St Vincent De Paul Thrift Stores

I had not been in to the store for a year or so. Even though I always liked it, I don’t live nearby. This week I was looking for a hard to find item so I went in. WOW!!! OMGoodness!!! If you haven’t been in lately, go have a look. The store has been transformed! Always liked the selection and the staff, but the store was unorganized and kind of funky. It is now a gem in the crown of local thrift stores. So neat and clean and organized and the prices are great! I was told they had a new manager — congratulations — this «redo» is a job well done!

I am a senior citizen who is on a limited income and when you are of a limited income you cannot spend a lot of money on clothes or books. This place is fantastic. I brought a great deal of clothes from there and i have not returned them once. I also brought books and they are fantastic. The section of books isnt that big… but they have books there that i havent heard of and I got Zolars book of numbers and dreams there and that book happens to be out of print. The furniture is also very, very good and the prices there are so reasonable. If you need any dishes or such… this is the place to go and you will be pleased with the prices… and the staff is very nice and
has got some treasures. Take it from a cranky senior citizen. go and shop at this Thrift Store! I am going to give it 11 hats… thats the highest hats and you will find my ratings are fair and reasonable. Go!Way to go St. Vincent De Paul!

Regarding their return policy.
I think it is primarily for clothing returns and certain color tags but you have 7 days to return it for store credit. The store credit doesn’t seem to expire (I had mine from October) and you can certainly keep coming back until the credit is used up!
The only sticky part is what qualifies as clothes. I had returned some boots, which I had bought because I figured they count as clothes, since belts and things are considered accessories. Fortunately they did count the boots as returnable but just be careful what you consider appropriate for a return. Otherwise, using the credit each time (requires manager) was easy.
Folks are nice. They usually have really AWESOME music and I leave with at least 1 or 2 new finds for really cheap!

Was looking for a few things today as my daughter is in a school play and needed some costume attire. I didn’t find anything she needed, but I did find a photo album with pics. I wanted to buy it (as it was on the shelf) and for sale. BUT there was no price. I asked the cashier who said sorry no price, not for sale. End if conversation. Really? No way to look up a price? Talk to a manager? I will never go back. It’s a dump.

Recently remodeled… still a dump!

I’m not sure if it was because of the construction but there was hardly anything besides clothes there. I’ll try and go back once their construction is done to update the review but honestly… if you’re not looking for clothes don’t go there now.

Well, this is a mixed bag.
The staff are usually nice, the selection is random but usually reasonably priced and while the organization could use some help, there is treasure here.
I don’t head in too often, but their über convenient hours do make it easy to do so.
If you’re out thrifting, I’d say this is worth a stop for housewares/​furniture but clothing is hit or miss.

I try to support St. Vincent De Paul since it’s a neighborhood store that employs a lot of good people. There are also a lot of people who volunteer there. I have to say that each time I go there, the staff is very friendly. I have observed numerous encounters that would have tried my patience and each staff member has dealt with it gracefully, utilizing impressive levels of customer service.
Different thrift stores have different strengths. I don’t find this a very good location for children’s clothes or accessories. As some have noted, it’s a small place. Also, thrift stores are often subject to who donates and who buys so inventory is a difficult thing to project.
One of the things I love about this store is the fence in the back that is made of skis. I thought it was a creative use of them since they likely have accumulated quite a few over the years.
As others have noted, the prices can be a little high. I must admit that sometimes I’m willing to pay the higher prices because I’m often in thrift stores looking for something in particular and quite frankly, I get exhausted from all the hunting. A few weeks ago, I was looking for a lamp and a standing lamp, nothing special, was $ 20. A little pricey. If it were the right piece I was looking for, I would have bought it. I was feeling particularly energetic that day and got a lamp at Goodwill for $ 7.99.
In terms of kitchen wares, it’s hit and miss. As others have noted, some things could be perceived as junk but I’m not too hip on that perspective. One person’s junk is another’s treasure.
I dislike the parking situation in the front. It’s angled parking, which sometimes people don’t follow. Parking is not a problem. Reversing back on Aurora Avenue is the hard part. TIP: There is both parking on the north side of the building and in the back of the building where they accept donations and have a small lot.

this place is a very small thrift store. it has more junk than clothes .
I mainly come to this place to hunt vintage shirts and dresses but ended up buying only one because it’s so overprice. an old shirt for 6 – 7 bucks. we have the same store in my city and these only costs 2 bucks at most .
oh, there is a horrible smell in this place. plus I almost got stung by some weird bugs … this place need some serious changes

Stopped by after a long absence. Alot of over priced junk and a larger than average contingent of crazy people in and near the store.
It fits in well with the ‘ambiance” of Aurora Avenue.

They have a great book selection; vintage, contemporary, childrens: all for a super cheap prices!!! Tons of VHS! They keep low prices an I always leave with tons of stuff. My favorite place!

I’ve been in here about 10 times over the last few years & while I may find something every now & then it is a small, crowded, poorly organized thrift store. Yes their prices may be cheaper than Value Village, but I’ll stick with a clean, bright store with dressing rooms & a parking lot that I feel safe in. Last time I was here the cashier had a bad cold & was coughing & sneezing all over the place.

