This is my home, my church, my school and my family. This is the best place to grow as a mind, as a body and as a soul. But it’s not for the lazy or complacent. This is a Hung Gar school… Southern Shaolin. And for anyone who doesn’t know, Hung Gar is one of the most physical, as well as one of the oldest, arts in the world. Sifu David Leong is the Master. And as the Sifu(master), he teaches his students. Many schools have a master that’s never there and leaves his class to learn from his Sihing(second in command). Sifu David Leong is there nearly every night. In eight months, he only missed one or two classes because of emergencies at work. He is as meticulous as he is traditional. Strict adherence to tradition makes this school what it is. Most nights I would go to class filled with equal parts excitement and dread at the upcoming physical trials. But after only a few months, I was stronger in form and physique than I had ever been in my life. This school means more to me than anywhere in the world. It will always be my home. For those of you looking to start a long journey toward the insurmountable goal of perfection, this is where the mountain starts.

I’ve tried out several different martial arts classes in the past, and have never really found out that I found comfortable until this one. A combination of my liking kung fu with the format of the way the class is taught, I like this place the most out of what I’ve seen in Seattle. David Leong is an excellent teacher and is able to give everyone individual attention, from the beginners like me to the best in the class, without sacrificing anything in the class. I’ve tried out one aikido place and one other kung fu place in Seattle — and they were both taught in a less effective manner.
