing parts only last a year and half. Unfortunately, I’m from out of town and can go back there again for any future repairs…

This is a family-​run business. Frank, the owner, always makes sure you get the best deal he can give. You needn’t worry about being scammed at this place.

Mahalo for the awesome oil change service! Customer service here is stellar. I dropped off my car before work and it was ready by 11:00 (although I didn’t pick it up until after work). I appreciated the call before any work was performed to confirm oil preferences.

Lioe’s Automotive quoted me a service of up to $ 1,000 that I didn’t need. They told me it was essential in order for me to pass emissions and get new tabs, but I just got my emissions test and passed without their costly suggestion.
Edit: I went in twice, and paid over $ 200 combined just for checkups. Both times, I was told the same thing: Up to $ 1,000 in repairs. I have not had any work done on my car since I had it inspected here, but I still passed emissions despite the advice given to me here.

This place is fantastic! Extremely fast, good communications, very competent, and not pushy. Admittedly I’ve only gone here for flat tires and an oil change, but they had it done within 6 hours both times. I just drop it off on the way to work and hop right on the bus. Also a few times they noticed more work that could be done, and called me to describe it and give me the option without really trying to upsell me. I will always go here!

I have taken quite a few cars (Japanese and German) here over the years and can always rely on Ken and company for honest, quick and reasonably priced service. If you need a trustworthy mechanic/​shop (rare these days) on Beacon Hill, check them out.

I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. We’ve been customers since 2000 and they’ve never disappointed. They consistently over deliver and I completely trust them.

Honest, accommodating, trustworthy and unpretentious… rarely are those adjectives associated to a mechanic, but Lioe’s is a diamond in a field of coal. Did a fantastic job with my clutch replacement! My car limped in and purrred on the way out!

Lioe’s is just up the street from my house. Decided to try them out when the dealership wanted an absurd amount to replace my headlight. Lioe’s got me in the same afternoon and had it done within two hours!
I came to realize a few weeks later that they actually replaced the wrong light but brought the car back and they replaced the correct one for FREE in just an hour.
I will definitely be returning in the future!

I brought my car here for a suspension clunk diagnosis. They were busy so I left it overnight. Next day I got a call saying they «couldn’t find where the noise was coming from» (not that they couldn’t hear the noise) even though they «re-​torqued» everything to specs. They still managed to charge me $ 50 and told me to bring it to the dealership.
Brought it to Outback Automotive and it took them a 5 minute test drive and 1 minute on the rack to find the problem. They only charged me $ 20.
I expected better.
To Lioe’s: It was a white 2011 Subaru WRX brought in on the 11÷04÷13. Please look up the record! I would upload a picture of the receipt but I threw it away. We’re all adults here so I don’t think bad-​mouthing businesses is a moral thing to do. Just telling people my experience.

Adding a star.
Aside from the issue mentioned in the previous update, I have had nothing but good experiences at Lioe’s so it deserves its fourth star. I have come here a couple times since then for oil changes and car checks and everything went swimmingly.
The only reason why I don’t come here for all of my auto work is because I live on the Eastside. In some cases, I have to go to Firestone if I am in a pinch. But otherwise, I would get my car serviced at Lioe’s. They say that good mechanics are hard to find. So when you find one, you keep going to them. And that is what I do. I trust Lioe’s wholeheartedly with my car.

It pains me to say it. I tried calling in twice before bringing it in, to get an idea of when to drop off the truck first. We have two cars in our household between two of us who drive, so you understand why I would want to know if the truck needed to be there for a day or two. First, no one would return my messages, then when I did reach somebody live, they said just to bring it in and prepare to leave it for the day. No problem.
It didn’t get worked on that first day. And we didn’t get contacted about it. We had to call in to see what time we needed to pick it up, which is how we found out. So we left it for another day. We went in towards closing time the 2^nd day to pick it up… and it had not been worked on AGAIN.
Luckily, a nice man helped me and went to the street where the truck seemed to be permanently parked at, to see what was up. He recommended that the sparkplugs get done and some other work. Cool; thanks broseph (aka dude.) He said that the shop would need it for another day, but he would make sure to talk to the right people about it.
So, we left the car another day. (Dude was not working the next day.) [They] replaced the cap and rotor, but did not do the sparkplugs that our friend had recommended to them? Seems like they would have done that… I’ve worked in the auto industry, so I really understand how this auto service works and am an understanding person. I chalk this up to poor communication, and a lack of organization.
I would recommend my friends’ technical prowess, but as a shop, I would tell my friends to stay clear, unless ambiguity regarding when they need their car is okay with them.

Quite a few years have gone by and they’re still great. The next generation is more involved, but they still treat me well.
I like the small business feel and they treat you like a neighbor or relative.