I love thrifting and St. Vincent’s De Paul’s aren’t usually my favorite store, but this has something special about it.
The store is disorganized, but not in a bad way (if that makes any sense). It feels more like a garage sale, so when I find something it feels like I’ve struck gold.
Recently it seems like they’ve been getting some donations from some retail stores so you’ll see the same style of coat ten times over and priced for about what it must have been on clearance at the original store. But I just pass these over, because dishwares is where my heart belongs.

Gross. Smelly area and space.
The deals may be ok if you get past the aura.

They seem to have gotten new management recently because the place is rearranged and remodeled — and it looks good! Some of their prices can be a little high for thrift store level — but they often have 50% off days on the entire store.
They also have a HUGE book room — that you could spend hours looking around in if you are a book lover.

How Rude.
Stopped by on a Sunday evening because I was early for a movie. It was 5:40, the sign said open until 6:00 on Sundays. At 5:45 they made an announcement that they close «promptly at 6 pm» and told customers to bring their items to the register. I kept looking around… hey, I figured if I found something I loved they’d still ring me up before 6 pm, or I could come back the next day. Boy was I wrong!
At 5:53 a man walked within 2 feet of me and (no joke) snorted, turned to the woman at the register, and said «give last call… PLEASE.» that last word directed right at me.
At that point I left.

You down wit’ SV (de) P? Well, you probably know me then.
Full disclaimer: I’m a thrift store plunderer from WAY back, so things like creepy customers, unpleasant smells, suspicious stains on items for sale, and the pizazz of hearing folks talk about parole violations as I shop are par for the course. C’est la vie! These are usually the signs that you have found a REAL thrift store, not one of these upstarts like Value Village (love ya, man, but you all high class now).
I have consistently found buried treasures here for the past 5 years… and the days when the angels sing and everything is half off usually provide me with a bounty of decent clothing, knickknacks and craft supplies.
There have been some rough patches, of course. Yeah, the dressing rooms being temporarily unavailable sucked, but… um…the real reason the room got shut down was because somebody went potty in there… so I was cool with not trying on my potential purchases for a while, as long as it got cleaned up!
To address the shopliftng issue: it does happen regularly (I saw a guy walk out wearing a Volcom jacket right off the rack, and yes I did rat him out!)
They have now barricaded the aisles in a very claustrophobia-​inducing way to prevent clear access to the exits, and it can make for some comic moments when 3 or 4 people get bottlenecked in a row unexpectedly blocked by a dresser or stack of large, heavy boxes.
But hey, it’s all part of the fun!
I will continue to scour the crazy-​packed racks until they hike those prices or shut the doors (perish the thought!).

I’ve only been here once, but my best find that day: an awesome 1960s retro desk in really good shape except for the small missing piece of veneer in one corner: 2.50! You can’t do better than that at a garage sale. I went on a Sunday, and I’m not sure how this normally works, but they had a 75% off sale for everything with a particular color price sticker on it. I lucked out with that desk and lots of kitchenware (I was moving into a new apartment recently).
Some things were reasonably price (kitchenware, etc), but some of the clothing and textiles seemed a little steep for a thrift store. Shop and around though and you never know what you’ll find. I would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Thanks to some very low jackasses who shoplifted here, this thrift shop no longer lets you use the dressing room to try on clothing. And there’s no way I’m going to buy something without trying it on… but i’m NOT doing it in front of everyone! So i don’t come here anymore, except for purses (i’ve found some good designer stuff on lucky days).
Seriously. WHO JACKS SECOND HAND CLOTHING. God have mercy on this pitiful planet…

When I moved, I was hoping to find a good thrift store in my neighborhood, because there are some very important things you can do at thrift stores: you can get rid of your crap guiltlessly (so you can buy more), you can buy raw materials for your awesome Halloween costume, and so much more! So I am happy to announce that St. Vincent De Paul’s thrift store meets my expectations.
The store is fairly big and is divided up by department. It seems pretty clean and non-​smelly in there, which is always a plus when pawing through racks of used clothes. In addition to apparel, there’s a smallish home furnishings section (though they don’t have a lot of furniture), but the kids’ section is pretty small and doesn’t have much in the way of toys or games.
However, their book nook is excellent, and is the main reason I will go back again. They have them nicely separated by hardcover and paperback, and the selection is really impressive, the best I’ve seen at a thrift store yet. Hardcovers are $ 2, trade paperbacks are $ 1.49, and paperbacks are even less than that. This week, they had multiple copies of books like The Corrections and The Lovely Bones, plus Oprah’s Book Club selections and other current books. I got two books for under $ 3!
They also take donations via the back entrance (if you know what I mean). It seems like what they’ll accept depends on their current needs — the day I went, I had a bag of old blankets, which they were willing to take. You may want to call beforehand if you’re loading up your car with a ton of junk for them… or head down the street a ways to Thriftko to donate whatever St. Vincent’s won’t take.
Clean, well-​organized, and offering friendly and helpful service, St. Vincent De Paul’s is everything a thrift store should be — and I still can’t get over their great used book section. I’m definitely going back soon to check on new arrivals!
