Metropolis

Metropolis is a great local shop right by my place that I enjoy visiting. I love that they are a UPS access point so I can easily pick up my packages. Sue, the owner, is so incredibly friendly and always goes above and beyond to help me. I am so thankful for her assistance and I will go to Metropolis as often as I can to support a great local spot with genuinely kind people. Thanks Metropolis!

Love this shop! I live in the Phinney neighborhood and stop in whenever I pass by to see what new and fun products are out. Lots of great gifts, beautiful cards, a small selection of unique baby clothes, great seasonal/​holiday decorations. Also, the balloons are really nice — higher quality than the ones from Freddies or other department stores. And, as others have noted, the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful — he even special ordered a product for me that he no longer had in stock. So nice.

Fantastic place. Wonderful selection of cards plus lots of other fun items too. «Vintage» candy is one of my favorite things about this store. You can find sweets from your childhood days. Also, Terry has a great selection of nifty gifts for all occasions. When it comes to holidays, a person can go wild with the seasonal selection. This is one of my favorite stores in the area. I moved away for a year and missed it terribly. I’m back now and so glad to have Metropolis back in my shopping radius!

I have been purchasing gifts and cards from Metropolis for over 20 years! Whenever I need a card or birthday gift, I make it my first (and usually last) stop. I hope that the owners have a «succession plan» for when they retire.

Metropolis has been my go to card store forever. They have a wonderful selection I gift wrap, ribbons, cards and other small gift items.
The store is laid out beautifully and is paired with a flower shop next door which can be handy. They also carry many different types of balloons.
Staff is always friendly, helpful and patient.

Metropolis is a great little gift shop, if I ever need a card, I always go here. They have a good and unique variety. It’s a tad pricy but the people who work there are always nice and they have a nice selection of gifts as well. Definitely recommend this place.

If you are in a pinch and looking for a fun and creative gift for anyone this is your place! They have a great selection of cards, home décor gifts and some pretty funny novelty type items great to get a good laugh from your friends or co-​workers… like bacon band-​aids! The people that work there are very friendly and can help you come up with something for any occasion. They also provide balloons and helium service so if you’re around Phinney Ridge or greenwood make sure you check this place out!

My husband and I have thing where we only buy each other cards with Monkeys on them. This is the only card store I go to that has enough of a selection and new merchandise that I can always find a unique one that I haven’t used before even after almost a decade.

Metropolis is the quintessential great neighborhood store. I always find the perfect gift for whoever I’m looking for, and a great card to match! It’s a little pricey, but it’s worth it for the friendly service and great quality of goods.

When I lived in Greenwood, I was a frequent visitor to Metropolis. Now that I live in the other end of the city, I do not get to go too often. But, I am always happy when I do have the chance to go back.
– They have an awesome collection of cards that are creative, witty and generally a step above what is available elsewhere.
– They have a great assortment of «stuff» — candles, soaps, decorative housewares, etc.
– They have stickers! Let’s face it; you’re never too old for stickers. (Truthfully, they are one of the few places left (of which I am aware) that have rolls of stickers, so you can buy just one or two to meet your needs. I still like to seal envelopes with a «Happy Birthday» sticker or just a silly picture or just whatever seems to fit the occasion.)
– They have an amazingly friendly staff, who always make you feel welcome and appreciated.
This is definitely one of the best card stores in Seattle!

I go out of my way to purchase cards at this store. The owner and all other staffers are lovely people, kind and friendly – for-​real friendly, not sell-​stuff friendly. Beautiful items in a range of prices, unique cards, pretty housewares.
DO bring your kids here. The mom in the list who complained that her kid got yelled at – well, remember this is Phinney Ridge, where if you so much as frown at a child you’ll be chastised. (And this is spoken as a parent on this hill.) I’ve brought my kid to this store for years and never had any issues, my child has in fact been welcomed here.
Not only that, but Metropolis leads right into a children’s consignment store right next door, so clearly the staff expect children to show up!

I have shopped her for 15 years and love this store. The store owner is fabulous and helpful. He really seems to care about his customers! There is always a unique selection of cards and gifts available and they also offer balloon service. In the last few years there have been furniture items added to the store and they offer a punch card that when full gives you 20% off your next purchase. I always love to support local businesses and would highly recommend this shop. Warning, I do tend to get into trouble finding too many great gift items.:)

A colleague and I went in to pick up some ribbon one lovely day this week, and were pleased to meet the proprietor. He was awesome and helpful to us, and had a very lovely selection of ribbon.
The store is a great place for little gifts, cards and wrapping. It’s a great little neighborhood shop that I recommend.

Great neighborhood shop. 4-​stars because I wish things were a tad cheaper for my limited budget.
They have the cutest selections of candles, cards, home items, gift items, gift wrap supplies, cards, etc. etc. I love just browsing around to see what new items they get. It always smells so good in there, it is hard to resist buying another scent for my place. Everyone that I’ve interacted with that works there has been nothing but friendly. They know many of their regular customers by name which I love in a store.
Great merchandise, great service, great atmosphere! It seems that great would be the word to sum up Metropolis!

Metropolis is a terrific neighborhood card shop. Actually, I don’t even live in the neighborhood anymore, but I come back to stock up on cards, or to look for nice gift ideas. Year after year, Metropolis is a great place to shop.
I find the displays in the store to be well put together, and the selection of cards and gifts (picture frames, soaps, candles, calendars, novelty items) to be great. Their new location actually seems to have a bit more space than the old one, so I find I spend some more time when I stop in.
The service is reliably friendly and helpful. Both the owner and the employees are reason enough to shop here. I find the old 2007 review about rude service to be hard to believe, though it is true that they have some nicer items, so it may not be the best place to let your children play around unsupervised. My interactions, and those that I’ve had many occasion to observe between the owner, employees, customers, and children have always been friendly, helpful, and professional.
My only suggestions would be for longer hours, and an even more expanded greeting card selection.
Tip: regular shoppers can use a punch card, which when filled, allows them to get a significant discount on a future purchase.

Itis always do much fun to go in here.
I always leave with something for one thing or another.
Cards, low cost favors, little gifts.
I have appreciated the staff with whom I have met and conversed many occasions.

Very nice and friendly — a big plus with soulless national chains and mail stores. Funky selection of buttons and magnets, pop-​up greeting cards are a must. Goofy-​friendly. Artsy, with plenty of fun when you’re planning a theme party (tiki?).
